JINZONINGEN73 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 did you guys see the corner of the grey baseplate of the hospital? No studs! never seen that before... I'm wondering if that adds structural integrity to the plate... like, if you look at all the damaged baseplates that they sell on Bricklink, the breaks are usually on the edges, going around studs. Maybe not putting studs there, you can beat the crap out of the plate and not have the edges crumple. Kids are pretty rough with them. And when those edges DO break off, it's a mighty sharp edge to cut ya' with. Yeah... definitely structural integrity. Quote
SuvieD Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Less plastic, easier to design, easier to mold = less cost. Maybe for better structure but LEGO is looking for cost saving measures more than quality these days. Quote

Probably. The more I think about it, the more it seems that studs there would INCREASE the strength. So looking for an alternate reason... someone has to use more / larger bricks to cover a wider distance from each corner? Quote
