Ricecracker Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Hmmm, I don't think that you are allowed to do that. It's also really annoying when people do this. I hope it's dealt with soon. Quote

Just noticed he's been banned! I probable should've checked that before I posted this.... Anyway maybe we should make it you have to make several posts ect.. before you can pm anyone on the boards? [Accept admins if you need help]. Quote
Ricecracker Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I voted yes in your poll. I think that they should prove themselves in the forums first. And if they need any help until they reach, say, 20 posts, they can PM an admin, who if they feel aren't ready for our forums, can ban them before they spam. Quote
Derek Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Yeah, I got that too. Fat chance of me buying the set for THAT price.... I thought it was funny that when I read the message, the member had the scary red BANNED stamp... Quote
Bob Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I'm not quite sure I understand the poll question, "Should new members get a few posts before they PM admin's" I voted no, because sometimes you PM admin's for help, problems and so on and so forth. Say you can't post an image due to a technical problem. Then you would have to ask some random member, who might not know the correct answer. I'm sure that if they can't post a picture it's their own fault, but still, it would help them. Also, lets say it is a member that doesn't post alot normally, and only posts very good MOC's once in awhile. He might have a post count of about 13, and that means that what you propose of 20 posts to PM an admin, he couldn't talk to one if he wanted to tell them something important and such. My point is that it is very important for a member to talk to an admin during their first stages of being here at Eurobricks, incase they need questions answered. We all have had our new guy questions. Just think back to yours. Quote
mandziarat Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Just noticed he's been banned! Maybe we should ban you instead, then everyones happy!!!! On topic, Its a good idea. Quote

Siegfried Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 What you want can't be done easily. People can either PM or they can't. We have considered creating a new structure of rank something like this... 0-9 Newbie No PMs, no posting in BSTF 10-99 Vassal BSTF is OK ...but it would have been a bit messy so it was decided to not do this unless the situation was dire. If you get any PMs like this in future tell a Moderator or Admin, and they will ban the member. That's what happened in this case. Quote

I guess they are rare though so maybe the current system of forwarding to admin would be fine. Quote
JCC1004 Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 I haven't gotten any but I voted yes. I don't want to get this garbage. Quote

Siegfried Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I voted yes on the poll I've gotten a message asking me to go to some random forum. So I think this system would be nice to prevent people from using eurobricks as a billboard. Also I think that the post count to pm should be a little higher like 30 maybe? I mean ten posts isn't hard to get within a day or so. Just to clarify, I personally have no intention of paying any attention to the result of this poll in regard to making any decision. Currently no-one has any PM restrictions. If this becomes a major problem then we might do something, but as Bob the Construction Man says, limiting PMs would be bad for the newbies. I've never been a fan of making everyone suffer just because we have a few trouble makers. Quote
BillytheKid Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I voted no. The admin/mods should be checking everyday the site if everything goes well. With the spam of the vestaswindmill, the staff has done a good job. A new person who joined this forum to sell something at ebay, is not right. This person is rightfully blocked. By the way, why does this seller think to sell it here, while I've build already one just form parts. My friend wants also one, no way I'm gonna buy this set. Just get the parts again . Quote
CommanderCody77 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Well I have not recieved any spam yet. But I still definetly would say you're not allowed to PM staff and those people until you have 20-30 or more posts Quote
Natman8000 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I only got spam when someone came on with one of those disgusting false SW links. But JINZONINGEN73 helped me solve the problem. I've always wondered why people do stupid things like these. Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I see no problem with the current PM system. Although there may be a few very rare spam PM's sent, all the users responsible have been banned right? The problem with setting 'Newbie' limits like Sinner said, is that it would make a tedious task for the staff who write EB, and from what I understand, and correct me if I'm wrong, it would also present problems when something on the board needs to be changed. Or am I way off? Either way, when you compare how many spam PM's in ratio to how many legit PM's you may get from users with <10 posts, there isn't really a need to change anything. Quote
Millacol88 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I voted yes, but I think otherwise after reading what Sinner said. If its a lot of extra work then no. I think the spamming is to infrequent to warrant a change that will cause the admins a lot of headaches. I have never been a victim of PM spam, and I hope I never will be. To those who have been spammed, I feel sorry for you. Quote

Darth Legolas Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 (edited) EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize this was resolved already. Well, when I was a wee Vassal, *cough practically yesterday cough,* I was talking to you apologizing for stealing your name. Now I think that unlike other members (I think,) Vassals should have their comments monitored or at least something like that. To tell you the truth, I don't really know. More of the people come here with good intentions, not to hassal people about buying and selling which is against EB policy for Vassals. Edited March 11, 2009 by Darth Legolas Quote

iLikeSlugzz Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Well I did get a PM by a user who apparently is banned now. He sent me a link to porn(or that is what he says). Obviously I didn't click it, but that was weird. Quote
5150 Lego Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 What? I can't understand what you said. Sorry. There's somone sending private messages to people with porn sites. I was sent a link, but didn't open it as the memeber was banned so i figured it was harmfull. Quote
