The Who Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Besides you shouldn't open links if you don't know who they are from. Obviously enough. You can just move the 'mouse' over the link to read at the bottom of the page where it goes to. Quote
user Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 (edited) He's been here before sending links to the same page. I got a message by him both times. But how do you know when he was banned? Well after I opened the link I was disgusted so I veiwed his account to report him and his group name said banned outlaws and It said when his last visit/post was. I Scream Clone Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Well after I opened the link I was disgusted so I veiwed his account to report him and his group name said banned outlaws but that's not the point how did he send me a message after he was banned? See the point is, he sent this same message to so many members that he got banned. It will still be in your inbox after his status is changed to banned outlaw Quote

Izzy Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 (edited) mignulikz (a banned member) sent me a message too, called "Important:" I didn't know him so didn't go to the link when I opened it! I guess we can just be grateful that he is banned and he did all his immaturity behind the scenes instead of spreading racist and moronic messages all over the entirety of EB! VBBN Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Yes, this is a common proble. Here is a solution; When you get a link from someone new or you don't know, then right-click-properties, and look at the address. Unless it is a trusted address, do not open it, report it to a staff member. Screenshots always help. That's what I always do if I get a spam message. Same goes for my email, as I leave it in my sig, I am at risk, but it's always helpful to members, so I keep it out. Rmemeber, we don't need a topic for every spam message sent, so it's best just to hold off unless it is a major problem. Quote

Erdbeereis Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I got that this morning as well. I never open a link that doesn't have some text explaining what it goes to, especially if the member only has 10 posts. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 The reason you're seeing a last active time earlier than your PM time is that 'Last Active' refers to last log in not last log out. Quote
ILikePi Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I think that this topic should be merged with the "Getting Spam..." topic. It was even on the first page, if you looked. I also got the same message titled "Important". Of course I didn't click the link, since it was the exact same link as the one that the other person sent. Also, the person was banned. You should never click links from someone that you don't know, or a new Vassal. I learned that the hard way a while ago... Quote

KimT Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Topics merged. We're working on slamming the door on all those spammers determined to annoy us. So far I think we're doing a good job, but we cannot prevent a few to slip through now and then. So it'll be wise not to open links from low post count members or members you don't know. Quote
Toa of Whimsy Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 This "minimum posts before you can PM" sounds similar to BZP. As for blocking spambots, try captchas. Quote
