Patriot720 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I was browsing lego S@H and I found This set. I'm not sure if it's new, but I've never seen it before. Does anybody know any additional information on this set? Is there something I don't know about? Quote
soc399 Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 It originally came out in 2006. I got it in '07 when it was half price, and I'm surprised to see it back on the site. I thought the castle was only OK, but it comes with a lot of great parts. Quote
Derek Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 That's old. From 2004 or 2005 I think. I have no idea why its on S@H, maybe to replace Kings Castle Siege? Anyway, nice find. Quote
LBaixinho Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 You can always look at brickset: 10176 I'm surprised by still being sold... Quote

That link to the brickset jogged my memory! Thanks! I remember this set now. I am very curious as to why it is on S@H almost four years after it's release! Maybe they found a few extra thousand sets just lying around Edited February 12, 2009 by Patriot720 Quote
Dadster Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 After looking at the pictures, I realized I had forgotten it came with a Bull knight and glow-in-the-dark ghost! Quote
pr0visorak Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 That set came from the kingdom series I think. Around 2002-2006 Quote
Athos Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 They probably just found some old stock stashed away in a warehouse somewhere. It happens occasionally. I got mine in '07 for half price. I didn't think it was that great of a set, but it was nice for 1/2 off. Here's the lugnet listing: lugnet listing. Steve Quote
Dan Church Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Hey, while I was sufing lego.com, I found that the Royal King's Castle from the Knights Kingdom theme was back on the web site. Royal King's Castle Dan Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Strange to see that this set is back. I picked one up last time it was available. It's not a bad castle, just not the best. The torture chamber is pretty neat. I also love the ghost. Quote
AhabDarab Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Thanks for the tip. I may have missed this if you had not pointed it out. :) Ahab out...................... Quote
SWMAN Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I would not suggest buying this set. The castle design allows for very little playability and with the figures, it can't really interact with any other themes. Also, it incorporated the big swords like KK, plus you have to put stickers on everything INCLUDING SHIELDS, which Lego quickly decided was a bad idea. Quote
posades Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 It would have been nice if they updated it with Crownies/Skellies, but then it wouldn't have matched much I guess. The stickers are a turn off, so I probably won't get it. This is an interesting trend though, maybe they'll do this type of re-release for other sets as well. Quote
SeaKing61 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 I'm more interested in why TLC chose this castle of all the castles they've released in the past30 odd years. It's relatively recent (maybe the shortest time period between release and 'classic' status so far?), is from one of the least popular castle sub-themes and they're only releasing it in the US. Why not rerelease one of the old modular castles? I'm sure they'd sell much better. I guess it must have been easier to retool for manufacturing of this castle. I'm pretty disappointed, as I'm guessing others will be too, at TLC's choice. I would have bought it had it been a truely classic castle. *Rant over!* Laurie Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 (edited) I thought the castle was only OK, but it comes with a lot of great parts. This castle wasn't only ok, it was ! What had this castle in common with the original, awesome and so lovely detailed version from 1995?! - Nothing!!! It was only a remake of the KK 1 caslte and nothing else - only that TLG tried to sell it under the name of a "classic" product. That was really a shame! Klaus-Dieter The name is just close to the 1995 set which was called "Royal Knights Castle", but I do agree that this is a really bad castle. Rased baseplate, stickers, no backside, this castle have all....that you don't want Quote
