LegoLink Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Hi, I've been working on this for a short time and I'd like to show it off. It's a Japanese home, with a courtyard japanese garden. After seeing a teahouse MOC at Brick Fair 08 I was inspired to try my own hand at tatami flooring using SNOT techniques. So far I am pleased with my work. Natman8000 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Nice and smoothly built. I think it might be a little to smooth, the green area is grass fight? I don't think it looks good flat, studs might be better. Quote

ED-209 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Thanks, I thought that to but studs to me looks quite ugly. What does grass fight mean? Any other suggestions for grass? I think he probably means "the green area is grass, right?" That being said, the whole thing looks very nice! The elegant, clean lines of a Japanese house are very recognisable in your work. I don't think that there's a problem using tiles or SNOT for grass, but it is usually a more "textured" surface so I think that studs are perfectly justifiable. Personally, I'd try to keep the grass uniform - if it's tiled inside the courtyard then it should be tiled outside the house too. (But that's just my two cents! ) Quote
oo7 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I saw that Teahouse at Brickfair as well. In fact, I think I may have built it too! The elegant peristyle has given this a great start. I'm really looking forward to seeing it progress. About the grass, I usually leave mine studded, but I don't mind tiles. About the kettle, a 1x1 "cheese" slope may work better than that 1x1 cone brick. About the bed, The dark red three-sided slopes takes away from the "clean" look. I suggest only using tiles. And about SNOT, keep in mind that 2:5 plate ratio. If you have any other questions, I'll be here waiting. Quote
LegoLink Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 Thank you, ED-209 and oo7. For the grass I'm covering it up with fallen petals of the cherry tree you'll be seeing soon. As for oo7 yes it was your teahouse; as I said I took almost all of my inspiration from it. The reason I didn't mention you was that I only knew your Flickr "nickname". I'll be posting more pictures soon. Quote
oo7 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 No problem, mate. It's great to learn of your admiration for the aesthetic. You have a flickr account as well? Quote
LegoLink Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 After a trip to the lego store's PAB... Cherry tree! More Pink And More Do I really need to say New tea pot Hey, oo7 not yet on the Flickr and I'm still working on the futon. Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Lookin' good so far. Since it's still a work in progress, and you've only got the floors done...I am curious as to how you will do the walls. Like I said though, keep goin', it's lookin great! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 This is an extraordinary good creation so far, and it is still even a WIP! The courtyard with it's nice tree looks very good! I've never seen a blossom tree before. The rest of the house looks cool too. Nice SNOT floors! Oh and I love that teapot! Quote
Millacol88 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 Nice start you've got there. I love SNOT techniques, even though I never seem to be able to incorporate it successfully into my MOCs. That cherry tree also looks good. How many of those pink flower pieces did you use? Quote
Homer33 Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I love this tree , I've never seen a similar. It's a great beginning Quote
