Oky Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 aw... 5 seems like another version of nine in that description. How so? 9 always seems to follow his own mind whereas 5 follows others he trusts. I wonder what leads him to be more cautious later... Isn't it obvious? I bet he puts his trust into the wrong person (or, more likely, a machine) at some point and looses his eye as a result and starts becoming paranoid. And it seems we will get to see him lose his eye after all- I always wondered whether or not that was him in the trailer. I doubt it. I think he will have the eyepatch by the time we are introduced to him in the movie. That translated video makes 3 and 4 so cute and awesome. =3They, along with 6, are my favourites. :D I absolutely agree. Do you think they are supposed to be girls? They look feminine to me. Quote
Bfahome Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Do you think they are supposed to be girls? They look feminine to me. They seem more like kids to me. Of course, everyone seems to refer to them as "they" so there's no gender specified. And without voices… Quote
5150 Lego Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 OK, can someone please explain what I've been watching for the last 10 minutes? Rag dolls with numbers running around in a trash dump trying to hide from a mechanical creature of some sort with a cat skull for a head? Is this post apocalyptic or something? Not trying to offend those that liked this, but i don't see how this of all things was Oscar nominated or what is so thrilling about it. Can someone please explain? Quote
Oky Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Well, you're mostly correct. This movie takes place in an alternate universe where after WW1, a scientist has created a form of artificial intelligence which gets stolen and misused by an authoritarian man called "The Chancellor". He turns it into a Fabrication Machine which creates war machines, and which eventually turns against the humans, killing everybody. But in the last days of humanity, the scientist uses alchemy to transfer his soul into the bodies of 9 ragdolls which he hopes will right the wrongs that have been done. The movie is about the struggle of these 9 ragdolls, especially the ninth one, to fight the machines and save man kind. If that's not your cup of tea, that's too bad, since this seems to be a good movie with a interesting story and lovable characters. Quote

Oky Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Suit yourself. Oh, and I forgot to mention that what makes this so innovative is partly the new art style: Stitchpunk! Quote
Lepaka Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 I think 3 and 4 are females. If it turns out they're guys, I'd be like "Waaht?" But I honestly don't think it'll be said in the movie. Also, I'm not sure if anybody else noticed, but the Chancellor's dead. =/ He got what he deserved, though. Quote
Bfahome Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 and save man kind uh I think it's a little late for that. Anyway, I think I understand what the Talisman does. It sucks out a little bit of the soul of whoever it's aimed towards and channels it through the three prongs in the back (or just the back, w/e). The Scientist used it in his "transfer device" (in the center) to suck out some of his soul and put it into the 9 dolls. The Fabrication Machine sucks out the dolls' souls (to help power itself?), but since they're smaller and don't have a soul as large as a human's, it's fatal to them. This may also explain how the Scientist dies. So far, he's put some of his soul into each doll, and has been able to interact with them. However, it seems that 9 is introduced to him through a hologram. I think this is because 9 took the last of his soul, and he died. Just some thoughts. Quote
Oky Posted August 27, 2009 Posted August 27, 2009 uh I think it's a little late for that. Or so it may seem. I had read somewhere that they manage it somehow, but I might have misinterpreted that. So far, he's put some of his soul into each doll, and has been able to interact with them. However, it seems that 9 is introduced to him through a hologram. I think this is because 9 took the last of his soul, and he died. Yeah. He probably realized that he had barely any soul left by the time he was building 9, so he recorded what he wanted to tell 9 before he gave him his last bit of soul. I have been seeing some cool commercials for this movie on TV lately and am getting pretty excited to see it. Only two more weeks! On a side note, I wish the scientist would have explained why he made 3 & 4 twins. To help them record history more efficiently? To make sure that the memories of the past wont get lost even if something happens to one of them? Or all of the above? I don't get it. Quote

He said "screw it I'm too old for this" and grabbed a pair of gloves and made them the same. Also, wouldn't it be kinda interesting if he had intended to make 10 dolls, but only had enough soul for 9? I mean, he could have been trying to put a tenth of his soul into each one, but it didn't work out and he ended up with less than two tenths left, but slightly more than one tenth, so 9 has more soul than the rest of them. yeesh I'm getting waaay too into this <_> Quote
5150 Lego Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Ok. So, i've seen a couple previews for this movie, and i have to say they look alot better than the you tube clips. Also, after talking to my niece who loves these types of movies, it seems this movie is going to be alot darker and a bit more adult than some of the previews are leading many to believe. I might just go see this after all. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 Please, is there any news on it's UK release date? My father reckons that he has seen somthing of it advertised somewhere, but he may have just confused it with something else. The internet isn't really helping (all I found was a huge pile of animated feature films that bombed so bad on their US release that we never got to see them in the UK...). So any ideas? Quote

Lepaka Posted August 28, 2009 Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) This. Notice the rag doll lying in the corner? It's 1. Look in the corner of this one as well.. Edited August 28, 2009 by Lepaka Quote

Ponyo (the new Ghibli film) isn't out until April 2010 here, so at least 9 is only about the usual... Quote
