I became an army builder 3 months ago, when I bought of LDD my new custom Legodovian Army (Exército Legodoviano).

Now I just placed my 2nd order on my army, and in 2-3 weeks, my first Light Tank will arrive :cry_happy:

Good topic indeed.

I'm attempting to start an army. But my main problem is trying to figure out what army I want to do. If I start an army, I soon loose interest in the theme, and move to a different theme, and so on, and it gets quite annoying. I have tried many armies, but Now I have resorted to making an army of worn military soldiers and enemies, which seems to be my best route.

The only minifigs I've really purposefully collected a lot of are the new Pirate Redcoats, I just love the way they look and I currently have about 50.

Besides that I don't like to build huge armies, mainly because I can't do as much with them as I could if I would use the money for sets with more bricks, and Bricklink.

That being said, I love to get as many minifigs as I can, just not tons of one type. :classic:

Another thing I forgot to point out here, it is possible to make an army for cheap. I chose tuskens because they arent as expensive as most other factions, and individual parts are dirt cheap. The torsos and heads aren not at all expensive.

I'm something of an 'accidental' army builder. More specifically; I have amassed a pretty impressive collection of castle figures but I never had an interest in collecting figs. This of course is a side-effect of collecting castle and castle-related LEGO accessories for 25 years. I've never been a fan of lining up hundreds of the same figure on a baseplate though as medieval armies of the 1300 and 1400s were anything but uniform.

I respect those of you who have a passion for army building, however it isn't my cup of tea. My figs need a place to live.

I build my army whenever the opportunity presents itself. In other words, I don't spend hundreds of dollars on impulses to get x amount of pirates. I usually buy (for my SW and Castle armies) one of each set that I want (I don't get every set due to limited budget and ridiculousness), as well as doubles of each battle pack. That's about it. I have a decent-sized clone army (20 or so clones/ people of various ranks/ eras) and a 30+ droid army. A few Stormies, rebels, and Jedi round out my SW collection, and I have about 15 Castle figures.

In short, I do army build as much as my budget allows me. :classic:

I love Clone Troopers.

I bought a lot of battle pack but I sold the bricks away to reduce my cost.

Sometimes I even sold the minifig separately from the set to gain some profit for more Clone Troopers and sometimes it turn out to be i get free Clone Troopers as i manage to cover my cost and earn a little money out of it.

Yes I agree, I always buy the sets first then I start army building.

Me too. I have a lot of priorities such as paying for skiing lessons, buying ammo for my shot gun (I am a member of a skeet club, so I go through ammo pretty quick, I reload my empties to save money for Lego and video games).

I have bought about 25 clone troopers in the last 2 months due too the fact that the battle pack is not going to be out for ever, as I learnt with the episode III battle pack. stupidly I only bought 1 pack :sceptic:

As for castle I never army build on purpose, I have about 80-100 figures. The only reason I have that many is because I have bought most of the sets between 2004-2009.

I love to build my pirate and soldier armys. I will never stop buying soldiers, NEVER

I am not much of an army builder right now, more of a squad builder. I currently have at least one 10 man squad plus various special units for my 40k inspired factions. I have Space Marines inspired by the Dark Angels, Eldar, Imperial Guard, Space Orcs, an unnamed faction very like the Tau, and the Dwarrow (basically Space Dwarves). I know that those names aren't very creative, but I like to consider it an homage rather a straight rip-off. I plan to expand each of my factions into full armies in the future when time and budget allow. I build armies in order to look cool in battle scenes. In my opinion, a hero is only as good as the foes he defeats, so I think that a Conan-style barbarian looks cooler hackig his way through fifty orcs rather than 5-10.

I'm not into army building either. I don't have the room or the patience to work with so many minifigs, especially of the same or similar build. I enjoy the kind of diversity in my minifig collection that is incompatible with the mindset of army building.

There are cost concerns with building an army itself, but I'd also rather spend the money getting other sets than getting the same set over and over just for the minifigs. While minifigs are awesome in their own right, I like building sets, and derive the most enjoyment out of building sets.

