k_peek_2000 Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 It looks like merlin entertainment (the company who designs legoland) is scouting a new location for a 2nd Legoland park in Orlando, that will be the biggest of all the legoland parks. Read more here. One of our readers was invited to take quite an interesting online survey the other day that involves the possibility of a brand new theme park coming to the central Florida area. The questions were all about building Legoland Florida, which would be based on the basic design and layout of the Legoland California park, and feature about 50 different rides and attractions. The survey asked some basic questions about ticket price levels as well trying to tell how interested people would be in visiting Legoland Florida on their next trip to the area as well as what age groups were thought to be just right or too old for a Legoland park trip. They also asked questions about where people would rank a trip to Legoland in comparison to all the other central Florida area attractions. However the most interesting thing of all were questions that asked if Legoland chose to build their park on the site of Cypress Gardnes, would you be more or less interested in visiting. They even drew up a map to show off where Cypress Gardens is located, kind of between Tampa and Orlando, but unfortunately it has utterly dismal freeway access, requiring about a 30 minute drive off into the middle of nowhere to find it. Personally I think a Legoland theme park in Central Florida would be a huge draw and would quickly become the premier Legoland experience in the world. However trying to set up roots on the Cypress Gardens site is one of the worst ideas I’ve heard. If they could take over the former Boardwalk & Baseball site right next to the freeway or somewhere even closer to Orlando, that would guarantee their success. Unfortunately I have no confidence at all in the Cypress Gardens site so I’d avoid it like the plague since I believe the poor freeway access has been a major issue all along with the park’s ability to survive. Tom Bricks Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 (edited) YESS! Finally I can go to one as I go to Florida ever year in March! This is a dream come true. I really hoe this goes through, and I would like it to be as close as possible to Orlando. Edited June 18, 2009 by Tom Bricks Quote

The Green Brick Giant Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 I don't think it's a great idea, I much MUCH rather go to Disney World than a LEGO Park in Orlando. Good luck LEGOland through! Quote

Fair enough but have you been to both parks in California? Disneyland is much bigger than LEGOLAND but I took my family last summer and we all agreed that LEGOLAND was better*. I don't think you can pre-judge something like that - although I find it odd a LEGO-fan would not be predisposed to a preference for LEGOLAND. * "better" in this case means it was more interesting and amusing for a family made up of two adults, and three kids (10, 6, 2). If it's "big" rides likes roller coasters etc then for sure, Disneyland would probably have won. YMMV Edited June 19, 2009 by tedbeard Quote

Whittleberry Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 (edited) I just hope that as the number of LEGOLAND parks grow, they'll still stay nice places to go to without being bastardized by a focus on profit-making and incorporating the parks with Merlin Group's aquariums and things. The parks need to stay good quality, inspiring places that respect the LEGO values and what the LEGO brand represents. Edited June 20, 2009 by Whittleberry Quote
Teddy Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Okay, this might just turn Florida into a possible holliday destination for me. Quote
Shadows Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Don't get your hopes up too far. If you read that full page, you'll realise it was just one option in a single survey from quite a while back, and nothing has happened on it since. The last story I heard had them putting one in the middle of Kansas or somewhere equally odd. As much as I've love to see a LEGOLAND within driving distance, I just don't see it happening in this economy. Quote
Dadster Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Thanks for the heads-up. With kids who enjoy Lego and Grandma's house only an hour north of Orlando, this will be full of win the next year or so! Quote
