Klaus-Dieter Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Hello everybody! For a term paper in didactics of history I designed the following Roman villa: Mini Roman Villa A short overview: Ground floor: Upper floor: Soome details: The atrium: The shops: More details and additional overviews can be found in this folder of my BS gallery (when public). Comments are welcome! Klaus-Dieter Quote
soc399 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 That's awesome, and it includes many authentic details. If you were one of my Roman history students, I would give you an A! Quote
Zorro Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I love the details you have put into this, and as a past Latin student I know they are correct! A big from me for this piece of work. Quote
Tacitus Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Well done! I look forward to seeing the mini-figure scale version Tacitus Quote
BlueBard Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Great job! I specially like how you gave to it a nice roman ambience and your techniques with the columns and the perystilum. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 A very creative minature MOC you have built Klaus, Bravo! I really like the atrium/courtyard Quote
Guss Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Cool mini roman villa, I like the fact that you even built a "mini interior", that's really cool ^^ you can build some more so you'll have an awesome mini scale Rome , and don't worry, you can take your time, Rome wasn't built in a day :P Quote
Asuka Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 A very charming and well detailed work indeed! Quote
WhiteFang Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 K.D, well done! This is one nice Roman Villa which you have gotten the color right for its walls and roofs. Now, where are the inhabitants? Quote
medieval_total_lego Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 love it! historically accurate!!! Quote
Holodoc Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Very well done, Klaus-Dieter! I used to be interested in Roman history a while back, well nowadays I haven´t got much time any more... It really looks beautiful and could easily be used in history lessons at school. Thank you for sharing the pics of a not-so-common theme. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Very nice KD. I enjoy seeing your acual brick-built creations. Over the past few months, I've been looking at Spanish-style missions, villas, and architecture. Judging by your creation, I see that there are some similarities between Roman and Spanish design, like the courtyard. Your courtyard looks very nice. I also like the colors that you selected. The red roof is very fitting and adds to the style of your creation. I would love to see this in a minifig scale creation with some Roman senators, but I'm sure it would require a lot of bricks. Nice job! Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 Thank you all very much for your many and nice comments! That's awesome, and it includes many authentic details. If you were one of my Roman history students, I would give you an A! Thanks, soc399! I love the details you have put into this, and as a past Latin student I know they are correct!A big from me for this piece of work. Thanks, Zorro! It should be as much realistic as possible. So I think I did the best of which my "building talent" and my financial situation allows. Well done! I look forward to seeing the mini-figure scale version Tacitus Thanks, Tacitus! I already designed a minifig-scaled version of a Roman villa some years ago and already posted it here on EB. You can find it here. But it isn't designed that realistic than this new mini version. Great job! I specially like how you gave to it a nice roman ambience and your techniques with the columns and the perystilum. Thanks, BlueBard! Peristyles were always one of my favourite aspects because of which I really Roman villas and villas from South Europe in general. Klaus-Dieter Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 A very creative minature MOC you have built Klaus, Bravo! I really like the atrium/courtyard Thanks, I Scream Clone! The atrium is the second one of the two reasons why I really Roman villas - and it's even one of the two typical tokes a Roman villa owns. Cool mini roman villa, I like the fact that you even built a "mini interior", that's really cool ^^ you can build some more so you'll have an awesome mini scale Rome , and don't worry, you can take your time, Rome wasn't built in a day :P Thanks, Guss! Nice to here that you like the "mini interior"! I really like interior. For me an official Lego set which contains a building in which there is no or only very few interior is for me a not felicitous building and therefore even a bad set. Because of this I tried to "commute" the regular minifig-scaled interior into a "mini interior". I think Rome would be a bit too big for me! I firstly thought whether I should try to build a Roman thermae. But at the moment (not this evening - but the most of the other time) I'm very busy. A