SuvieD Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 I am in need of some financial gain due to a very bad situation. I would rather not sell many of the parts and figures I have spent so much time collecting. So, I have decided to sell some custom sets I am in the process of planning. But I need your help. I would like to sell things people would want to buy and I need opinions on what will sell best. I will be making small sets that would sell for $20 or less. If you have a minute let me know what you think about some questions. How many minifigures should be included per every $5 a set costs? What price per piece is considered a good buy? What condition do the parts have to be in to be considered/desired (obviously not all parts will be in mint/new condition)? Castle, mecha or space which should I pursue? Are instructions a must or should I try something like an x-pod style?
Vader Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Hmmm thats a hard question to answer, i think it would be best if you were to show what sets you have and then that way we could advise you better on what price to ask. Im also quite sure that by showing the sets that you would also get offers for them.
SuvieD Posted November 7, 2005 Author Posted November 7, 2005 Well, I am actually basing what i would make off of the feedback I get from here. I will post pictures later today of a few small sets I have made to give a general idea of what I am looking to do.
snefroe Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 hm... all very difficult questions... wouldn't you be better off by selling all the parts and MF's at ebay?
Zane Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 Could try making lots of little castle/other theme models, so people feel an urge to collect them all.
SuvieD Posted November 7, 2005 Author Posted November 7, 2005 hm... all very difficult questions...wouldn't you be better off by selling all the parts and MF's at ebay? I am not to happy with ebay at the moment. I would rather not use ebay. *sick* Though I may have to. :'(
jonfett Posted November 7, 2005 Posted November 7, 2005 How many minifigures should be included per every $5 a set costs? I'd say 0.5 ;) .. or 1 for every $10. What price per piece is considered a good buy? Perhaps $1 for every 10 parts. What condition do the parts have to be in to be considered/desired (obviously not all parts will be in mint/new condition)? Useable, not mint but fairly good and in a not-too-used condition. Castle, mecha or space which should I pursue? Try some models of each, or go for the two most popular. I would love to see Castle and Mecha personally. Are instructions a must or should I try something like an x-pod style? Maybe a main model instructions sheet and then pictures for ideas of alternate models, so yeah.. sorta like X-pod. Good luck with the sets SuvieD, and remember that there are tonnes of members here willing to buy sets and help you out ;) Jon.
SuvieD Posted November 8, 2005 Author Posted November 8, 2005 Okay, I have four or five sets in the stlye of what I am thinking built. I ended up getting my space stuff ready to sell last night so I didn't get pictures. I will get those tonight and then you can all see what I am thinking of.
SuvieD Posted November 9, 2005 Author Posted November 9, 2005 Here is an example of what a castle cart I would sell would look like. I would probably use 2 minifigures and the driver would have a whip.
SuvieD Posted November 9, 2005 Author Posted November 9, 2005 Here is an example of what a castle market stall I would sell would look like. I would probably use 2 minifigures and the salesman would have some wares.
SuvieD Posted November 9, 2005 Author Posted November 9, 2005 Here is an example of what a space ship I would sell would look like. I would probably use 2 minifigures the other would be at a small radar station.
SuvieD Posted November 9, 2005 Author Posted November 9, 2005 Here is an example of what a micro ship set I would sell would look like. I would probably use only 2 micro ships and each would be a different design/color scheme. How many micro ships should be included per every $5 a set costs? What price per piece is considered a good buy? What condition do the parts have to be in to be considered/desired (obviously not all parts will be in mint/new condition)? Are instructions a must or should I try something like an x-pod style?
SuvieD Posted November 9, 2005 Author Posted November 9, 2005 No one has any insight? You can be brutal. I know the pictures are a little dark. Is there any interest in something like these? Would mecha do better? Would people be willing to spend more or less? What about custom requests, is there something specific you would like to see?
MattZitron Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Ok, I like the sets. I think for $5 one minifig is ok as long as there are alot of parts. If you can get 2 in, they'd sell better. Instructions might be nice, especially the cool space and castle sets. The miniprobe set, could be X-Pod like. As for part condition, as long as they aren't completely ruined you should be ok. I think if you use whites, faded/yellowing parts are a no-no. But as long as they're free of teeth marks, and look ok, you'll be fine.
languages Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 I really like the marketplace set...I wouldnt mind purchasing one....
