wooootles Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg. Nice, thanks. I just hope I get to stop by that mall! :skull: Quote
lowbike1 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Bumping an old thread with my first PAB cup! I think I did okay. This was at the store in Bellevue, WA. I love that they had basic light blue pieces, because now I don't feel like I missed out not getting Market Street! I also love that they had 2 colors of flower sprue. I was kind of disappointed by the lack of tiles, though, and no 'dark' colors except dark gray 1x1 bricks. That said, I had a good time and I'm pretty happy with my haul. I'm going to this store in a couple weeks, (I've planned a romantic weekend away with the wife that just happens to revolve around us visiting the lego store...) was the staff cool with you taking your time to fill it full? sounds like most stores are but thought I'd check Quote

And one staff member actually encouraged another customer to do it like me because then he would get more... I think that answers your question. Quote
brickme Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Oh boy, Well Dannylonglegs helped me pack a cup and wow. That thing was not going to close. 26 dark bley 1x3 bricks 61 white 1x1x5 bricks 8 green 1x3 bricks 24 light bley 1x6 arches 5 green plants 24 brown 1x4 bricks 16 trans green cones 5 light bley antennas 32 clear 1x2 plates (and a whole small cup filled with them, thanks danny!) 41 trans light green gems 13 black 1x4 "bar" fence 15 black "grill fence" 12 black 1x8 tiles 11 white hanging 1x4 29 trans yellow stud 92 pink flowers (divide by four to figure out how many spures) 144 brown 1x2 plates 37 black 1x2 roof corners 1 white panel(don't know how that got in) 10 balck 2x2 axels 22 wheels total 628 pieces = 0.02388 cents per piece. Not the record but not bad either. Also if you go to the king of prussia the big tall guy with small mustache does NOT appreciate non-closing cups. leg godt, brickme Quote

Yeah it's pretty cool, the staff at the Bellevue store are some of the friendliest people you would ever want to meet. Quote
Sid Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) I drove 5 hours this past weekend just for the PAB, and "free shipping" I stacked all the bricks, or most anyway. I was the only one doing this by the way, and the store was packed (downtown disney). I asked if the cups had to fully close and the staff said that as long as the top was no more than an ~half inch above the cup, it was ok because they taped it anyway. I didn't take detailed pictures and I surely did not count my pieces but I'm happy with what I got, just wished they had more plates / tiles. Picked up a few sets, I know the bigger set is "overpriced" but after building my first one I can see why it is expensive, the engineering that went into the set is incredible. prateek Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 snip Nice haul! I see you got all the sets on your list Quote
Sid Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) Nice haul! I see you got all the sets on your list Haha, good eye AND memory! I just could not pass up on the dropship. And after finishing building the first one this past weekend I am very glad I picked up a second. Edited March 17, 2010 by Sid Quote
FilmGirl27 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I'm going to LEGOLAND Windsor later this year, and am going to completely raid the Pick a Brick section I've never been to a LEGO Shop before, how much of a variaty is there (minifig parts)? Quote

In the PAB there are no minifig parts. There's a section where you can build 3 minifigs for $10 though. Quote

Eilif Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 The build-a-minifig selection changes often. Sometimes the pieces are very common, and not worth 10 bucks for 3, other times there are some rare figs in there. I recently found some female pirate and governor's daughter torsos, and some dark red agent Trace hair. You are allowed 5 pieces per fig, so one good trick is to choose the rarest 5 pieces regardless of whether they make a complete fig or not. I've done this often, and even when I build complete minifigs, I rarely give them an accessory, usually I instead take an extra hair piece. Quote
FinalFeature Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 There are some stores that will allow you to choose 15 pieces of anything from a minifigure wall. Lately the glendale, Ca Lego store and some others lego stores i have been to have a very plain selection of figures. Back in june 2009 the lego store had lots of Licensed minifigure pieces but now its mostly farmers and construction workers. Quote
Eskallon Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Well in the U.K they are £1.25 or like £3 for 3 of them. The selection varies and I know it can be ok as once in the MK store they had pirate figures but my parents said only 1 fig as Id already bought a bit too much. Quote

Sometimes the pieces are very common, and not worth 10 bucks for 3, other times there are some rare figs in there. I recently found some female pirate and governor's daughter torsos, and some dark red agent Trace hair. Same here. I also got that sweet dark blue flannel shirt torso and the rugged-looking grey-bearded head w/ a scar over the eye. You are allowed 5 pieces per fig, so one good trick is to choose the rarest 5 pieces regardless of whether they make a complete fig or not. I've done this often, and even when I build complete minifigs, I rarely give them an accessory, usually I instead take an extra hair piece. You're allowed to do that? On the Build-A-Fig tables and packages, it says in big letters to only have one of each part for each fig. In other words, one hairpiece, one head, one torso, one pair of legs, and one accessory. I was afraid I'd get in trouble for doing otherwise. Quote
Oky Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Why would you get in trouble for that? Worst case scenario would be that they wont let you buy it and ask you to exchange the part. There's no harm in trying. Anyway, I filled up my holiday PAB box recently. Due to its square shape, it was much easier to fill up than a cup. I got a bunch of arches and some lime green and dark grey bricks. I might post a pic of it soon. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 When I went to the Mall of America LEGO Store a few years ago, they wouldn't let me have more than 1 of each part. Very stupid if you ask me, especially if they only have basketball spring legs as they did that time. Quote
Sid Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I didn't bother to see what the minifig section had, it was surrounded by little kids and their parents. I'll just have to order from BL or through the online PAB. I did notice a lot of Harry [Potter] heads though. Quote
Legoman Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Im going to LA in just over a month. So I'm really hoping for nice selection of peices in their PAB. I'll defo make the most of it ;) I've set aside a couple of hundred $ just for the PAB Quote

petero Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 I live about an hour and a half north of Boston, which has three Lego stores. So far, I have only visited the Burlington Mall store. Can someone who's been to all three tell me if the PAB walls in the three stores are the same? That is, do they usually have about the same pieces at any given time, or is it more random? When I visited the Burlington store after Christmas, the PAB selection didn't seem very good to me, but I was just becoming an AFOL, so I was 98% clueless . Now that I've got some great tips for filling cups, I can't wait to go back! Thanks! Peter Quote
Whittleberry Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 I'm going to LEGOLAND Windsor later this year, and am going to completely raid the Pick a Brick section I've never been to a LEGO Shop before, how much of a variaty is there (minifig parts)? Keep in mind that at the LEGOLAND parks the PAB is based on weight, and is apparently rather expensive compared to a LEGO Store PAB. I think there's a better variety though. But if you're in London, pop down to the Bluewater LEGO Store because they have a big PAB wall there, which was stocked with nice pieces when I visited at the start of the year. The store manager told me that they actively try to stock interesting elements in their wall, but I don't know really how much control they have over what LEGO ships them. Also, I didn't build any figs, but I found a turkey in the build a fig section! Now that would be a nice accessory Quote
