Klaus-Dieter Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 (edited) Hello everybody! The last two days I tried to design a Western farm with the new LDD. Here is the outcome: Western Farm Welcome to the Western Farm! There is a lot to do: Looking after the cattles, watering the plants and having a ride to the next town to buy some things you need. After work you can sit inside your comforatble living room in front of the chimney and later go to bed. This set includes a big farm building with living room and sleeping room, a stable, a windmill, two cattles, a horse, a dog, the farmer, his wife, his son, a farm hand and a lot of accessory. The roof and the upper floor oft he building can be easily taken away for better playability. Some more pics can be found in this folder (when public) of my BS gallery. Comments are welcome! the Inventor Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 A great western building , which would fit easily in a western town, I really like your Farm Building with a nice interior too. And also a nice windmill and a small stable. A shame LDD hasn't the right animals otherwise it would be perfect. the Inventor Quote
Athos Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 It looks like it would be more at home in town than on a farm. I also think the facade is a bit too tall. Other than that, the house looks really nice. I also like the windmill (I've been reading the Grapes of Wrath and that mill looks like it would fit in perfectly). I'm not sure I like the gaps under the plate roofs, but that can be easily fixed with some slopes. Steve Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Very nice KD. This is a very interesting creation. First, I really like the tall windmill. To me, it looks like some sort of machine for oil drilling, rather than a traditional windmill. I would almost recommend removing the windmill section, but it looks good, esp. in brown. Secondly, the building is a nice farm house, although I'm not too sure about the tall roof design (definately a European-influenced roof). I think a lower/boxier type roof would be a little more western. The colors look great though, and I really like the chimney section. The additional details like the bed are "top notch". I always like your interior additions KD, something that I don't spend a lot of time on myself. The little stall works well, and I like the use of tan and black, reminding me a bit of LEGO's Farm set. Lastly, the additional details like the corn stalks look fantastic. Great design (although I'd love to see a scarecrow in the spirit of the Fall season). Oh, and I like the small water pump (which I just noticed). Nice! You're very good at these LDD models KD, and your ability has improved greatly from when you first shared some of your early design. Great job! Quote
ziljin Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 How does the slanted awning/roof work? click hinge with plates? Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Very cool design. What blue is the main building? Quote

And I really do agree with you: It's really a pity that LDD doesn't offer at least some horses. Plus more different torsos for the minifigures would be needed. It looks like it would be more at home in town than on a farm. I also think the facade is a bit too tall. Other than that, the house looks really nice. I also like the windmill (I've been reading the Grapes of Wrath and that mill looks like it would fit in perfectly). Thanks, Steve! You're right about the storefront of the farm building: it could very well be located in a town, too. But I simply thought that to have a Western building which is not always only white, tan or brown would be a variety. First, I really like the tall windmill. To me, it looks like some sort of machine for oil drilling, rather than a traditional windmill. I would almost recommend removing the windmill section, but it looks good, esp. in brown.Secondly, the building is a nice farm house, although I'm not too sure about the tall roof design (definately a European-influenced roof). I already thought, too, that the windmill looks more than a machine for oil drilling and so wanted firstly to remove the round connector (from the wings upside to the ground) but it did imo not look that good - a bit empty. You're supposably right about the not that right architectual style of the roof of the farm house - but I simply wanted to have a bit more variety in color and desgin (and TLG does btw not always design everything completely realistic, too). I indeed took the stall from the Farm set as archetype since I did not really know how to build it. It doesn't look that awesome but it's ok I think. I'm glad to hear that you like the interior! The idea of adding a scarecrow to the field is great! How does the slanted awning/roof work? click hinge with plates? Yes, exactly that way, lego40k. You take one thin 1x2 with two hinges and one thin 1x2 on which you can clip it. On top of one of them there you add a regular thin 1x2 - and on it the white plate. Very cool design. What blue is the main building? Thanks, Commodore Hornbricker! It is the regular blue (not light blue and not dark blue). Klaus-Dieter Edited October 16, 2009 by Klaus-Dieter Quote

Captain Genaro Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 I have not seen a western anything in a long time. Great job. I really love the corn outside of the building. Quote

I really love the corn outside of the building. Thanks, Captain Genaro. I thought that the corn would make it looking more realistic plus being some accessory. Klaus-Dieter Quote
Legostein Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Hello! A really decent layout! Quite some western feelings come up when looking at this. As a minor suggestion, I would get rid of that needle tree. They're so rarely found in deserts. Maybe replace it by some bush? Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote

You're absolutely right about the needle tree - the only problem is that LDD regrettably doesn't offer a bush (like it does not offer a fruit tree). Klaus-Dieter Quote
Milan Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Ah, the Western. I miss it somehow. This is a nice creation. Like it! Quote
starwarsfanatic Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 This is a good MOC but the bed seems like it would be at home in a Town MOC as opposed to a Western one. But based on your avatar you seem to be a more avid Western fan than I, so who am I to complain. Look into it though. Excellent! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted January 6, 2010 Author Posted January 6, 2010 Ah, the Western. I miss it somehow. This is a nice creation. Like it! Thanks, Milan. Yes, I miss it very much, too. But there's still hoping for 2011 or at the latest 2012. This is a good MOC but the bed seems like it would be at home in a Town MOC as opposed to a Western one. But based on your avatar you seem to be a more avid Western fan than I, so who am I to complain. Look into it though. Excellent! Thanks, starwarsfanatic. I didn't think much about how to build the bed. I simply looked at the one included in 10193 and built the one included in this my MOC similar to this design. Klaus-Dieter Quote
