It depends what sound the car makes. If it's just a regular Passat sound, then that's fine, but if it has a nice sound, then maybe they'll suspect something. They might also suspect it to be a sleeper car, which it kinda is. :sceptic:

Thats kinda like my car... I have a cat delete pipe and a resonator delete, you can here the turbo rip when it hits boost plus some low end growl.

Keep the windows rolled down :sceptic:

The actual General Lee's that they used in the shows had windows, they just screwed off the thing that you used to roll them up with.

Oh, I know that, but the story in the TV show was they welded the doors shut and there were no windows. I was just throwing out some old TVland history.

That's what I was about to say. I noticed there were never windows in that car :sceptic:

If you think about it, if the doors are welded shut, then you couldn't role up the windows anyways cause you couldn't get out. Or in for that matter. :classic:

It shows the windows rolled up 3 times throughout the show. They only rolled up the windows when it rained. It's quite obvious that they didn't role them up when they wernt in the car

Yay, I earned my drivers licence just two weeks ago! Due to bureaucratism it took me over a week to actually get ahold of it tho. =_=

But! Today I made my first ride without intructor. A bit scary at first (especially because I had to drive in my grandmother's automatic car), but it went well. I still highly prefer manual cars, they just drive smoother, quiter.

I can't always borrow grandmother's car so I'm still thinking about which car to get. It should be safe and as environment-friendly as possible.

Congrats! Which car does she have?

What kind of car do you want to get should be the real question. And what do you mean by "environmentally friendly"? Do you mean good on gas or literally less pollutants?

I just received new Fiat Punto, with great State subvention regarding price.

After cracking myself 6 years in old Renault 4, this new Punto is like a cruiser for me...I like it a lot!

I'm kind of new as far as talking about cars go, so don't mind me.

However, I must present to you my dream car. Of course, I'll never get my hands on one seeing as it's in the Mercedes-Benz museum in Germany. :sing: The modified 1998 M-Class from The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

If I have the chance someday, I'll get my own regular ML-320 and modify it myself.

I remember this. I have a revel plastic snap-toeghter model kit of it!

I remember the movie producers got ahold of them before they were officaly avaible to the public. Great looking expedtion type vehicles.

I remeber a while seeing someone that took a stock one and modified it to resemble the movie car. In fact, that was there hobby. Husband and wife if i remember correctly. They did the Ghost busters car (well, they used a Subaru Legacy), and the Jeep from the first Jussic Park movie.

Wow, must be an expensive hobby... But then again, so is our hobby.

Would it happen to be this one, that's not in the Mercedes-Benz museum? There were originally three of the cars. One was wrecked by the Rexes, one was digitally destroyed by being rolled off a cliff, before the trailer sequence when Jeff Goldblum says "Mommy's very angry", and the third was only in the factory scene in the beginning(Most likely due to the fact there was only three members not on the island, so that meant they only had three drivers, one for the RV, and two for the cars).

So that must mean there's still two out there.

Hope you do find one (a stock ML320). They are reasonably easy to find (At least in Canada), and sometimes they're really cheap too, so if you have a budget, you might be able to pimp it out to its fullest extent :classic:

We'll see though in a few years. Some cars just stick that I'll eventually have to choose between. A Pontiac Solstice and a '97 ML-320. :sweet: However, I'm not old enough to drive yet, so.... :cry_sad:

I certainly hope so. People are gonna be scratching their heads, though, if I drive on a city street looking like that! Which is why I like it.

All this talk about emissions testing...you guys should just move to Alabama, where there is no testing to be found!

Due to the global economic recession (that's what I am blaming it on at least), I'm probably stuck with my little old car for a while longer barring me winning the lottery. In reality I'm going to grad school instead of diving straight into the job market, and unfortunately I don't sleep on piles of cash. :sceptic:

I could careless about emissions testing. As long as you keep in mind that at somepoint you will need to get your vehicle back to stock (if you mod it that is) then your fine.

I don't understand your last coment. So those that drive nice vehicles have extra money to burn? I have workedvery hard for the things i own, as i'm sure you have. You don't need gobs of cash to have nice things either, just know when to spend what ever amount of money you currently have.

Yes, that's exactly what I am saying. Someone doesn't buy a Mercedes if they aren't well off (or they shouldn't), because as you said one should know when to spend one's hard earned money or when to restrain when that money isn't there. With my parents emigrating to the United States over 30 years ago, I know all about hard work; even with my dad working 3 jobs all of his life he still doesn't drive around in a $80k car. Maybe it's a difference in culture, but I've been taught all my life to be frugal, at times out of necessity.

What's the point of having nice things if it means you are burdened with a monthly payment you can barely afford? If you can manage to fully pay a car off with cash on the spot, then yes I'd say you are pretty well off. Maybe when I'm a professional in the workforce earning considerably more than I am right now I'll finally commit to investing $60k in an automobile, but for now my opinion stands (as wrong and relative as it may be).

Did that help to clear up some of the confusion?

I wasn't confused at all, but you make a very interesting point.

"Never buy something if you can't afford the rip-off payments that the government expects you to pay every month, especially if that means you want to modify you're car just to make it look anything like the one in the movie you obsess over."
