Captain REX Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Heres a tip for all of you Ps3 owners, make sure you all of your fans are free, you can do this By standing it on its side. Quote
Eilif Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Best one is the N64. I play it all the time, even more than the modern ones. I even like it more. I'm with you on this. I like the n64 games, and it's nice finding games for a buck at the resale shop. Plus, since it's all cartridge based there's no worries about scratched disks. Now if only I could find a copy of Mario64 that wasn't uber expensive! Quote
DarthSion Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Fans free?. Scratching disks, do you have small children around you?. I have never scratched a blu-ray disk ever, or ps2 disk, thats also why eb games have 5 bucks scratch warranty. Quote
Captain REX Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Fans free?. Yes if your fans or vents are against a wall, or up against something then the fans or vents wont have space to let air out. This causes an overheat sometimes which can lead to- the red flashing light of death. Quote
Lasse D Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I bought a Wii at release, bought a lot of classic games, got tired of it and gave it away after finally realizing that I always ended up playing PS2 instead: Equal graphics, no battery fiddling, better games and easier to use. The PS3 is a real bargain IMO. If you want a good BluRay 2.0 player, it will cost you at least 2/3 of a PS3. Free on-line is a bonus and the on-line experience is finally beginning to match the competitor, removing the final doubt I had against that console. Now I just need some time to play on the damn thing. Quote
Satellite Jack Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I played rock, paper, scissors with my friend to ultimately decide what to get. PS3 it is. I know of Ratchet and Clank, but never really played it/ saw the gameplay. I just saw a few trailers. I'll look into it. And I believe Killzone is for the PS3, right? That looks interesting. Quote
DoctorDude234 Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 Maybe Microsoft should offer RROD insurance. (That's Red Ring Of Death.) Quote

Peppermint_M Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I have a DS Lite and my brother has a Wii. I love my DS, but not the DSi because I still play some Advanced games and do not wish to lose the choice to play them (gave my SP away after I got my DS lite). I have a few less "casual" titles for my DS, but with everything but Pokemon I am a casual gamer (gotta catch 'em all... MUST catch ever single one... all of them *cuckoo*) plus anything that lets me play Mahjong on the go is great. The Wii is a bit...meh. I dont like to use the motion sensor controller myself, I use my gamecube one on the three games I play, Super Smash Bro's Brawl, Mario Kart and Soul Caliber III, and I dont really want any games that don't use the Wiimote (apart from House of the Dead, I love using the Wiimote as a gun in an accurate-ish gun shaped extra...beware). I liked PS2, I play a great co-op but not so fond of single player, though I do try Final Fantasy. I still yearn for a Dreamcast as a hold over from I was young (I was 11, they sponsored my favourite football team and they looked so awesome with their internet connection). Quote
Eilif Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Scratching disks, do you have small children around you?.I have never scratched a blu-ray disk ever, or ps2 disk, thats also why eb games have 5 bucks scratch warranty. Video gaming isn't a big part of my life, so I pretty much buy used games, usually for less than 5 bucks. I have a PS2 that I was given so my wife could play Guitar hero, And over time, I'll probably pick up some second hand games for it, but for me it's N64. One question for those in the know. My PS2 takes FOREVER to load. Once the game starts, it works fine, but what can I do to make it work as it should? Quote
DarthSion Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Jack, ( wasnt that in two and a half men.), why dont you go to blockbuster and rent ratchet and clank, but you could just buy it, R&C are the best games ever made, there is also quest for booty the 2nd in the trilogy (after tools of destructions) and coming fall is a crack in time the final part. And its Killzone 2, killzone is for ps2, and 3 will be for ps3, its an exclusive. Eilif, it probably doesnt take forever, your just used to nintendos fast load times (because there is nothing to load). Quote
Captain REX Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I haven't actually got rachet and clank or killzone. but i did play RnC at a freinds house and i loved it! once my PS3 arrives tommorow the next game i will get is LOTR Conquest. Yes i know all the reviews say its not that good, but i liked battlefront and im an LOTR fan so this game should be good for me. Plus its bad reviews seem to have got its price down! Quote
Rijkvv Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I have a DS Lite and a notebook. If I ever buy a new computer, I don't buy a console, but a desktop. Or, if mine's broken, a new notebook. If I have to buy a console, I think it would be the Xbox 360 Elite. At least not the Wii. Nice to move with your legs and arms, but I think besides of that it's no match for the 360 and PS3. Quote
