Hobbes Posted November 20, 2005 Posted November 20, 2005 Jesus, look at this! I was bidding but my limit was 35 (which was high anyways), but that's almost as ridiculous as those Blue/Red Coat, Knights or Stormtrooper army auctions... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 21, 2005 Governor Posted November 21, 2005 Jesus, look at this!I was bidding but my limit was 35 (which was high anyways), but that's almost as ridiculous as those Blue/Red Coat, Knights or Stormtrooper army auctions... What's so ridiculous about this? There are 24 mini-figures, 10 horses and 2 cannons all fully accessorised. If each figure fully accesorised was worth 2 Euros that would be 48 Euro If each horse with saddle and was worth 2.5 Euros that would be 25 Euro If each cannon with wheels (plus on with carriage and horse hitching) was worth 3 Euros that would be be 6 Euros Correct me if I'm wrong but you couldn't find all this that cheap on BrickLink. Yes, some places sell the figures cheaper than 2 Euros but bare in mind this doesn't include accessories. Some stores on BrickLink are charging US$4.00 for one figure alone. For the amount of LEGO this action includes I think the price is justified because you won't get it cheaper on BrickLink. The stores that are selling the figures for US$1.50 only have one or two figures. So to amass an army this size you'd need to buy from multiple sellers and that would cost you extra postage for each seller. Quote
Hobbes Posted November 21, 2005 Author Posted November 21, 2005 Oh yeah, now I'm with ya. Actually I was thinkin about moving that auction Hobbes found to a new thread to see if anyone else has any thoughts on it. Where's Hobbes? What's he think of that idea? You're the moderator, "sort" the threads as you see fit. So far you haven't "messed up" anything ;) As for the price of the auction: I find it "overrated". It's just minifigs and "ordinary" accessories. You can find guns in more than the Wild West theme, and you can find horses even in the Town theme. The cannons are kinda special, although they also appear in the Pirates theme, and there's just two. Yes, single MFs would be more expensive - duh. The more a collection of 'em should be cheaper. 61 youroes is definitely too much. That's my $0.02 :) Quote

The more a collection of 'em should be cheaper. 61 youroes is definitely too much. WesternOutlaw Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Loving these figs, I think it's well worth it. - Personally, I'd rather have the sets that they came with though. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 22, 2005 Governor Posted November 22, 2005 But what would be your maximum price for this auction? I find with Imperial Guard and especially Imperial Armada sets there isn't enough mini-figures in the sets. Quote
snefroe Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 i'd buy this for 40$, no problem! you can always buy bricks for your fort whenever it suits you, but getting this large number of minifigs, including two cannons, at once is rare... but i guess it depends on what you want: if you're only interested in collecting the sets and hardly do mocs, then sure, this is not what you're looking for... Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 But if you want a to build HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE armies.... Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Here's one for you. Found this on Brickshelf. It's the most I've seen: Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 Now that is quite an impressive army, The Brickster how much would you value that at? Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 In US Dollars: There's 103 figs in the picture. Frontier Patrol (set 6706) comes with three figs. One would need 35 Frontier Patrol sets to get 103 figs. At a price of $6.99 per set, that comes to $244.65 dollars. That's a unit cost (per fig) of $2.38 which would probably be the cheapest way to purchase this many new. It would also give you 35 black horses. That's about 210 Euro total (2 Euro/fig) -and you wouldn't get the same fig assortment/quantity of each fig as this. I would have to guess the market value which would probably be about double. Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 Jesus, look at this! Would you say that this auction ended at a reasonable price, or is Hobbes right? Quote
Hobbes Posted November 23, 2005 Author Posted November 23, 2005 Would you say that this auction ended at a reasonable price, or is Hobbes right? Don't make me look cheap ;) I've never thought about how much a bunch of look-alikes would cost. I figured it takes a lot of time to collect. So, maybe the auction did end at a reasonable price but for me it's too high. I wouldn't pay that much - then again, I don't collect armies... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 Don't make me look cheap ;) Why not :D Nah, I'm just wondering from the perspective of a Western collector. There is no way I'd even pay 35 Euro for these. So who do you think the real cheap one is ya phony! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 61 Euros Count Sneffy! Is the link to the auction not working or are you just being too lazy to look at it? Quote
snefroe Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 61 Euros Count Sneffy! Is the link to the auction not working or are you just being too lazy to look at it? hm... too lazy... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 You're as bad as me! What do you think of 61 Euros for this auction? Good value or too much? Quote
snefroe Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 well... i've been buying several copies of set 6706 for the last couple of weeks now... for every item i pay 5 Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 Where do you buy your 6706 Frontier Patrol sets from? Quote
Hobbes Posted November 23, 2005 Author Posted November 23, 2005 Where do you buy your 6706 Frontier Patrol sets from? Can't be BrickLink, they start at $15 there... Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 23, 2005 Governor Posted November 23, 2005 Yes, I just looked on BrickLink and they range from US$15-$30. So where is Count Sneffy getting such a good deal? Quote
snefroe Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 it's a general store of which nobody knows... :P it's not on the internet and it only has a few shops in the country. The shop that is closest to my house in the only one of the group that still has these lego sets, to my knoledge. it's called 't Centrum, perhaps Korne may have heard of it. it's generally a rather expensive shop but for some reason, they still have some old sets. until a few months ago they had dozens of old sw sets like the bikes. they're all gone now, i've made sure of that. Most of that ended up in Sweden at Ras74's house. At that point, they also had smaller western, castle (think it's KK1) and rockraiders sets, but that's all gone as well. Prices for all these sets were high: the ep2 starfighter for instance, was between 25-30 Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 24, 2005 Governor Posted November 24, 2005 I can't imagine a store that leaves stock on its shelves for that long where I am. Why can't that happen here! WHYYYYYYYYYY OH WHYYYYYYYYYY!!! This gives me an idea for a new thread... Quote
