SirNadroj Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 (I assume this fits better here than in Sci-Fi, yes?) Anyway, this is just a steampunk lab/workshop/factory. Two main "sections" All pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sirnadroj/ Thanks! Quote
Spyder Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Holy-friggin-crap. Those wood beams are amazing! The whole MOC is so detailed, especially the wall. And I just love that chandelier. I must say, this is one of your best creations yet. Quote
Zepher Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Generally I love your builds, your probaly in my top 5 builders, maybe even top 3. But this one isn't doing it for me. It needs a focus point. In all art (and yes, Lego is art) there's got to be a center of attention, and this MOC is lacking it. While everything in it is awesome, there's nothing that really catches my eye. THe wood frame is the same color, which makes it not the center point, and the back wall is hidden, and also uni-colored. The figs would be the center of the MOC, but they're simply too small to catch my attention. I of course couldn't do better myself, I'm just giving my thoughts! Still better than anything I could do, so it's nice, just not up to YOUR standard! Quote
SirNadroj Posted June 23, 2009 Author Posted June 23, 2009 Thanks for the feedback! Generally I love your builds, your probaly in my top 5 builders, maybe even top 3. Still better than anything I could do, so it's nice, just not up to YOUR standard! I can agree about a lack of a focus point, but as far as the overall composition goes, I'll have to disagree. The mirrors and lined up with the chandelier, while the foreground supercedes the background nicely with the variation in color from greys for the steel and brown for the wood [i can't mix up color for the wood besides browns and reddish browns] while asyemmtrical details like the tesla coil and desk mix up the workshop space. I know more than anyone that LEGO is an art medium - I consider it one before anything else, so I certainly stand by my work as far as it being art goes. I appreciate your feedback, but naturally I'm going to defend my work. I may turn out MOCs at a seemingly quick pace, but I do put lots of time into them. Sometimes it's not best to look at a MOC from an artistic point of view - I mean, what's more artistic, this or something that I build to be artistic, like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sirnadroj/3611879573/ Not everything I build is meant to be "artistic", but many are built simply to be representations of whatever I'm going for - in this case, a steampunk lab. But thanks for being honest. Quote
user Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Though I partially agree with zepher about the focus problem you may want to add something to catch peoples attention like what you did in your "Cogs of the gods" YOC. Bu t I do absolutely love this creation don't get me wrong the back wall gears and tesla coil is amazing! The minifigure's mechanical arm is a great addition too. I agree that sometimes normal creations can be as good as artistic creations although my sister only likes my artistic creations (I've never posted them) but hates all my other creations I've learned to enjoy both types. ~Computerbug Quote
Zepher Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 (edited) Thanks for responding to my inquires! I would like to say that I found the Wood-work incredible, and the lab area is very well done, if that was the MOC alone I'd easily be able to find a few more focus points. It is very good, but just not up to your usual work! Again, thanks for answering my thoughts, and there's no shame in defending your work, I know everyone puts a lot of work into their MOCs! Bartram Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Very interesting creation. Cool how you incorporated those dark grey platform pieces. Really cool, except the outside "wall" is a bit plain. Overall good job, though. Quote
Guss Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 excellent, I love the technique you used to make the structure of the building, it's very impressive! Quote
TenorPenny Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 You've placed a whole lot of character in to those two little figs. Well done! Quote
djmangunz Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I LOVE the chandelier. It is fantastic! The chrome pieces are great also. I enjoy the steampunk genre, and this is a great interpretation. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 That is fantastic. I don't mind the lack of a focus, because It's just briliant, and of an epic size! I can totaly imagine that as part of a floating castle! Quote
UsernameMDM Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Wow! The chandelier looks great, as does the rest of the moc. Quote
