Greetings! :classic:

I have been admiring so many nice creations from the creative brick heads of this site and figured I would jump of a ledge and try one of my own. As the title description says, this is a work in progress (which looks better than it did two weeks ago) and will hopefully look more detailed in the future as I am not done just yet. So without further adew, on to the My First Own Creation!

The creation is broken down into four modules that have a distinct role in the legendary Drive-In setting. Most older generations will recall a time when people could drive their vehicle into an arena-like setting and park it while watching a movie on a monstrous big screen made of wood or canvas:

The arena (as mentioned before) was littered with equally spaced intercom boxes so that food could be ordered such as popcorn or candy from the concession:

The concession stand was usually on the bottom floor while the projection room was on the second floor:

The projection room would have such great movie titles like this one: "Attack of the Alien Moon Stalker"

Drive-In patrons would be greeted by the ticket master in a booth just outside of the arena:

Lastly, all of this would not be possible without the lure of a sign telling the people what fine entertainment is in store for them:

Work Still to be Done:

While there are still many things I want to do with this MOC I have the basis finally built. In the future I plan to add some cars in the layout as the speaker posts are spaced equally enough to allow for the traditional 4-stud wide classic cars. I was even thinking about putting more "vintage" vehicles into the lot (similar to 10184 Town Plan blue car). Also, the ticket booth will be color coordinated with the rest of the layout (black & white) and the concession will have more details like a popcorn machine and a refrigerator.

The billboard will have custom decals on both sides indicating what is showing (similar to 10184 Town Plan Cinema) and the big screen will have a custom decal with a similar picture of the "Attack of the Alien Moon Stalker"

as previously shown. Because what drive-in movie place would not have a cheesy outer space invasion thriller showing!?

So, in conclusion, there is still a little bit more that needs to be done and I will update when needed. I hope you all enjoyed My First Own Creation and hopefully this has not been to drawn out. Thank you :classic:

Hey Vestabuyer, welcome to Eurobricks. The links you posted are not yet visible because of the time it takes Brickshelf to screen all pictures, so why not read through some tutorials on how to deeplink images, so that we can view them anyway :sweet:.

Thank you very much for the tip on posting the pictures (rookie mistake). I think I am now getting the hang of it! Once again, thank you! :classic:

No problem, glad I could help! That's looking like a great first MOC, by the way. I really love the idea, and all of the details are great! I can't wait to see your finished version. I really don't have any suggestions yet.

They may not even have been very common outside the US, although I know there was one close to my hometown when I was a child. Even if we're not old enough to have been to one of these ourselves they've been shown in lots of sitcoms and movies, so the concept ought to be familiar to most people. What you've built so far looks pretty good. Nice and detailed. I like the ticket booth most of all

This whole thing gives me an idea. I understand you wanting to use some custom stickers, but wouldn't it be nicer if that large movie screen wasn't a sticker but was actually a mosaic of the scene you have in mind or a picture built out of bricks? It would not be easy to pull off and would cost loads of small plates, but it could look fantastic. Think about it! :sweet:

Cheers,

Ralph

I was thinking about an idea like that to. I had thought of originally applying the sticker and then yusing a very sharp pin knife, I would cut in between the tiles to give it a more "projected on painted wood boards" look like so many of the drive-in before.
