Bundalings Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I'm sure most of us remember weeping over the loss of purple, but I don't think it's gone. Look in this Indiana Jones pic. Definitely purple. According to Omicron from BZP, they just said they were discontinuing the old purple that's been absent for years anyway. I dunno if this is true, but if it is, this is like the worst miscommunication ever. >_> Sorry if this is old news. Can anyone shed some light? ~Bunda Quote
Natman8000 Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Thats a good observation. When I saw that I wondered the same thing. Maybe its a new shade of purple that is less prone to being low quality. Quote
mania3 Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Aren't these generally just prototypes? I can't help but think this is promising though. Quote
Natman8000 Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Aren't these generally just prototypes? I can't help but think this is promising though. I dont think that this will be changed though. Mundane things like this dont useally change on final editions. But I could be wrong. Quote
Skull-Mark_Ladybug Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Great find! As someone else said I think that this is probably a new/better shade of purple. I'm pretty sure that the set designs shown at the toy fair are final except for maybe a small piece or two, since these are no longer preliminary models. We'll just have to wait and see what the future holds for purple . Quote
Shoc Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Ahem, purple was going to be discontinued. But in the end they didn't do it. This is what CopMike said in the "Bye Purple" topic: Purple will not be discontinued.TLG will still produce parts in purple to put in sets, but the kind of sets like the 4755 Knight Bus, is not on the meny. :skull: Quote
Bundalings Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 Oh, thanks. "Meny"? Curiously, I never had a problem with the old purple's shades... only with the new. ~Bunda Quote
Shoc Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Oh, thanks. "Meny"? I think it's meant to say "menu". :skull: Quote
Darth Legolas Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Woohoo! I didn't know this! And now I understand why there's still trans-purple. Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Thats a good observation. When I saw that I wondered the same thing. Maybe its a new shade of purple that is less prone to being low quality. Let's hope. The Harry Potter bus had 5-6 shades of purple and pick-purple. Quote
prateek Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Let's hope. The Harry Potter bus had 5-6 shades of purple and pick-purple. my bus came with all the same shade of purple Quote
mania3 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Oh, so this IS good news then. I never followed up on that Bye Purple topic appropriately it seems. Great. Good to hear it'll be sticking around. Quote
Brickmaster Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 It surely is great news for me. I hope the color will appear more often for accents than it has recently, though. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Oh good I'm glad it'll still be around. I really like purple and I only have small amounts of it to work with. Quote
Eskallon Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 That's good news then. I was also rather confused after being told it was not going to be made then told that purple is staying then it is gone for good again. I think i will just agree that only the old purple is gone for good and that they will produce better quality purple. Quote
Brickthing Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 What TLG probably meant in their non-purple statement is that they won't be using purple as a main colour in their sets anymore, unless they fix the colour difficulties. However, the Ambush in Cairo set has only one purple piece, so most consumers aren't going to notice the purple inconsistencies, because they wouldn't have a second purple piece from the set to compare it to. That could be true per se, but if there is purple in one set, why not put it in others? Quote
mania3 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 The problem wasn't inconsistencies in purple in sets that are sold, but parts that are made in the plant and scrapped, as I heard it. Meaning, more inconsistencies at the plant means more waste and thus purple becomes too expensive to produce simply due to a higher ratio of loss. Quote
Brickthing Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 That could be true per se, but if there is purple in one set, why not put it in others? I'd think that the more purple there is, the more likely people will notice the colour problems. Although what mania3 said makes a lot more sense. Quote

CopMike Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Seen & touched that set - and yes, it´s a purple piece. As for the rest of the discussion, I´ve answered it in the other thread. CopMike - purple lover Quote
