trubal Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) Hi! I always wanted to make a ship, finally I started the build. As i dont have enough midsections yet I do it from the aft section. The rear wall and the captains cabin are something i can make just now with my number of bricks available. I must say that the CREDIT goes to cpt. Blackmoore, as Le Fourageux is a great inspiration for me. As for the name it's completely MOC :P as Polish navy was almost never too big or succesful (except the battle near Oliva of course). Jan Kazimierz (Johannes Casimirus in latin) Was a Polish King during Swedish Deluge, an invasion on Poland which took place in XVII century. Jan Kazimierz had to flee the Country to Silesia, but after a while when Swedish took more than they could hold he was able to return and liberate Poland and bring peace to the galaxy... erm... Poland with signing Oliva Pakt in 3 may 1660. Comment Please! :) I have made some hanges, and I think it looks better. I may even leave the black-yellow-white colours be. What do you think? First Update: only one picture now: Oh, and I think i will change the red windows into white ones to match the details, what do you think? Edit2: And i'm thinking about changing the colour scheme completely so She doesn't look like Blackmoores ships Edited October 6, 2009 by trubal Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Nice name Great to see inspiration of my good friend in other ship MOC's. I like Blackmoors ships a lot as well, so if it's going to look similar to his ship I'm sure that Im going to like it The stern looks promising so I'm looking forward to the next step of the progress. But be aware, Blackmoor's ships are very big, expensive and time consuming, so you'd better know what you start with Good luck! (and also great there is going to be a Polish ship, I think it's the first) Quote
Admiral Ron Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Wow that is a great stern gallery! I am now inspired to use the 1x1 rounds to help decorate my vessel! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I love to see I've inspired some people! Thanks! As the good Admiral Croissant already said those kind of ships take a lot of time and money, but it has a very nice result. So far the stern looks good! I also use wrong colours during the build so I know what I need to order. It's not a tough job to replace the wrong colours. I must say the white details on the yellow works quite well. You've made me very curious, and I will follow her progress very closely to see how it turns out. Good luck! Oh and before I forget, an update on the Fourageux is coming soon. Quote
trubal Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) Thx for the replies :) I hope you will like the changes i made, as shown in first post EDIT: And i don't even hope to finish it this year, though I'm not sure how big will it be yet. I was hoping to make it with 5middle sections, but may even use 4, or try harder and use 7 :) I'm not in a hurry, so... EDIT2: Which windows would be better? those normal red ones, or those chequered yellow? Edited October 6, 2009 by trubal Quote
trubal Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 I added some interior to captains cabin. Here are the photos: And the officers crew: Quote
curtisrlee Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) I think i asw beer behind two of the pictures Nice Ship Cabin! Edit: and Marion too! Edited October 6, 2009 by curtisrlee Quote
Admiral Ron Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Wow! that is some beautiful furniture, and it is pretty cool that it has enough room to hold all that furniture. Quote
General Armendariz Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Nice so far, great furniture designs. If you could, why dont you tile it. Quote
Captain Genaro Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 (edited) So far, I like it. I must say that some of the shelfs look a little modern but that could just be me. I think that this will be a nice ship when its all done. Glad to see Poland has a ship. Edited October 7, 2009 by Captain Genaro Quote
trubal Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 (edited) Luckily the furniture is the least of problems concerning this WIP. I have a few questions: 1)Should I push the lower part of the stern one brick back, so it would be like the upper part? 2)Maybe make the walls vertical, so it would be easier to make the sides of cabins? I'm not sure I will be able to make them slope... 3)Should the cabins be directly above the steering something:P or even more behind it? 4)And i'm thinking of removing the fence and the balcony in front of lower cabin, tho i would have to make more deorative elements lower Of course I'm talking about the most recent photo: Edited October 7, 2009 by trubal Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 To answer your questions (as long as I can answer them) 1)Should I push the lower part of the stern one brick back, so it would be like the upper part? I wouldn't do that, That makes it look a bit strange and boxy, I like the lowest part more, with the black arch as 1 part with the sides. 2)Maybe make the walls vertical, so it would be easier to make the sides of cabins? I'm not sure I will be able to make them slope... If you manage to, you should really do that! It adds a lot of realism to the ship. 3)Should the cabins be directly above the steering something:P or even more behind it? I think I don't really get this question, but this is about where the rudder should be: 4)And i'm thinking of removing the fence and the balcony in front of lower cabin, tho i would have to make more deorative elements lower I think removing the fence will make it look better, but ofcourse it's your own decision. That was it, I hope it will help you a little bit. (btw, I also liked your furniture a lot, I might steal some of your ideas ) Quote
