Legoliner Pilot Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 (edited) Hi Eurobricks guys and gals! Today I saw a TRU ad in my local newspaper stating that all LEGO sets that they have were either on sale or 30% off. My question is, now that the price is knocked off a bit, is it worth it? I mean 600 pieces is really expensive for $89.99! Legoliner Pilot P.S.- I just saw that I'm a "citizen" now. Yay! Edited October 4, 2009 by Legoliner Pilot Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 I paid full price and absolutely love the set. Original price is high, but it's a great set. The cows, the tractor, the red-roofed barn, working grain silo - packed with fun things. You can check out the review HERE. I would definately buy on sale. Plus, with the pig pen set coming out - it's a must have. Quote

It has some nice photo-editing talent. Do you use Photoshop or GIMP 2? I am also getting this set for the variety of animals. You get two cows, dog, mouse, and a cat! Never before have I seen this much variety of animals in a single set. I'm also buying it promptly because I'm afraid TLC might stop production of this set, which would be horrible considering it is the best farm series set out of all of them. Captain Genaro Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 I have this set and it is a great adddition to any country farmland. It is expensive but if it is 30% off, I would say get it. It has lots of nice animals, the tractor and the building its self is nice Quote
UsernameMDM Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 It would be cool to have, but my Castle collection takes up too much space as is. Poor Power Miners are relegated to a small corner of a shelf. I do like the cows in the set though and will one day have to nab a few of them. Quote
Legoist Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I think this set is very good for the vehicles, the minifigs, the animals and all the accessories, but it's very poor for the buildings and their bricks. It's way too fast and simple to build, and it's got too large parts for the walls and the roofs. It's probably ok to buy on 30% sale. But if you only want the animals, you can be sure this isn't going to be the last set with cows... Now that they designed cows and pigs and purchased the molds for them, it's quite likely that we'll see them produced for many years. Horses have now been produced for about 25 years! Quote
David Thomsen Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I was not all that impressed with the buildings... the barn for example has no walls at all. I realise it would be very expensive to supply enough bricks for an entire barn, but four pillars? They could have done better. However, since it's a large city set that isn't a fire station, police station or hospital, I think it's worth getting just for the novelty. Quote
brickzone Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Not impressed with the buildings, but that's not a problem as I find the large parts quite useful (as I have plenty of ordinary brick to go with them). I'd say it's a nice set to have if it's on sale. I bought mine from the UK (even with postage, less than the €65 that Smyth's Toys sell it for here in Ireland). If you like the tractor and silo, I'd say go for it. Quote
Milan Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I would not take it. It is overpriced. But if you really like it, 30% off is very tempting... Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 (edited) This is a good question, Legoliner! It's definately too expensive - only compare it to the awesome 10199 Winter Toy Shop which is 10 Euros cheaper but which is much more realistic and lovelier designed. But the buildings of this Farm set (against my former aim I built it up last Friday) are very <insert that tiresome argument>, the cowshed is much too small and the barn looks really minimalistic. Nevertheless the tractor and the cows and the additional stuff included in this set are great! And like TheBrickster already mentioned: with the new great pigs enclosure and the farmer Impulse set it would look very well - and surely even better than only this set on its own. To put it in a nutshell: The Farm set is highly overpriced for what it contains - but nevertheless it would really be a pity to miss it if you have the money and place - since every city needs some farms where the food for the citizens is produced. And who knows whether TLG will bring back the Farm theme after having finished this line next year or the year after next year? Nobody knows. Klaus-Dieter Edited October 5, 2009 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
brickzone Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Pig farm looks much better - reminds me of toy farm elements with the small plastic animals I had as a kid - even down to the fences. Anyone else remember those cheap plastic farm animals? The pigs usually came with piglets suckling or trailing behind the sow. You sometimes got chickens or ducks in a line on a plastic base. Sometimes the bigger animals, particularly the horses would fall over due to being a bit skinny to save plastic - I remember one had to bend the legs to try and get them to stand up (although they worked better in carpet). aawsum Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 If you do not have the set yet this is a must buy. This set has a high playability factor. Also it is very complete. I agree that the buildings are a bit easy to build, but I guess that had to do with the budget. And about the price, well, yes it is a bit expensive, but reckon if you want to buy all of these 643 parts on bricklink, it would cost you a lot more (average price last 6 months is more then 100 euros). Again, it is a must buy, and also it gives you the right motive to build your own farm house that goes along with it Quote
