Dr. Steve Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Thanks for the great review, The knight is amazing..the queen is a nice minifig too Quote
mania3 Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 I really really enjoyed reading this review, especially when this is one of the better looking castle drawbridge compared to the recent KK2 version. The minifigs array is superb, and there is quite a few exclusive minifigs as well, on the Golden Knight and the Queen. In this case, it's a winner. mania3, I am wondering, if there is a possibility for purchasing two drawbridge and place it back to back from each other, creating a longer path. I am curious. You definitely could connect two. It's just connected as anything else modular is, with the technic pins. So it'd be pretty easy to build a second one and double the length. Quote
bbobb Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 (edited) Thanks for this GREAT review! The minifigures are really detailed and worth waiting for. Can't wait to read your next review on Trolls' Mountain Fortress, definitely another set that's highly anticipated. I haven't got any troll yet, and I am very excited about this set. And the fortress, ah, I just love the idea. Edited May 13, 2009 by bbobb Quote
Sir Wellington Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 If anyone likes pirate Mocs. The Queen's torso is great! I really can't wait to use it for a Moc. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I think his antique looking bronze "gold-ish" armor ~snip His armor and body look to be pearl gold and visor seems to be metallic gold, like the current knights are pearl silver and metallic silver. Quote
ILikePi Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Thanks for the review, mania3! I must say, this set is an amazing deal. Seven minifigs in a $40 set, some of which have lots of printing or are exclusive? That's crazy! If I have some extra money leftover from the other 2009 sets, I'll be sure to get this one. I voted outstanding because of the amazing minifigs. Quote
Dan the Brickman Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 it looks neat! (note, if you use Harly-quin as a jester, you could have several jesters) Quote
randomparrot Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I can't wait to buy that. Good review also. Quote
Lordofdragonss Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 (edited) Hey mania3! When we will get Troll Fortress review? Sorry for asking but I am really curious, how new Trolls looks like! Edited May 15, 2009 by Lordofdragonss Quote
JimBee Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Thanks for the sweet review, mania3. This is a great set, especially with those minifigs. I also love how TLG adds all of those "accessories" to the castles, towers etc.- we haven't seen those brown axes/ halberds in a while. This is probably the only Castle set I'll get this year (besides MMV, of course). Quote
Darth_Legois Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Makes me wonder why I got the Castle Tower Raid. This looks way better! Although I'll probable combine them. As you guys might've noticed I probable only have like 3 posts in this section of the forums but I'm a castle fan, Just not harcore like you guys Anyway I really like the looks of this set and I'll probable get it. I think Castle keeps getting better and better! And this set has great minifigs and the boxart looks good too. And nice review btw. Quote
calebexo01 Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Yes! finally a review of a set i had already decided to get! this set has nice castle pieces and great figs! the gold knight is amazing! the fact that TLG actually bothered to give him a printed torso with a new print shows a great level of detail. i already have the jester minifig from the calender but i like that this one has a double sided face when i get this set i am going add it to my giant kings castle siege MOC. great review! random question`because i am ignorant: are these sets avalible in all LEGO Stores or just LEGOLAND? Quote
slope65 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Amazing female Mini-figure. I'm so glad they are printing the back of torsos now. Quote
TLV Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 it looks like this is gonna be as good as the tower raid set. plenty of useful parts, plus unique minifigs. My only wish was that they included orcs instead of skellies. skeletons have been phased out long ago. Quote
ED-209 Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 ZOMG, I love it! The building is quite nice but it's the figures that seal the deal for me! I think that I actually prefer the look of the golden knight without the armour over the top - it's just such a gorgeous torso. Reminds me a lot of Charles the First's armour: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3488/318043...4ba8133.jpg?v=0 Quote
*Jerry Man* Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Does anyone know when this set will be released in AUS? Because This review has made me decide to now get money out of my bank and buy this wonderful set. Quote
Batbrick Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Great review mania3, you are truly becoming one of our best! Love this set so much, the figs are fantastic, I'm so glad there is seven, and I'm glad they brought back the skellies, I can never have enough of those. Plus, the hooded caped reaper skeleton looks really neat, and another horse is always appreciated. The real gold is in the Crown ranks though. I'm ever so pleased to get a jester since I missed out on the Castle Advent Calender. His double sided face is hilarious. The Queen is also brilliant, I like the hair pin and hair piece, and her double sided face is great too. The soldier is nice to have also, but the real gold (get it?) is the Gold Knight, a sweet fig if I ever saw one. His printing is really good too. The actual set I really like too, apart from those oh-so-accurate flick fire missiles. How are the minifigs supposed to use those? Kick them? It certainly comes with nice pieces and a good construction anyway, so this is easily a must-by for me. Thanks again! Batbrick Away! Quote
gogobig Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Mania, what a great review mate. Mad props for you. This is a must have set for me; I like the design of it and the minifigs are fantastic. Looking forward for Troll Fortress review. Quote
supertoad64 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 (edited) Can't wait to get this set after seeing all the awesome figs! The current castle line is totally spoiling us with all these great female figs! Edited December 30, 2009 by supertoad64 Quote
Perterz Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Woot I've assembled mine! I've to say that it was even better than I thought, perfect parts, epic minifigs. I'm buying me a second one for the heck of it later.. Quote
KristofBD Posted June 21, 2009 Posted June 21, 2009 I just bought the set and loved it. Some minor negative points though: * the symmetry: everything is perfectly symmetric (e.g. the plants and rocky pieces), but that makes the set a little artificial. * the first/second floor where the queen is, is quite small due to the drawbridge mechanism. Additionally, the mechanism didn't really work well - so I took it out. * the ground floor where the golden knight is, is built with just a few very large pieces, and is a little shaky. However, some parts are even better than I expected when I saw the review here: *the minifigs (queen and golden knight) are even better designed than I thought. The golden knight is that well designed that I don't use the armour - he looks even better without it! * When you remove the technic mechanism part, the first/second floor is wide and can be used to transform into a genuine 'queen's room'. * I love the front of the tower. I ordered my set along with an extra tower raid set. The tower pieces were well suited to 'pimp' the drawbridge. So all in all: it's a great set, with some room for improvement, but that can easily be fixed! K. Quote
HumanPackMule Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Awesome set, just one problem. Why does the skeleton have a spear? It can't be posed well with it. Quote
Nikola Bathory Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Very good review! As for the set - I voted "above average", I like it a lot. I just received this set as a gift from my girlfriend. It took me 65 minutes to build. There is a very good number of minifigs included, among them the king, queen and jester. Also, plenty of weapons. I really like it, I prefer when there is some sort of "base" to defend and attack, I've always liked it better this way, makes it much more interesting! Quote
Zorbas Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 I had never seen this review. Excellent review mania3! Now I feel much happier for my decision of buying it yesterday! Great set! What's there not to love? Absolutely amazing minifigs and a very nice castle building! This is my very first castle purchase apart from 3 impulses and my choice was bingo! My recommendation? Even if you're not a castle set collector (like me), buy it! Quote
