Hinckley Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Here is another one of my new buildings from our "Fabuland Train Club" display at Brickworld. This is a three story brownstone with a diner on the first floor. Based off of the Chicago Diner in the Lakeview neighborhood in Chicago, which is a vegan diner. Looks nothing like the real building. I based the architecture on my original fire station. See full gallery here or click any picture. Enjoy and please feel free to leave feedback. Thanks. Quote
Davey Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I loved seeing this in person. Hinckley is such an amazing builder and an even more amazing person. His building techniques are second to none and I hope he doesn't mind if I start emulating his style. He's so...well...stylish. -Dave ToT-LUG Quote
BlueBard Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 A magnificent creation, Hinckley! The use of those corner crystals is really nice and of course the detailed facade and windows are a real inspirating example for every town builder Quote
RichardAM Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I love the windows downstairs- is that the Paradisa panels on their side? Quote
Eilif Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 (edited) Based off of the Chicago Diner... ...Looks nothing like the real building. Classic Hinkley. Hinckley is such an amazing builder and an even more amazing person. His building techniques are second to none Agreed. When I go to Brickworld, most of the pictures I take are of architectural detailing, and reviewing my pics, these buildings really stand out. Much as I hate to give him a reason to brag, it must be said that Hinkley's buildings had some of the most extensive and most-consistently-tastefull ornamentation of the show. Reminds me very much of an idealized, slightly-exagerated (in a good way) take on classic Chicago architecture. Burnam would be proud. Edited June 24, 2009 by Eilif Quote
Commodore Hornbricker Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 It is very beautiful. The design detail you put into it is very amazing. I would have looked to have seen this in person. Quote
SeaKing61 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 The building? meh, average. But just look at that Juckfozzer, the detail is fantastic. Implementing a mosaic design while maintaining a consistent overall pattern, beautiful! My only criticism is that it looks like that bley 1x4 by the door isn't quite pushed down properly... Back in the real world, it's absolutely great, Hinckley. The detailings are fantastic, from the stonework around the windows to the seating in the diner, it's great. That fire escape is a thing of beauty too. I just hope that cat's alright, it seems to have a large yellow growth coming from its stomach, lifting it entirely off the ground! Laurie Quote
Tom Bricks Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 This is great, nice use of the windows on the first floor. Do you have any comparison pics with the TLC modular buildings? Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 That is amazing! I much rather have that as a set (maybe dark blue instead of dark red) instead of the fire station. Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Wow, what a wonderful building you've made Hinckley. I absolutely love all of the the detail on the facades on the top floors, the tan and brown colour scheme fits in perfectly here. It really gives it a nice 20's feel to it. The addition of the fire escape is great too, it gives the building a nice run-down and old feeling to it. Then contrasted with the simple retro diner - fantastic. Again, great colour scheme here, I'm a big fan of dark blue. I always love the use of that trans-clear curved panel as a window, and this is no exception. I like the interior too - is there any chance we could see a better picture of it? My only complaint with the bottom would be that it is a little bare. I would suggest adding some sort of decal onto the green piece or perhaps on the white roof. Great job Hinckley, this is definitely one of my favourite town buildings of yours. Quote
marcosbessa Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Great work! I love all the details you put in it! I had already seen some photos of it in BrickWorld, but now I can pay more attemption to the details.... And they're really great!! Congratz! P.S. Love the color scheme.... Quote
Teddy Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I really love the architecture you've put in here. The color scheme is great as well. The Diner looks really cool with the bend window. Especially since you managed to hide the studs on top. An improvement of the use of this piece which we saw in Town plan. Quote
MetroiD Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Those panoramic front windows... (bow). Left me speechless! And that's saying something, considering the ranting rog I ram. Quote
Freddie Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Incredibly detailed design, as we've come to expect from you, Hinckley! I agree with all of the above comments. The diner's panoramic windows are a very nice detail, as is the clashing designs for the two facades. Interesting design for the fire-escape as well, and the interior visible through the windows is a nice touch as well. Gives the building a sense of purpose, or life if you will. Quote
Reaper052 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 I really like this building, I would never have thought of using the belville windows that way. I'll have to remember that for when I eventually build my table town to be modular. Can you post pictures of this together with your other modular buildings? Quote
Hinckley Posted July 15, 2009 Author Posted July 15, 2009 I really like this building, I would never have thought of using the belville windows that way. I'll have to remember that for when I eventually build my table town to be modular. Can you post pictures of this together with your other modular buildings? Thank you! However, I can't take credit for the window idea. It was used officially in the Town Plan: Also, they are Paradisa windows, not Belleville-I think. This is the best I can do right now for showing it with my other modular buildings: My collection is completely packed up right now as I'm moving across the country. I'm looking forward to having a display up again soon. Thanks everybody for the great feedback! Quote
GRUMBLECAKES Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Well, that is one amazing looking diner. and now for some reason I feel like a sandwich... Quote