Eilif Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Eilif, it probably doesnt take forever, your just used to nintendos fast load times (because there is nothing to load). Nope, it takes forever. I have a PS1 (I wanted an extra controler for the PS2, and the whole system was 8 bucks) and it loads up games in a number of seconds, whereas the PS2 sometimes takes more than 2-3 minutes from the time I put the disk in before the game will start up. I think it's a console thing, because all 4 of the PS2 games I have take a long time to load. That said, I'm not sure if it's hardware or software issue. Can the operating system of a PS2 be updated? Anyone, help??? Quote
DarthSion Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 You can update it, but unless you know what your doing you could make things worse. Judging buy what you said the problem is its old and dying. Why not just buy a new one, you Americans just got a price drop, the ps2 brand new is only $100US. Quote
Mapcinq Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I have and XBox 360, however it doesnt work anymore ( red ring of death). I have played PS3 and Wii, but the 360 is still my favourite. However, I have given up on consoles now and invested in a desktop... Quote
Eilif Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 (edited) You can update it, but unless you know what your doing you could make things worse.Judging buy what you said the problem is its old and dying. Why not just buy a new one, you Americans just got a price drop, the ps2 brand new is only $100US. Mostly because I'm cheap. It was given to us 2nd hand, and if I get ahold of 100 bucks, it's likely going to LEGO instead of video games. As long as the games load eventually, I'll probably just let it limp along until it dies. Edited May 5, 2009 by Eilif Quote
Satellite Jack Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 (edited) Yea, Killzone 2 is what I meant. Would you guys recommend it? It seems really good from what I read. EDIT: Oh yea, my name is from Two and a Half Men... funny show Edited May 5, 2009 by Satellite Jack Quote
DarthSion Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Well thats what it is, the ps2 is dying. Anyway back to the topic of current gen consoles. Yeah Killzone 2 is pretty good, i personally recommend the 2 ratchet and clank games, very fun and funny games, with good story, helps if you have played the 4 ps2 games in the series but not important, you just wont get the ending. I also recommend the force unleashed it is spectacular on the ps3 and soul calibur 4. Quote
5150 Lego Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 If anyoen isinto racing games, I recomend Grid for the 360. Great detail and good simulator. Quote
Captain REX Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Im annoyed at Sony, they said my Ps3 would come today, it hasnt come between the hours i was told. They told me on the phone that there was a mix up with the address and it would come on friday. Plus i dont get my memory back (can you remove the internal memory cards?) so its going to take at least a month of total time, Just to complete my Ps3 games. And i also have to complete my Ps2 games again! Quote
DarthSion Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 There is no such thing as internal memory cards for the ps3, game saves for the ps2 are saved to hard drive. From what you said it over heated, if it just did the fan in then it wont be a problem, but it more than likely fried your hard drive in which case all your ps2 ps3 saves, dlc, anything you had on there will most likely be gone, unless sony was able to save the data and transfer to the new hard drive. Oh and while we are on it, free fans still would have stopped this from happening to you, its also because you kept playing it while it was too hot, the ps3 makes several noises, a quite hum when idle a louder hum during games, and then a real loud noise when over heated, which is ironic aren't you UK. kill will Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Well, I have a PS2, PSP, Xbox, and an Xbox 360. The Xbox I got used, (I only got it for Halo) and after about 6 months it wouldn't recognize the discs. My PS2 and PSP still work fine, but I did buy them new. I just bought a 360, and I love it. Gamerscore is nice, it's kind of a pride thing, and you get a sense of accomplishment. The graphics are wonderful, for example, I have all the Lego games for the PS2, and I rented Indy for 360, and it has more texture and more defined figures. Xbox LIVE is 50$ a year, and well worth it in my opinion. I think microsoft points are stupid, just use real currency like PSN. And there are so many good games for it, for example GTAIV, Halo 3, Gears of war, Left 4 Dead, and many more. Several of my friends have Wiis, and I do not like them. The graphics are worse than the PS2, and the motion control is anything but accurate. Plus, almost all of the games are family friendly, and not good for a hardcore gamer. I've never played a PS3, so I can't say anything about it. Quote
