Etzel Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 The great park tree has been a symbol for the small town for as long as anyone can remember. Big and majestic it has stand in the center of the town and given the citizens a feeling of nature and life even amongst all the concrete and asphalt. Not long ago the park that the tree stand in was sold to a private business man with nothing but money in his mind. Now he plans to cut down the tree to make room for a new car park in it's place. When the locals found out about the plans the gathered to protest and some even chained them self to the tree. Police have now been sent to the park to handle the protests but they seem to be heavily outnumbered... The business man himself with his two henchmen. I'm not used to build town-themed MOCs but I had this idea in my mind that just needed to be made so I tried to do the best I could. Some more policemen wouldn't hurt but I only have three (two of them I bought just for this MOC ) and I guess the tree is a little to big for a single man to cut down. But all together I'm pretty pleased with the result, I hope you are too Please write comments and critics if you want to! /Etzel PS. I'm not very active here on EB during the summer so it might take a while before I answer any questions and other things, sorry about that. Quote
MetroiD Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 A very original idea and a great build too, well done! I was wondering whether you had planned on puttin this diorama in a proper surrounding (i.e. a modern "concrete paradise" city), despite the fact that you aren't that much into town? Furthermore, the tree really IS quite big and you could also add some building machines to put it all into context even more (i.e. construction of parking garage planned). In any case, this is a wonderful MOC. Wonder why it hasn't been blogged anywhere yet - seeing as it "handles" a topic which is really current.... Quote
Sandy Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Yay, go civil disobedience! I simply love this MOC! I wish people would rally up like this more in real life. The crowd you've put in this is superb. I think the businessman belongs to the Mafia in reality, with the two goons following him. Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I like it! It reminds me of UC Berkeley. They are always protesting about trees. The burning garbage can was a nice touch. Quote
Etzel Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 Thank you very much for your kind comments. I'm happy that you liked it! I was wondering whether you had planned on puttin this diorama in a proper surrounding (i.e. a modern "concrete paradise" city), despite the fact that you aren't that much into town? I would love to make some surroundings for this MOC but I don't have enough pieces and/or time for that I think the businessman belongs to the Mafia in reality, with the two goons following him. That wouldn't be a bad guess, I think Quote
fallentomato Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I like it! The tree is very cool, definitely worth defending. The only thing I would want is for the construction guy to have a bigger saw or some other way of cutting down the tree. I don't know that it quite needs to be a jungle cutter, but I'd just like that aspect to be a little more menacing. Nice work on the riot police and the brick built road too. Quote
Tom Bricks Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Great job. The naturalist chained to the tree is perfect. Good mix of browns on the tree too. Quote
Loganwan Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Haha! As a resident of the California Bay Area, we just finished over a year of this with a grove of trees in Berkley. Better watch out 'cuz those minifigs in the trees will start to smell after a while without a shower. :) Quote
samthelegoman1 Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Put a Volkswagen van in the background and it would be perfect! Quote
streifen Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 The tree is huge!! if u put it next to the CC or GG, it is definitely worth saving!! i spotted a chef in there. great save from the community!! Quote
UsernameMDM Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 The Businessman and his henchmen look like they belong in Kung Fu Hustle! Hahaha. Quote
gondortoast Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 i like it its very well bulit i agree it would look good next to a cc or a focal point for a small park lego trees have feelings too Quote
Darth Legolas Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 (edited) Wait, wait, wait.... Yesterday, I made those exact group of minifigs. The two men in the Indy Jones gangster suits and hats, and the guy in the top hat wearing Indy Jones' fancy shirt. That's scary.... Great job on the MOC! I love the tree and SNOT street! paintballman413 Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 very cool. add a giant crane behind the tree lifting it and nobody is noticing it. Quote
Etzel Posted July 13, 2009 Author Posted July 13, 2009 Thank you very much everyone for your kind words ! All your suggestions to make the MOC better is really good and I wish I could make all of them, but unfortunately I don't have the time (nor the pieces) right now But I really appreciate your comments, they will be handy when I make my next MOC Remember, sustainability never goes out of style!
