gylman Posted October 19, 2005 Posted October 19, 2005 The next issue of Brickjournal is out. http://www.legofan.org/brickjournal/ Wow! what can I say. 60+ pages of Lego goodness. Twice a good as the first, since it's twice as long. Great stuff on Mecha building. Joe Meno and crew - my hat's off to you. Gyl Quote
Lost Viking Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 I second that! It's great. I am about half way through. Quote
KMOI Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Great magazine! Mecha seems a bit wierd though. The frame constructions in the pics shown are a tad odd, but innovative! Quote
gylman Posted October 20, 2005 Author Posted October 20, 2005 Great magazine! Mecha seems a bit wierd though. The frame constructions in the pics shown are a tad odd, but innovative! That may be cuz you are used to using Bionicle to build Mecha. But these people were building mecha long before Bionicle bits came along. Look up "gla-gla" on google. It's a classic upon which many other designs are based. Gyl Quote
KMOI Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Arg. Just because I have a Bionicle sig, avatar and name doesn't mean I'm used to seeing mechs made of Bionicle. To me, Bionicle is a fun island adventure story, much in contrast with the Metru-Nui saga. I'm a proud mecha builder myself and I guess my notions of "mecha" come all from the Mecha section of Brickshelf. Here's one of the references I base my views of Lego Mecha on: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=zizy2 And this guy, who to me, is a god of mecha. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=87139 Quote
languages Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 That mag is uber awsome (I wanted to tyr a wierd word out.....) Quote
jmenomeno Posted October 20, 2005 Posted October 20, 2005 Thanks for the compliments, everyone! I would have posted here sooner, but I got tripped up by the launch (what I thought would take a couple of days took a little longer) and I wasn't exactly sure where to post... Anyways, I took the 'odd' route on mecha because one of things I want to show in BrickJournal are the builders that aren't always seen. Each of us as builders has something to learn, and each of us has something to offer. So as a spacer, I pay attention to train builders and bionicle, even though my interests lean elsewhere. I had a great time with this issue, and don't woory - more is on the way! Joe Quote
gylman Posted October 20, 2005 Author Posted October 20, 2005 This would be an example of what can be done on those frames that are prominent in the article on Mecha. Awesome posability. (totally not my work, this guy is one of my fav builders and he usually DOES use bionicle bits predominantly) http://216.92.149.12/moc.php/2156 Gyl Quote
languages Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Thanks for the mecha article, I was wondering how I could create a good robot. I also like the pic of the octobot. Thanks for creating such a good mag..... :) Quote
jonfett Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Nice stuff there, I am really enoying it and I have only been reading for about 10 mins. This is the sort of Lego mag AFOL's need, much better than the Lego club mag! ;) I plan to read the rest later and was hoping to download issue 1 as well, but the download won't work (on this page) *wacko* Any help? Great read though, thanks Joe! I am looking forwards to issue 3 already ;) Jon. Quote
jmenomeno Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Jonfett, try the third link on that page. I know the first one has to be updated. don't know what's up withthe second link, but the third works. Joe ed/pub, BrickJournal Quote
jonfett Posted October 21, 2005 Posted October 21, 2005 Thanks for the quick reply Joe! I finished issue 2 just now, I skipped the Mecha techniques pages but I will definately go back to them. I must say, brilliant stuff! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait to get started on issue 1 right now! ;) Jon. Quote
