Skinny Boy Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Oh this gave me a good laugh Thanks for sharing. Glad to know she's ok Quote
Lego12 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Poor little chicken, all helpless, although it was hilarious! Can't wait to see some more pictures. I have some chickens out back and they hatch eggs almost every day......I love my chickens! Quote
-JD- Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 I think chickens are the funniest pets you could have! Except for those cats which react differently to everything, like fight with their reflection in a mirror! JD Quote
Bricks Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Funny story! Oh and yes I love chickens, too. They are really tasty.... 'Bricks' Quote
Natman8000 Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 You have chickens? I envy you, thats really cool. I want chickens for a pet. At least I have my parakeets, there pretty fun. If anyone makes a 'delicious' remark to this I'll whup them. Quote

Digging Nest- They made this themselvs using the straw from the bag (right) in the store cupboard inside the run. I found this one morining in Winter. Perch Dustbath! Quote
-JD- Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 Thanks. We are revamping the facilities now, and the outside run (which is around a third of the garden) should have netting over it and fox proof stuff, which means they can be safe outside while we are inside! Another thing is a small shelter if it rains. Quote
ILikePi Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 (edited) Wow, your chickens look really fat delicious cool! How old are they, and is it fun having them as a pet? Edited August 4, 2009 by ILikePi Quote
-JD- Posted August 5, 2009 Author Posted August 5, 2009 Wow, your chickens look really fat delicious cool! How old are they, and is it fun having them as a pet? They are all over a year old now. It goes like this: Chicks (0-4months), Pullets (5-8months), Chicken (9-12 months) and Hen (12 months+). THey are great pets, and I highly recommend them to everyone. Just spend a good half hour atleast with them evryday, feeding them corn and cleaning their house, and they will love you in no time. They are actually quite caring, and once they protected me from a cat. Quote
prateek Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 They are actually quite caring, and once they protected me from a cat. I'm surprised the cat was too much of a wuss to eat one Quote
-JD- Posted August 5, 2009 Author Posted August 5, 2009 (edited) I'm surprised the cat was too much of a wuss to eat one All cats are scared of largish chickens. They get mauled by them. Commander Flash Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 (Looks at ads) Nice I can get a chicken coup That is a nice chicken closeup Quote
ILikePi Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 (edited) For me, the ads are about this game called "Transformers Headquarters". Nice new old picture () of the chicken/hen/rooster, though. It goes like this: Chicks (0-4months), Pullets (5-8months), Chicken (9-12 months) and Hen (12 months+). What about roosters? Are they male chickens that are over one year old? Edited August 5, 2009 by ILikePi Quote
The Who Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 What about roosters?I'm pretty sure a rooster is a rooster, not a chicken. Quote
-JD- Posted August 6, 2009 Author Posted August 6, 2009 Yes, a rooster is a male... chicken. I always wanted one so we could have chicks and a hen protector, but it would make too much noise. Quote
legotrainfan Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Nice little story! Animals often add a lot to one's day by funny situations. We have neighbours who have chickens, and the wood is not far from us. So we have foxes and martens coming for visits. Pretty dangerous for the animals. Not only for chickens but also rabbits. I often check the locking mechanism of our rabbits' cages twice and never leave them in the outdoor enclosure over night. A marten family has been living under our roof, by the way. I hope the technical thingy we are using now will drive them away. They're not only a danger for our rabbits and the neighbours' chickens but also annoying. They can be very noisy. Just where they get under the roof, my dad has recently found a squeaking toy for little kids: a little yellow plastic mouse that squeaks when you squeeze it. The martens must have taken it there. No idea where they got it from. So we had some squeaking noises under the roof because they were playing with it. That was pretty irritating since we had no idea how they were producing such noises.
