DarthSion Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I wasnt a huge fan but i did like old astroboy as a child, the movie doesnt seem to be too bad, nice CGI. An impressive cast, Nick cage, Kristen Bell she was great in Fanboys, Samuel L. Jackson, Charlize Theron, Bill Nighy which is so odd to see him in a kids movie after him being Viktor in underworld, Donald Sutherland, and Nathan Lane. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375568/ A preview for the movie. http://au.media.movies.ign.com/media/383/383214/vids_1.html I sure hope this movie is a good as its cast. Peppermint_M Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I thoroughly enjoyed the 2003 series (have it on DVD in fact) so as soon as I heard about this film (May-ish? it was a while back anyway..) I planned to go and see it, in 3D. Looks pretty good and the nature of Tezuka's work means it can be re-interpreted in many ways (and has been. If you like manga Pluto is a fantastic read) so that won't hurt the story, I am not trying to think of who wants to go to the cinema with me to see it. If it is out on 23rd of October in the UK then I can certainly see it pretty soon too. (Autumn is shaping up to have all the films I want to see, makes up for a rubbish summer.) Quote
DarthSion Posted September 3, 2009 Author Posted September 3, 2009 (edited) I never saw that, i meant the GenX one, those of us who grew up watching it as a kid in the 80s, and no can't stand the Asian cartoon stuff. Edited September 3, 2009 by DarthSion Quote
Forresto Posted September 5, 2009 Posted September 5, 2009 I don't know . I loved watching the original ones on adultswim so this movie might be okay. I think for me it's too early to tell but the animation is dynamite! Quote
Oky Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 New clip! Nothing all that new though, as most of this has been shown in the last trailer. After 9, this is the next animated movie I'm looking forward to. I really like the visual style and animation of Imagi studios, and this movie looks promising. I have not seen or read anything of Astroboy before, but I did watch Robotboy and liked the story of a crime fighting boy robot. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 Ach, Robotboy was just an American rip-off... *grumble* *grump* lol. I am wondering if the film means they will start re-airing the anime series on TV, I do have it on DVD, but in the wrong region. Having not been able to see 9 yet (still not out in the UK!) The list of films I wish to see just grows and grows. Quote
Oky Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 (edited) Awesome new Clip! Intent To Capture I think this movie is gonna be good! Also, it seems to me that Astro doesn't know that he's a robot at first. The statements on that guy's face screen are funny. Having not been able to see 9 yet (still not out in the UK!) The list of films I wish to see just grows and grows. Poor Pepper. Shouldn't 9 come out soon though? Edited October 16, 2009 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
Peppermint_M Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 9 is not out til 30th of October. Astro Boy is looking good. Also, have to say Darth Sion (just noticed this) The Astro Boy from the 80s that you saw was Asian too, made in Japan based on the manga by the Godfather of Anime. Just like the 2003 version that I watched known as a combination of the dark 80s series and the fluffy 60s series. All the clips and stills look as awesome as this film should be. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 29 January 2010 29 January 2010 29 January 2010 The date Astro Boy comes out in the UK. Does Hollywood hate the UK? Or just me? Quote
DarthSion Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 It can be for different reasons, Up only came to Australia in September, the reason being it is when the kids have 2 weeks holiday here. Quote
Big Cam Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 I saw this preview the other day and through the whole thing I kept saying to my wife, I know what this is, btu I can't think of the name, and then asa soon as it told me at teh end, it was like an epifany moment. My wife didn't care either way, I can't wait to see it! Quote
Oky Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 I just saw it last night, and I must say Wow! That was pretty darn good! Again, I have no clue about the old TV shows and mangas etc, but as a stand-alone movie it was great! I especially liked the character designs and animation. The facial expressions were very emotional. The story could have been a bit more complex for my taste, but its a kids movie after all, and it's totally fine as it is. It was a very fun movie to watch and it would be great to see some MOCs from it! Two  . Quote
