fallentomato Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 So last night while I was watching SNL I started fooling around trying to make some microscale buildings for a cityscape I'm working on. The first one I did was small and unnoteworthy. The second one quickly got out of hand, and is clearly at an entirely different scale. However, I really liked it, so I had to keep going. I worked on it for a couple hours last night and then finished up this rough version this morning. This building is the TileVision Studios Tower in New Block City for an upcoming animation of mine. In order to get something that was more inline with the blue building. I scaled down this to what I'm calling a nanoscale version: Here's a size comparison: I've already placed bricklink orders to get most of those white parts in yellow but there's one thing that's being problematic. To smooth out the transitions between levels I've got these cheesy/SNOTty bits: Unfortunately this piece doesn't come in yellow. Does anyone have a suggestion of another way to accomplish this so I can make everything yellow? I don't want to resort to painting unless i absolutely have to. And of course, any other thoughts on the tower are welcome and appreciated. Quote
kill will Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Are you going to replace the orange and white with yellow? Because I like the the white detailing. But It looks really good, both the micro and nano-scale. Quote

I know that's a little bland, but the aesthetic I'm going for in these buildings is simple and bold. Quote
Faramir Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Looks very good! as for the SNOT parts, I would actually suggest not making them with SNOT... it seems like it would be easier (and cleaner looking) to just do the cheese slopes facing up. Quote

I have an idea for the level with the cheese grates, but I'm not sure about the level with the cheese slopes. My idea is kinda hard to explain - maybe I'll post pics later - but basically it involves exchanging the three-brick high white slope pieces next to the cheese grates with a SNOT constructions and then connecting both cheese grates with a 1x2 plate each to those constructions. You will need a lot of yellow cheese slopes for this, though. If you mean this as a solution for the level with the orange cheese slopes, I agree. Quote

I think I may just end up splashing on some yellow paint. That piece is perfect for what I want to do, the only problem is the color. Quote
Minifig Lecturer Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 The more I see of these cool lil creations the more I am tempted to make my first microscale city Quote
