Clone OPatra Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Seeing all of the amazing photos of Minifigures taken by Smokebelch (I urge you to look at them here), I was inspired to go snap some of my own. The lighting and overall composure of the shots is not nearly as good as his, but I thought I'd give it a go. This scene is entitled: Lost Troopers Two troopers seem to be separated from their squad on a jungle planet, and they don't even have blasters! And from above: How do you like my first attempt? (If I take nay more, I'll just make a new post in this thread) And again, all the credit of inspiration goes to Smokebelch! Check out his pictures if you have not already! Quote
Hewman Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I like the second photo best, the trees look good. I'm definitely not an expert but maybe a little more action type posing of the minifigs would add to the pics. Quote
Future74 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Great quality on both of them! I'm wondering who/what is looking down the trees (maybe an idea for the next picture) Quote
smokebelch Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Very cool- I heartily endorse this tread And thanks for the bigup Clone O'Patra Really really like your first shots- and really great angle on the second one - you get a really cool sense of scale with the tree trunks- though just as an idea sometimes if you move away leaves etc on the ground it can make the minifigs look even more lifesize. But its a great first attempt- i think the key thing is to just have fun, and enjoy taking your shots- I've only been taking mine for a couple of years, but the best way to learn is to just do it. If i were to offer any advice id just say take a whole LOAD of shots when your shooting- you'll often find the best angle composition can sometimes be a complete fluke- happens a lot with my shots! The other thing is give your shots a quick edit in a photo editing package. I never used to do anything with mine, but youd be suprised how a quick edit can really give your shots a boost. All i ever do on mine now is to boost the contrast slightly and sometimes drop the brightness a notch. Most basic photo editing software will let you so that- you dont need photoshop etc.. It can sometimes really give your shots a much more cinematic feel, and is really quick and easy to do. I started taking shots of my toys after being inspired by Brian McCarty's shots of Vinyl art toys- have a look here- Brian McCarty's Flickr Page His stuff is amazing, so so cool. I just wanted to have a go at creating some shots that look as good as his, think i've gotten better with time, and i just really enjoy doing it Very cool to think i've inspired someone to take photo's of their stuff! And keep them coming I want to see more! Quote
