I always made a Humvee from this set:

6490-1.jpg

So now I decided to do it again, only make it bigger and better! And apparently blacker... because I dediced a yellow Humvee is really not done! So basically the only part left intact from the original set is the undercarriage (almost) and the way the front is build.

One problem I had was that I couldn't find any black mudguards, so I just used 2x4's and raised the entire chassis so the wheels wouldn't collide with the chassis.

Anyway, here are the pictures:

I also added larger doors so he has better protection.

(Actually I couldn't find the smaller right door... well, not until I already had these two in. Somekinda Murphy's Lego Law)

The gun on top.

Now if that isn't menacing, I don't know what is!

Hmm, picture doesn't really show it well, but the back can open!!!

And inside the back is...

Completely nothing special.

Here's the minifig next to it, for size comparison.

Size comparison from the front.

And the back can also be removed!!!

And there's still completely nothing special in the back!!!

Side shot without the back.

And since this was on repeat while building it...

NARWHALS!!! BECAUSE THEY'RE AWESOME!!!

A nice vehicle, and it looks really cool dressed in black... Johnny Cash style that is, huh?

This special windscreen piece fits very nicely too, where´s it coming from?

However, like in the original LEGO version, I think that the mass centre of the

car´s perhaps a bit too far back for an off-roader...

Not what I'd call a Humvee, since they're low and (very!) wide, but it definatly looks militarian and purpose-built, with it's low windscreen and utilitarian looks.

Nice to see someone use those shocks again, not often one sees those!

I got the windshield from the truck in the Egyptian Temple set.

And yeah, the centre is a bit way back, but because of the baseplate thingy I can't really move the tires back.

Also, I made it a bit lower by removing the bottom row of blocks. The driver's seat is now completely closed off and I had to remove his legs, otherwise he wouldn't fit. I'll get some pictures later on.

Hi Aramor. I like this little humvee. Reminds me of the South African Apartheid era security forces trucks somewhat.

Only thing that I would alter is the red wheel axels.. You don't have these pieces in grey or black?

Posted

Nope, I think I got 2 or 3 sets and they're all in red.

And after looking on Peeron, they only exist in red, so sorry.

Ok, made a slightly revised version.

I've lowered the roof, so now the driver is completely shut off. Also, I have to remove his legs otherwise he can't sit. I've also shortened the back by one row and I've lowered the entire chassis. Well, I just removed the 2x3 plates between the chassis and the wheels, but still.

I also moved the gun from the centre to the left and added binoculars, so the driver can shoot it from inside.

More pictures here once they are processed.

As a big fan of the original 6490 Amazon Crossing, I think it's really interesting that you based your Humvee on the yellow 4WD. I would never have thought of doing so. Your first version is OK, but your 2nd version looks 100 times better. I like the more squarish, lower front end and how the windshield piece is level with the top (a much better design). Nice creation!

Thanks. I like the second version way better as well. I'm really tempted to make another one, but I don't think I've got another one of those tow cable thingies.

And I got the idea when I got the Egyptian set with that windshield.
