The Ahsoka torso has gold printing on it. Mine wore off along with other EB members. Well I was looking at my Russians and the gold was completely off of 2 of them. They both had Bruce Wanye's and are messed up. I'm just getting pissed at Lego.

Do any of your Russians have the gold printing off?

Me neither, I have only experienced this with my stingray torsos. Now they are all gray and no gold or red. Why is this in licensed?

I was reffering to the Ruskies.

I don't want to accuse lego of anything but after like 5 years the print on my yellow heads starts to sort of rub off and after what seems like 5 days the licensed peachie heads rub off. Obviously this makes it seem that lego isn't making licensed themes have much minifig quality. I know it seems wrong to think this and believe me I don't want to but my two alpha team heads wore off partially but this can be blamed on age and maybe quality (but lego has improved if that is the case) but when I have poison ivy with a big line of her lips wiped off (bought off of bricklink in perfect condition when received) same case with marion raven wood, Katara, and Bruce Wayne, and batman's visor completely gone. Now it's one thing if some really old yellow non licensed rub off but when brand new licensed themes rub off in like a week then I think you can pretty clearly see the problem. I really hope this changes because I really like some of these licensed heads and I don't want them to be made at such poor quality. I haven't had any problems with torsos but that's probably because I don't care for them as much as heads so I don't really look for those types of problem.

I've noticed this with metallic gold, and not just in licensed themes. I've noticed that the my IJ golden idol and the gold on my new imperial soldier's uniforms are beginning to fade. The gold paint is wearing off in the 8630 Gold Hunt especially. This is evident with my "old man" Gold Tooth figure, who is starting to develop grey hair.

Metallic gold pieces definitely wear. My chest from the IJ treasure chase is losing the gold on the corners, and I've barely even touch it. I haven't noticed any of my Russian 'guard' torsos fading, but some of my old castle crusader emblems have faded.

The gold on one of my Life on Mars torso's was never printed in the first place (But I thought it was even more awesome, so no problem) Some of my older mf heads are worn (specificaly where the helmets brush the "jaw" line) but none of my new ones. I suppose it depends on how you store them and how you handle them. I have noticed the gold visors can rub streaks on the helmets and lose the gold on the underside in two neat lines where they rub.

Yeah, with the Mars Mission visors. I wish TLG would stop using it. It'm worried about my Gold Tooth hair.

Another thought occurs. Maybe the enviroment it is stored in can have an affect, pH of the atmosphere or humidity. You natural pH (the acidity/alkaline leve of your sweat) could also have an effect.

I can do science me!

What do you people do with your figures, PLAY WITH THEM??? :hmpf:

I haven't lost gold from a figure since the classic space and castle era.

Do I wish they would improve the application/bonding a bit? Yes. Do I think it's a huge issue? Not for me, but yes, they should do something about this.

That said, we have another topic on this already. I think you know that since it's your topic. :hmpf:

I'm going to merge it into this one so you can keep your griping in one place.

You know, I have NO idea how you managed to rub all the gold of those torso's in the short time you've had them...

How do you store them?

How often do you handle them?

What do you do with your hands all day before touching you minifigs???!

That can only happen to a minifig that has been rubbed and handled and maybe even sucked, unless a chemical agent has been introduced.

Like comics, minifigs react to their storage and handling, If I leave my comic in a nice clean comic storing baggie with an acid free backing board in a sealed box and look at it once a year it will be mint and unfaded, if I flip through it daily and throw it in a plastic bag and store it under a great big pile of old magazines book and cookie crumbs then I wont be surprised if it falls apart after a week or two.

Do you have a job that requires you to handle anything that might alter the pH of your skin, making it react with the paint? Do you stroke your minifigs? Or are you constatly playing with them?

As I mentioned before my gold visor rubs on the helmet, therefore I have stopped raising and lowering it to avoid removing the gold paint. I have noted that the chrome chips (from other posts) so I am going to put it seperate to my other bricks and aviod rummaging through it (once I take it of the models).

Just as white bricks yellow in sunlight, paint fades from handling, you take steps to avoid it and cest la vie when it does fade or yellow.

It is a problem that has a simple solution at home but costly research and probably a costly solution at manufacture. T-Shirt prints fade and split, books left to sunlight fade. It happens, we can't avoid it if we want to continue enjoying our hobbies.

So there we go.

(why is it we moan so much about what we love?)

Sure the metallic printing will presumably not wear off if you avoid *using* the parts (i.e. build once and display). Now for minifigs, even using them in various scenes you can avoid rubbing the front. But for parts - well, the silver parts in my Agents Turbocar Chase have slightly worn corners and that is just from the original package/shipping, first build, and then a second build of a customised version.

Really one has to be *SUPER* careful to avoid serious wear on such parts, so I think it is a genuine concern, and obviously one that's been around decades - even if the issue is amplified today by greater use of such printing.

Interestingly my brother recently washed some old Lego in the washing machine, and accidentally left in some torsos with printing - some in good condition through little use. Even the metallic highlights (e.g. buttons) remained intact - which I have not always experienced with even careful handwashing. My reasoning is that the washing itself must not be as much of an issue as rubbing (e.g. even just picking up with wet hands - I now try to pick up by the "neck" and avoid any contact with the front at all). I still won't be putting any metallic printing through a wash myself!

It was my old storage system. This:

The figs rubbed up agaist one another and I stopped using them once I saw it happening. I just wish LEGO would stop using it or make it a better qualitly. I'm affraid to try to display them with sets. I want to put them in a pose and some how I guess I rub one of my finger on it and it comes off. It makes me sad to see the figs all dull. Exspecaily Willie!

Why doesn't SILVER printing come off?