That having been said, I also don't like named figures. I like my minifigs to be a little more generic. One-face-fits-all is probably a little too generic, but perhaps having a few faces for police, a few faces for firemen, etc. would be ideal. But the minifigs lacking specific personages I'd imagine would make army building easier, which I'm all for as well.

Anyway, no, I don't army build for various reasons, though it wouldn't be an unpleasant surprise if I somehow ended up with an army through buying a lot of sets.

Hello people...happy to join the club! I've loved Lego all my life and grew up with it, but as my parents had limilted money, i could only afford rare set here or there..One Xmas they bought me an Intercity electric train-set..WOW

Over the years i damaged my legos, worn it out, gave it away, lost it, sold it, in pursuit of teenage wants, the lumbering feeling never changed. (only little remained)

I always like starwars, and when i found out Lego started making Lego starwars kit...the rest was history!!

In 2001 i started collecting now as an adault and having a bigger wallet, collected a number of kits, but sadly due to health issues and (deadly bills) sold them all off,,,cheap...still kicking myself!

Then in 2007/8 i re-started all-over...main theme being based around Hoth...

At the moment im trying to build up an army, buts its hugely costly for mimi-figs off Ebay. Some bigger sets you get better value.

At first i didnt set my sights very high, maybe 1 AT-AT, couple of AT-STs, couple of snow speeders and a basic base, cannons around 20 troops each side.

But as time grew on, i became more obessed..and dented my wallet hard....

I would like to build up a 20ft x 20ft war area, but as we might be moving house soon, i'll await out on that.

Most of the hoth base i plan with build wood, painted white and decorated with lego parts, to use all-lego, just cant afford it, not the size i want it....!!!

So at this point i managed to get 3 AT-ATs 4483 (dont like the new motorised version much) 4 AT-STs, custom made imperial artillary, 6 speeder bikes, 4 snowspeeders, Hoth small gen hanger equipment (ramps, hover trucks etc)

Kits: Melluiluim falcon (early type), Slave-1, 2.Y-wings, 2.A-wings, TIE bomber (converted for officer transport)

5 Atgar cannons, 5 big cannons from the new hoth sets, i bought about 4....

I want to actually place LEDS into the base to give it more excitement, esp hanger bay. and command center, as well as LEDS on the AT-ATs.

Troop wise, about 40 rebel troops, 14 rebel pitlots, 15 rebel mechanics, numurous driods of all types for both sides, about 70 stromtroopers, 6 AT-AT drivers( plan AT head converstion to allow 2 pilots) , 15 imperial officers (grey) 10 (black) and about 40 Snowtroopers ( these being most exspensive)....and about 15 imperial scout troopers.

Plus usual ones, Han-solo, luke, Leia. Chewbacca, yoda. R2D2, Gen Veers, white, black.gold C3P0 types, medical driods, Vader himself, Emp Palatine, 6 red imperial guards..plus some custom figures i made up!

I would like to get 60-70 rebels, 90-100 snowtroopers, more imperial and rebel officers, Hoth sheild generator, maybe one more AT-AT?

Not all these kits i own are currently built...im currently buying parts to make an improved "Imperial Lambda shuttle" for Darth or Palatine...

No real space fighters intrest me...i enjoy more ground combat, hence my collection bias...

Thanks for taking the time, i'll keep you posted!! (my battles might even be roll-played)

In the future i'd like to start collection castle legos as well..

I can't say I am exactly what you can call an army builder.

I don't buy lots and lots of battlepacks or set just to get the minifigs (actually the SW Rebel and Imperial BattlePacks, along with the droids ones, were the first sets ive bought more than 1 unit of each).

Simply, as I have a lot of sets, and most of them are of the SW theme, I can say I have a reasonable, although quite unorganized army of Minifigs.

I love Minifigs, sure I do. But they just not everything, and they surely not the essence of LEGO.

Cheers
