legotrainfan Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 (edited) Martial arts is quite popular among children. Sometimes kids learn to love their martial art and keep training it for many years. Also adults sometimes join a martial arts club and learn to love it. My questions are: Did you or do you train in martial arts? And which martial arts did you go for and why? I started judo when I was 12. I took my black belt exam in March 2006. I'm a 1st degree black belt, but I don't train anymore due to health problems. And no, my martial arts did not harm my body. So judo is not the cause for my physical problems. Anyway, I train tai chi now. Tai chi may not be real martial arts, but it includes several kung fu elements. Back to judo: I chose judo because it was somehow a family tradition. My grandpa trained in jiu jitsu. My dad and my godfather did judo and one of my dad's uncles also did judo. Apart from that, when I started training, judo and karate were the only popular martial arts back then. Edited August 7, 2009 by legotrainfan Quote
meschepers Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I took Taekwon Do for six years when I was a kid. I still remember most of it. The instructor I had was very knowledgeable and has the highest rank you can obtain in TKD. He holds black belts in other forms as well so we learned some Jiu JItsu, Judo, and Hapkido as well so he was training his students in every manner of self defense. I mainly quit because I came to college but I still try to work out when I can. Quote