trubal Posted October 7, 2009 Author Posted October 7, 2009 (edited) I don't know if any of them were mine, i think i saw them somewhere, but i wont remember where. Thanx for the tips tho and that great photo, that was exactly what i was looking for :) Edit: Some new photos. I don't think if that's any good... Edited October 7, 2009 by trubal Quote
Admiral Ron Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 You are too modest, that looks great in my opinion! The only thing i would change is the corner rails on the bottom one to curved rails that look like all the other ones, other than that good job! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Till now the ship is progressing very nicely. But! I think you're building too high! Now it doesn't look that bad, but you'll get into trouble once you reach the tumblehome. Remember the ship gets even wider in the middle, your stern is already extremely high and wide. I'm afraid the middle of the ship doesn't fit on the prefab hulls causing the ship looks like a cigar. (CGH's quote. ) The higher cabins, the higher the gundecks are. Here's my stern, an update will come soon once my PTV entries are done. I've experienced this height of the stern is the maximum to get a smooth tumblehome. The connection between the galleries and the gundecks + tumblehome is the most difficult thing I've ever build so far. Good luck with it! Quote
trubal Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 So, You think I should get rid of some of those inverted slopes right? Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Exactly, but not every slope of course. Just make the big line of slopes smaller. Perhaps you could make some details in there as well. Any plans for the tumblehome already? Quote
martinsuper Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I think I saw a blackcoat in there. If there are blackcoats than this is a totally awesome MOC despite what it turns out looking like! But one a serious not. I love the cabin and the aft, but I think the rest of the ship will have to be rather large and hefty to support that. Just a thought. -martinsuper Quote
trubal Posted October 21, 2009 Author Posted October 21, 2009 Yeah, I'm planning to make it quite big, and hope i will be able to :) I'm not yet sure which faction will it belong to, most likely it will be redcoats, due to the number of them in my collection, and due to my sigfigs colours :) I was thinking also of making blue pirate torsos as the crew, they look nice and I have loads of them. I hope I'll be able to make her with at least two gun decks and 3 masts. Because of some perturbations in my work i had no time to do anything, and its hidden until completion :) I was thinking of making a diorama as cpt. Blackmoore did but it will have to wait at least a week from now to be done. Anyway I can't do anything before i get more middle-sections as I have only one now... I'm also trying to get some brown bricks but i may as well use black which are cheaper and easier to find. I'm also thinking hard about technique to use building the walls of captains and admirals cabins as they should lean inward a bit. Normal hinges maybe? Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I've made the cabin walls straight, with toilet spaces at the sides. These walls lean inside. Hope that helps. Quote
trubal Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Yeah, but the problem is with the sides, not the rear :) As you could see on last picture, the lower cabin has vertical, straight walls, but higher is a little slopy. How to make those side walls slopy so that it would look nice? Ill try to make a photo of what im thinking of, so you could see it... Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Tumblehome on the side of the cabin? Quote
trubal Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 I'm not a marinist in English, but i think that is correct :) Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 The galleries I understand. A hard part to build, at least with this style of shipbuilding. I'd say give it a go and try different things with hinges and so on. Make sure you check out some pictures of ships so you know how they look like. Then figure out which bricks you need and watch the connection between the galleries and the tumblehome. That's the most difficult part. Good luck with it! Let me know if you need any help. Quote
Admiral Croissant Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 http://www.purgit.com/dictiona.html Might be useful if you try to explain something next time Quote
