Zuntir Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Frenzy's vehicle is even worse than the one from impulse set. Nah, I don't like it. Quote
---Vertea--- Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 I saw gold heist at TRU last night and almost got it-I definitely have the cash-but then decided against it. I think I'll wait to see if Frenxy makes another appearance. Or I'll just stick with Bionicle. Quote
Still Raindrop Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 (edited) Frenzy's vehicle is even worse than the one from impulse set. Nah, I don't like it. It doesn't take much to fix it. I replaced the headlights/guns/trans-neon-green 1x1 plates with some small 1x1 fuel canisters (in the style of the "mystery cargo" from the city truck set). That way, it's like a tiny escape scooter that just burns through fuel and joins up with a larger vehicle. Edited June 3, 2009 by Mariko Quote
Darth_Legois Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Looks like a good set from the box but the fact that its so open is crap. I'll probable mod it so its "air tight" even if it means no opening mechanism. Nice review btw, It looks like a good set but yeah I guess thats why LEGO sells is because sets arent perfect, you can always modify them. Quote
Still Raindrop Posted June 10, 2009 Posted June 10, 2009 I've owned this set for about a week now, and it really has been growing on me. If you look past the openness of the cockpit (which was easy enough to do for the older space subthemes), it really is one of the coolest-looking sets. Quote
kaka1987 Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Great review! your review help me alot in deciding which i have to choose. i have to admit the box art looks really attractive~ before i read your review~ i thought this set is sweet~ And....Oops....after hv a look at the side pictures. i am pretty sure i have to rate this set a "POOR". First, the minifigs are not impressed, actually i hate the face of the SP. Second, the alien 's speeder looks really bad and not finished~ i can build a creeeepy one like that as well~ why i need to pay for that? Third, the design of the cockpit are really bad~ those technic pieces are fine~ but it just simply too expose! conclustion: i dont know what 's happening to the design of lego theme in 2009~ City are cool and keeps on high design standard. "First" wave of Powerminers are cool as well ( i know someone hate those color, but the Crystal sweeper is well designed with lot's of stuff can play with). However, it seems that the sets which are going to release after june looks quite poor in average~ ( Second wave Powerminer, Agents, and this SP3 looks really badly design in average ) Quote

I understand that set design might be impacted by the high prices this year (Designers allowed fewer pieces in a set, etc) but still... it would just be nice to have both Quote
CP5670 Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 I've owned this set for about a week now, and it really has been growing on me. If you look past the openness of the cockpit (which was easy enough to do for the older space subthemes), it really is one of the coolest-looking sets. I didn't like it in the old sets either, unless the model was quite small. In fact, the most common modification I make on my space sets is to close up open cockpits. Doing it on this set doesn't really look trivial and would require a substantial redesign of the front part. However, it seems that the sets which are going to release after june looks quite poor in average~ ( Second wave Powerminer, Agents, and this SP3 looks really badly design in average ) SP3's strength is really in its big sets, which are far better than these smaller ones. kboleen Posted June 27, 2012 Posted June 27, 2012 I thoroughly loved this set. I enjoyed putting it together and I believe the green dude is relatively rare. Quote
Puck Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 (edited) Meh...not too sure about getting his set. If so, I wouldn't even build it, I'd just use the pieces to create something better. Great review though! Edited July 2, 2012 by Puck Quote

I agree. Even as a massive fan of Space Police 3, this set was one of the biggest disappointments in some time. It looks great at first glance, but there are a LOT of problems with it. As soon as you see it out of the box, you realize how poor it is. Quote

True story The sides are far from air-tight, the technic beams show too much, and the opening mechanism needed improvement. The minifigs are what sold it for me. Who doesn't want a four armed alien?
