nice idea - i plan to moc my guns up for 2 of the decks also, but will probably make them a little more realistic than that....maybe

mine seems quite stable with the way it is what i did was where there is the black bricks i used 3 plates intstead of a brick and wove them into eachother and then placed the yellow bricks on the gaps for added strength

yep i am - i'm originally from the Isle of Wight - near Portsmouth/Southamptn - so i have seen HMS Victory and HMS Warrior from a far, but never looked round them (yet)

I now live in South Wales

Where abouts do you hail from??

Matt

I live in Surrey, Sutton.

I will go see the HMS Victory soon, My friends dont appreciate Lego and Nautical stuff as I do. My friend Dominic said "Yeah, My dad took me to this big ship, Yellow and black it was" I said "HMS Victory?" "Yeah yeah, something like that, it was soooo boring".

I dont get other kids nowheredays...

Well one collects stamps, the other coins, we build with Lego. Everybody what he or she likes ey?

Have you never visited the Victory Joey?

I'd be going 2 times a year if i was living that close :pir_laugh2:

I think it will be a great source of inspiration to you.

Thats quite true.

But thats 1hour 20mins drive!

Only when you drive at the speed limit.... :pir-grin:

Very Smart!

But seriously, I want to go there, Since I saw this model ship you could get, It has working lights in the stern. Only problem is when I try get the pictures, it says Dynamic IMG tags arent allowed, However I have written it all correct... :pir-sceptic:

That is true, it just won't work :pir-hmpf_bad:

Don't say that too fast :pir-tongue: You might be surprised somewhere in the future :pir-wink:

Nice ship so far Joey! It looks very promising.

A thing which might be handy:

Last time I was looking at some ship plans, measuring and so on, and I figured out by the most ships the width of the stern fits 6 times in the length of the ship.

Now get building on this beauty!

That's a good tip however it's better to see if the largest width of your ship fits 4 times in the total length. Pretty much impossible on prefabs though so don't mind this comment :pir-tongue:

Joey as for your new project. I think it's a great idea to do a three-decker on prefabs. It seems you and the captain have already discussed a lot about it. The final version looks good however I feel that you should go with the 2-brick high slopes. Otherwise your hull will be way too high.

Or you could just add another midsection or so. Just a suggestion though :pir-wink:

Looking forward to seeing more of this project.

Greetings,

Errorist

I'm making a ship like this using slopes, it has 52 cannons, 2 decks and crew of 20. But my colour scheme is an early British ship it uses black and brown. I hope this warship ends up looking like you imagined it to be. My ship the HMS Sirius is still a WIP but still is very big.btw how many midsections do you plan to use?

I may have to put my ship building on halt for a while, Since I will most proberbly only get around to ordering the bits and bobs after my Work Experience, I have it for 2 weeks, But hopefully I could actually get them ordered during. I mean I did get some high scores in my exams :pir_laugh2:

But looking at what I thought up, 7-8 will do it, However I have 2 or 3 already lying about but since the new Reddish Brown hulls are much cheaper than Old Brown, Ill buy the new Brickbeards bounty bow/sterns.

I need to work on stability. I dont want it to wobbly and unstable, Cause I get steaming when my lego breaks... :pir-blush: But I was thinking of using this technique:

So I could easily clip off the decks in case of Interior, Cannon building and repairs. However my cannons will just be this:

For now...

Hello fella

Hope it's going well

I've just stripped mine back to the bottom gun deck, i'm now using a modified version of your hull profile for mine as well - to give the tumblehome that it should really have

i got slopes in black to mock up with whilst i wait for the proper colours to turn up

Have also been watching some hornblower to get an idea of attire for my crew

Back to the TV ;)

Wow, I didnt realise my techniques were that used... :pir_laugh2:

Everyone seems to be doing a British Ship! Huzzah! We will crush Black Hairs Prins Williem and the Frenchy ships! :pir-vader:

Your idea was along the lines of what i thought i needed - i planned to mess around with those sloped bricks to try to get the right shape, but as soon as i saw your diagrams i knew that you'd hit the nail on the head

Hope you dont mind me using your idea - albeit slightly changed

I'll lose some upper deck width - not a lot though

But will gain some deck head height - which could come in handy

Need to rework my support strut spacing now lol

I look forward to seeing some updates mate

With three decks, I worked it out to be a 12 across deck. Bigger than expected! And it has actually worked Cough Cough*General Armendariz* Cough *Captain Weedhair*...Man I must have a cold coming... :pir-grin:

Also, Of course you can use it, Its not really my exact Idea, Plenty have proberbly had it.

Dear Joey,

Looking good so far. I'm curious how the hight versus width and lenght will work out. In my humble experience the heigth of the mid section should not exceed the maximum width of the mid section for it too "look good". Of course the stern and forecastle can be higher. And as Errorist says the rule of thumb for length is: length of the hull is 4 times the maximum with. But of course you can stretch those general rules somewhat and still achieve a great looking result.

*Captain Weedhair* ? Man, I should have known there was something funky going on there. :pir-tongue:

Kind regards,

Teddy

I think it's an amazing piece of work! The galleries look very realistic.

I'm curious about how you are planning to make the stern and the bow...

Keep it up!

Well heres each design:

I'd recommend to place the large mast and the small mast at the stern (don't know the English term) a bit more backwards.

The rest of the project is stunning so far! Keep this wonderful build up.

That looks very good! and very big :pir_laugh2: Are you going to build this in real? I hope this large thing won't fall apart then. good luck with the rest of this ship!

if he builds it like mine then it will be solid already - i pick mine up all the time and it's fine - even with the hull sections missing - so once all the decks and bracing are in it'll be like one piece of lego :pir-classic:
