Dan the Brickman Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 (edited) Greetings and Salutations! My name is Lord Falkner, and I have been working on a game idea called Dungeons and Bricks. I would like some help from the Lego community in developing it. EDIT:* August 9 09 This forum is mainly for signing up to help with this project, please keep comments to a minimum,(for now, in this thread) (original post, ignore now) *Open for comments, or ideas etc. Please feel free to post any comments and ideas about this project. I will be creating new threads for the actual development later, in which you can post all the comments you want,(Please ). -What do I need help with? Developing some of the rules/ Opinions from the community on which version of the rules is better. also, since my camera broke (forcing me to drop out of the red-coat/blue-coat tourney....) I will be needing help with creating MOCs and pics to put on the D&B website. -how will the development process work? I will guide the development team through an organized plan of development. We will work on one part of the game at a time. for example, we will probably start with character stats/races, deciding what races/professions to have in the game, starting/ending stats etc. then after that part is mostly done, we will work on weapons. we will communicate through these forums, pm, and email. (and the D&B website) Everyone who helps develop this will get credit for their part. -So why do you need/want help with this? 2 reasons 1. although I have a general plan for the game, need help refining the rules. and since this is to be a lego rpg, I would like some help with ideas to make it very, "lego-friendly", that is, there will be some things in the game that you could only do with legos, that wouldn't work without them. 2.I thought this would be a good way to introduce myself to the Lego community, and to get to know some of you. so, if you want to be a part of this, sign up here! (work will officially begin on this project in about 1 week, sun from next... but you can join in anytime!) Edited August 9, 2009 by Lord Falkner
Sandy Posted July 30, 2009 Posted July 30, 2009 Hey! Great to hear you're interested in a LEGO tabletop RPG. You're not the only one. Have you heard of Brickquest? Go visit the website through that link, and you'll see the possibilities of D&D turned into LEGO. I myself have developed a similar tabletop RPG inspired by Brickquest. I call it Lore of the Bricks, and it includes a simplified statsystem with no die rolling. Rather, it's attack versus defense without any variables. I'd love to discuss production of this type of games with you and other members, but unfortunately I don't really have time to contribute more to it. I've got so many other projects going on right now (Princess Quest, Time Crash, graduation...). I can share what I've thought up with LotB thus far, though, if you want.
AhabDarab Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 Hello. I too am a Brickquest fan. I have been working on a campaign system for 6 months now. Peter Guenther (I hope I spelled his name right) created Brickquest, and is glad to allow others to adapt it to their needs. I suggest looking at his system before you do anything else. Ahab out......................
Dan the Brickman Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 actually, I will be using a few ideas i got from him, such as modular dungeons, but I am wanting to make something a bit more 'complicated', that is, with leveling up. and, instead of blocky squares for movement, full stud by stud movement. the idea is to make things a little more d&d style. Brickquest did come up with some good ideas, but I have something a little different in mind..... ...oh, and as it is going to be a lego d&d, there will be options for OTHER THEMES! besides castle. for example, star-wars and city people could be an option. so, you could be a dwafin Sith lord, and wield a frying-pan as a weapon....as odd as that might be....
Dan the Brickman Posted July 31, 2009 Author Posted July 31, 2009 ok, some ideas I have so far: (to give people an idea of what I have in mind...) 1.-stud by stud movement- your speed stat will equate to how many studs you can move per turn. 2-Castle main theme, but additional rules for incorporating space and city (Castle rule will include pirate and ninja, space will be SW, space police etc) 3-Ideas for Races: Castle races: Human Elf Dwarf Troll Skeleton :pir-skull: Space races:(optional) Alien-generic/unspecified Cyborg Wookie (cant think of any other alien races off the top of my head...) City theme would not add any new races. Ideas for Professions: Castle: Knight Ninja Mage Cleric Ranger Pirate Thief Monarch Merchant Space: Pilot Marine Jedi/Sith Bounty hunter City: Mechanic Scientist 4-Pet ideas Dog Cat Falcon Owl horse elephant Dragon-yes, but hard to raise, like charmander! 5-How you build your minifig will affect things. short legs move slower, hook hands cant hold things, but can be a weapon. cyborg arms could use special tools/weapons. special figs, like general grievous, could wield 4 weapons, but not wear extra armor. these are some of my ideas to start with.... any suggestions?
Sandy Posted July 31, 2009 Posted July 31, 2009 I like what you've thought up for now. I just have a suggestion for the job classes. You should think of a skillset for each job before choosing which classes to add to the game, and then only take the balanced ones and scrap or tweak those that are too weak or too overpowered. My Lore of the Bricks job classes include: Swordmaster (wields all types of swords, but no other weapons) Skills: Frenzy (transfer defense points to attack power until the end of the next turn), Cut (remove an obstacle that can be cut) Protector (tank job with heavy weaponry) Skills: Cover (take damage for all allies within the movement radius until the next turn), Ram (break an object that can be run down) Ranger (uses bows and other projectile weapons) Skills: Barrage (cause halved damage to all enemies within the attack radius), Throw (use an item on a character within the movement radius) Sorcerer (dark wizard who can wield staves, scythes, whips and broomsticks) Skills: Black Magic (cast destructive spells), Drain (transfer 3 points of health from the target to the character) Healer (benevolent mage who uses staves, hammers and wands) Skills: White Magic (cast supporting spells), Transfusion (transfer 3 points of mana from the target to the character) Raider (thief with a wide array of light weapons to choose from) Skills: Steal (take a treasure from an enemy with 2/3 chances), Lockpick (open locks with 2/3 chances) Enchanter (mystic that can turn enemies and lifeless objects into allies, uses light weaponry) Skills: Enchant (take control of a neutral animal or object for one turn at the cost of mana), Charm (take control of an enemy for one turn with 1/2 chances) As you see, these jobs focus on both battle and adventuring through the maps in their skills.
Dan the Brickman Posted August 2, 2009 Author Posted August 2, 2009 thanks for the input Sandy. is your LotB rules posted anywhere? if not, would you email them to me? I would like to look over them for more ideas. I'll be back online on Monday or Tuesday, and I'll post more ideas then. -Falkner

I can surely e-mail them to you, but I can't do it from the system they have here, since I need to attach the file. So, I'll be needing your e-mail address. Feel free to PM it to me, and I'll send my stuff to you. ;D Glad to be of help! ~Sandy
