Fredster wozere Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 My PTV II small entry. Lets face it-when you're fighting all day long for years in end you usually don't get a chance to find nor use those services all men need. So when the war finally ended, Private Donnel intended to blow all his loot wisely... Overall: Lower random angle shot: I am aware of the "no computer entry" rule thing, but I did not want to perhaps ruin a perfectly good tile so I wrote on the word in photoshop. That's okay I hope? Enjoy and as always I am wanting of criticism and whatnot. Quote
Tereglith Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 O_0 o_O Err...interesting... entry, to say the least Eh ehm. Well, for what it is you've executed it very well. The path looks great, and I love how there's a subtle slope to the ground. I know that many members don't like the use of large flowers, but I don't mind them. The soldier certainly looks happy about his destination, but I would definitely change his outfit to a regular soldier's outfit (either red or blue, depending on what you want to say about which side), and since many of the classic pirates fans are self-proclaimed "minifig racists" (just look at the "classic pirates or POTC" poll), I would also change his face and hands. In other words, the entry's great, but the figure doesn't fit. If you're using him for lack of a soldier, run out to the store an buy a cannon battle. Costs as much as a McDonald's lunch, and you'll get a good "oh boy, I'm gonna have some fun tonight!" face with it for the soldier. Quote
badboytje88 Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I like this idea! I am one of the persons who doesn't like the big flowers! But It's your MOC so it's your call. The only thing i think really neads help is the minifig. I like the fact that you used a flesh fig. And the face is perfect for a pirate. I really like the outfit. It's really colorfull. But doesn't look piraty... A peg leg, hook or a pirate hat would improve the fig a lot! Good luck in the competition! Quote
martinsuper Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I really enjoy the different looking minifig, but I think that his pants need to be white or another color because he has too many bright colors going on. The sign is funny and enjoyable except that most soldiers knew the brothels from word of mouth. Or often they were called Saloons. Maybe change the sign? I do enjoy how you used photoshop for creating it, it looks really good! Maybe make the "path" a little wider so that its more defined? Or even make it go through the middle instead of at an angle? Good job, -martinsuper Quote
Fredster wozere Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm gonna change the soldier to a normal redcoat or something when I build next and make the path slightly wider in places, and get rid of some of those silly flowers. I was trying to create the atmosphere of an actual kind of "paradise" as it were with all the bright colors but you're the people who are voting for it so it looks like they're going :p Thanks and whatnot, it's appreciated! Commodore Hornbricker Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 Good idea and great small entry. I really like the little slope you have created. I think that provides a lot of visual interest right away. I am not a huge fan of the big flowers either but they look OK here. You might see what it looks like with one fewer in the back corner. The one thing that is bothering me about this creation is the sign. I think the tile is too long. The whole sign looks disproportionate to me. Maybe you could use a 1 x 4 tile as the arrow doesn't need to be that long or you might try to see what the sign pole looks like when built out of a few 1 x 1 rounds that way the post has a greater diameter in relation to the sign. You could also lower it a brick and see how that looks. It might also be funny to see how it looks with a little treasure spilling out of his barrell as he rolls it. That would further imply that he is in such a hurry to get there he is going a little too fast and he doesn't seem to care if he losses a little treasure along the way. Quote
MetroiD Posted October 18, 2009 Posted October 18, 2009 Commodore Hornbricker's idea about having a bit of the treasure spill out is very nice indeed and would add a lot to this small entry. I must however ask - what is that gold plate he's carrying in his left hand anyway!? Is it a part of his treasure? If so - where did he get his hands on a gold dinnerware set and why did he ever keep it?! I agree with everything that's been said about the sign and the flowers. I myself am a fan of big flowers, but on such a small scale they just don't feel right. As to the minifig - unlike the other guys, I feel it fits in perfectly - especially the facial expression. Perhaps adding a more classic soldier's torso would work just fine there, instead of changing the entire minifig. However, at the end of the day it's your call. Whatever you do, just don't change that sloped little cobblestone path! Quote
