Dr. Steve Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 (edited) I originally started building this ship as an expanded "Brick Beards Bounty". Then I started to change the colors and added a few more hull sections until I had a ship that only the sails remained the same. In the end I wound up replacing the skull and crossbones sails with the regular sails from the same sets. Now I have an Imperial Armada ship. This is still a work in progress, I do not like the cabin and will re-build it soon. The thing I like the best is the deck and railings. I really like the Pearl Gold Telescope's as supports for the railing and the 1x2 tile jumper fits in really well to support them. I liked how BBB had the dark tan line of brick going down the side of the ship....So to match my color scheme I used some 1x2 pearl gold tile jumpers and 1x1 pearl gold round plates to make the look. I think it looks a little Vikingish (if that's a word) and I would like to replace it with 1x2 pearl gold tiles eventually (not even sure if there is such a piece yet). The deck over the cannons rests on tiles and is removable (the middle sail has to be taken off first) and I would like to add some detail to that part of the ship as well. I am sure that I will tear this ship apart and rebuild it several times...So suggestions are appreciated. Edited February 11, 2009 by Dr.Steve Quote
Dr. Steve Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 Dr. Steve, that looks absolutely awesome! Those spyglass fences are fantastic I'd like to say more but I would need to see some better pics first. I see you posted thumbnails linking to bigger pictures, but it seems you did not post deeplinks. Which is inconvenient if the file is not yet public. Here's a tutorial for posting deeplinks. Please do so, cause that would make it a lot easier for us to comment! Thanks for the advice! ....I will make the changes ASAP Thanks Again Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Brilliant! I love the hull of this ship! It has a very realistic look about it with the tiled decks, and the railing is awesome. I only have two things I could point out: The masts are too short for the lenth of the ship. You need to extend them. Can you do that with the BB masts? The cabin needsto be different from the rest of the hull. It needs more gold plating and statues etc. around it. But you said you weere going to rebuild the cabin anyway. This is a very good ship! Keep up the great work. In fact, fix up those minor details, and this could easily be Classic-Pirates.com frontpage quality! Quote
Ratshot Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Good looking ship, but it seems kind of bear in the middle Your railings are awesome.Good job  Quote
Dr. Steve Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 I just noticed the e-norm-ous load of pearl gold pieces you used. Very impressive! How did you acquire all these, if I may ask? I haven't yet looked it up, so I can't say for sure but I believe there is nu such piece in that colour as of yet. I have about 100 Cannon Battle Sets...I got the rest of the pearl gold jumpers and round plates off of bricklink...I really like the telescope piece and I also like it in the dark brown color from the village market place and might try to aquire a bunch of those down the road to use on a railing on another ship....once I can afford it Quote
Captain Zuloo Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 100 cannon battle???!!! Wow! What do you do for a living? Where did you aquire that sort of dollars? That equates to $250 Australian or something like that. But it appears you get a really awesome result with the pieces though! Quote

And I thought spending 100 euro for a few BL orders was a lot... I have to agree with everything what has mentioned above, I have no more suggestions. Great work! Captain Zuloo Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Only 250 dollars? That would mean a Cannon Battle would be $2,50. I wish it was only $2.50, but I think the truth is different.. Oops! I meant $2500 - I forgot an extra zero. If they were $2.50, it WOULD be worth buying 100! Quote
Dr. Steve Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 Ah, I can see the pictures now. Very impressive, perhaps abit plain and "empty" here and there and some room for improvements, but for now, I think the main concern should be the masts. They don't look right with the length of the ship, I suggest you to adjust them and make them longer, so they are proportionately right to the rest of the ship. Would you just make them taller? or would you add a 3rd sail to each one? I just placed an order from brick link for some more parts, If I get them by this weekend I should hopefully have the ship re-built by next week Quote
Zorro Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Looks very good but as said I would really add a third sail to it to improve it looks. Then again, I am not the expert in this thread . Quote
Capt. Kirk Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Dr. Steve, that looks absolutely awesome! Those spyglass fences are fantastic Nice detail and part use !!! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Any updates on this ship Dr. Steve? I'm curious how this project will turn out. Quote
martinsuper Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 A couple things I would like to see. One more mast, and all of the masts higher. That has already been said. Either shorten the ship, or add more cannon front and back. Also, for a ship of this size, maybe two rows of cannon? I think it would open the ship up more and MIGHT actually save you some bricks? Other than that, I think it looks the part very nicely. I think more and bigger masts will "bring out" the rest of the ship much better. Quote
Dr. Steve Posted April 14, 2009 Author Posted April 14, 2009 Any updates on this ship Dr. Steve?I'm curious how this project will turn out. Almost Finished, I just have to re-build the sails...I am happy with the cabin (lots of dark blue and gold now)...I hope to get a chance to finish it this weekend and get some new pics up nexxt week. Should I post a new topic or update this one? A couple things I would like to see.One more mast, and all of the masts higher. That has already been said. All good tips, I may use some of them the next time i strip her down and rebuild...I do like the idea of going up and adding a second row of cannons Thanks! Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I should post your updates in this thread, by just posting another post, not by editing the first post. Edit the discription of the topic instead to say there are updates. I did it in several threads and it is very confusing, thus I'm sticking to one thread from now on. And now I want to see the new pictures! I'm very curious about the new cabin, with the new colours you mentioned! Quote
Dr. Steve Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 I have not finished it yet...Here are some pics of the ship in progress When it is done there will be 3 sails instead of 2. I think it would look better with blue/white or black/white sails. I hope to have it done soon, I will also post some pics of a soldiers fort that I am working on in a few weeks (it is on 5 48x48 plates) and will probably take me another 6 months to finish Quote
Captain Blackmoor Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 The new colours are awesome, I see the cabin has been improved a lot. Great job on the dark blue and all the tiny details to flourish the cabin up. I only should replace the flag with a lantern, it makes it more realistic. Or you could add a large flag on it but not this one. I should use custom sails since you can make every size you desire. Quote

Captain Blackmoor Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Right below each of your post you see a button with "edit" on it, by clicking on it you can edit that post. You can change the topic discription as well but not the title. You have to be a moderator or something else like that to edit other people's posts. But I am not one of them. Quote

Captain Blackmoor Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I figured it out, you have to be a Knight of Eurobricks. Go and try to get 500 posts, then you can add polls to your topics and also edit the title and discription. Perhaps you can change the discription when being a citizen but I'm not sure. Quote
