I've never been great at building my own stuff, the main reason I love LEGO is the models you get to build with the instructions. One thing I always disliked about city-related sets was the cars: they never had two seats. But then, in 2002, a nice little set called 4728 Escape from Privet Drive introduced a car that had ample room for two minifigures. A few years later, I decided to build more cars from the same instructions, but modify them slightly and choose a color scheme that suited their purpose.

So you tell me, if I'm using official instructions, but building with my own pieces and modifying, is that a MOD, a MOC, or a MOD-C (Modified Creation)?

Here are the cars with minifigures (although you can't see them very well). From left to right: the original HP car with Chinese gangsters (and my own gun design from broken technic); a all-out gangster car with other gangsters; and a classy convertible with an "innocent" businessman (you'll understand the quotations later).

Now all three without minifigs from above. The all-out gangster car has a raised seat for the passenger so that he can fire a gun better. I know the seat area in the convertible looks like a black void, but it is really two black tiles.

Now all three dead on front. I love those chrome grills on the HP car. If you couldn't start to tell already, the all-out gangster car is made from lots of "spare parts from the dump," meaning this car has been in so many accidents the owners just threw on whatever replacement parts they could find (which does happen in real life).

Backs. As you can see, the convertible has big back lights and a license plate, and the gangster car is kind of broken. Maybe it had a trunk at one time in its story, but I never put one on. One of its taillights is blown out. The HP car has an opening trunk, if you didn't know.

HP car side. I did forget a piece leading up to the roof on either side, but it doesn't matter too much. Both sides are the same.

Convertible side. Both sides are the same.

Gangster side left. They got that police door from a scrap yard, as well as the one blue wheel.

Gangster side right. This side has no door, so the passenger can shoot better.

And lastly, here is why the convertible driver is not so innocent. He scrapped out the convertible hood for a huge trunk, big enough for a kidnapped Chinese gangster!

Well, I hoped you enjoyed my first MOD-C outside of a contest here on Eurobricks. Please comment on what you think. And if you are not a great builder either, I encourage you to take inspiration from your favorite official models!

I would call them MOC's. Simply because they are not exactly as in the instructions.

As far as that last picture...well....I was expecting some green bricks in the trunk ( ), but did not expect a

green-suited gangster!

Well done, overall.

Very nice cars, I especially like that MODified medium blue one with that neat back window.

For your question, just call it what you want. Although I personally would call something that´s

based on an official set a MOD, but sometimes the borders become blurred pretty easily...

The medium blue one is not modified at all, that is the official one that came in the original Harry Potter set.

Oh... I thought there´s no rear window in the original one, just two 1x1 bricks on top of these slopes to sustain the roof...