very charming and well detailed work indeed! Thanks, Asuka! K.D, well done! This is one nice Roman Villa which you have gotten the color right for its walls and roofs. Now, where are the inhabitants? Thanks, Whitefang! In contrary to my minifig-scaled version some years ago I tried to use the colors right. love it!historically accurate!!! Thanks, medieval_total_lego! Since your signature says that you're from Italy you surely know whether it is historically accurate or not - thanks. Very well done, Klaus-Dieter! I used to be interested in Roman history a while back, well nowadays I haven´t got much time any more... It really looks beautiful and could easily be used in history lessons at school. Thank you for sharing the pics of a not-so-common theme. Thanks, Holodoc! The reason why I built this MOC was indeed for use in school. With the pics I took of it (and which you see here and can find in my BS gallery) I created a Powerpoint presentation. Originally I wanted to show it to the pupils during my teaching practice - but unluckily the time didn't suffice. But there surely will be enough time later when I (hopefully) will be teacher. Very nice KD. I enjoy seeing your acual brick-built creations. Over the past few months, I've been looking at Spanish-style missions, villas, and architecture. I would love to see this in a minifig scale creation with some Roman senators, but I'm sure it would require a lot of bricks.Nice job! Thanks, TheBrickster! You're absolutely right: A historically nearly correct model in minifig-scale would be much too expensive. But - like already told to Tacitus - I built a minifig-scaled Roman villa some years ago which wasn't that historically correct - e. g. the roof on the peristyle was missing. You can find it here. Rijkvv Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Really nice! I don't have much to add at the comments above... Quote

Klaus-Dieter Posted March 27, 2009 Author Posted March 27, 2009 (edited) Really nice! I don't have much to add at the comments above... Thanks, Richie! i like the details. BTW the tools are too big Thanks, prateek! Yes, I know, the most of them are really too big. But since this should be a blacksmith shop I wanted to have some tools, too. Majek Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 This is a really nice creation Klaus-Dieter. I mean, it is brilliant and historical accurate. You have done well. Quote
def Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 This is very cool. Ancient Rome would be a great place for LEGO to go. You just need to add a mosaic to the wall Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 (edited) This is a really nice creation Klaus-Dieter. I mean, it is brilliant and historical accurate. You have done well. Thanks, Majek! This is very cool. Ancient Rome would be a great place for LEGO to go. You just need to add a mosaic to the wall Thanks, def! I originally wanted to add some brick-built mosaics to the walls. But since the walls are only one stuck bright it doesn't function. Then I wanted to add some stickers - but because of time reasons and because I didn't find enough good mosaics I decided to not do. But of course it would look even better with some mosaics on the walls - I totally agree. Yes, if TLG does not add too many fantasy elements to it, Romans would be (after a new Wild West theme) a great theme! Of course there then should be even some well-known ancient buildings such as a Roman villa, a part of the Colosseum, a part of the Palatin and a citadel. Section8 Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Nice work Klaus-Dieter. I've always wanted to build a Roman villa like yours, only full minifig scale. I'll definitely use yours as inspiration if I ever get to do that. Yes, if TLG does not add too many fantasy elements to it, Romans would be (after a new Wild West theme) a great theme! Right, although it would be neat to include some of the mythological elements as figures or sets. Granted, most of Roman mythology was copied from Greek mythology, but that doesn't change the stories, just the names. Quote

If TLG makes some seperate sets with Roman fantasy creatures I wouldn't have something to complain about since I then simply wouldn't buy this sets and only would get the "good" sets. But I fear that if TLG releases a Roman theme they will mix reality with fantasy (like in the present "Castle" theme ) - and then I very supposably won't buy these sets (like in the new "Castle" theme where I only bought the Good Wizzard, the Knight and the awesome MMV ). just2good Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Awsome MOC! I wish it was a real set (for at Roman Village theme ). I'd buy it! Quote
Batbrick Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Very nice scaled down villa there. I like the alleged historical accuracy, and the details like the garden and tools are nice, though I feel there should be more little details. Good work though! Batbrick Away! Quote
Oken Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 (edited) Very nice :) I like the little rooms and the garden. Edited April 7, 2009 by Oken Quote
