Matn Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Well, I'm currently writing on a story that's settled in an apocalyptic setting. I was tired of the fantasy theme and wanted to try something new. Offcourse, this led me to make some apocalyptic creations. This is, hopefully, the first of the row. It's just a simple truck, but have put some hours in it to make is as good as possible. In real life it's a nice thing, I think the picture don't justify the creation how it is really. Oh well. And I wanted to make the back with tan tiles with wooden print, but I don't have 4 studs wide tiles in tan, so it didn't work out how I wanted it. However, I would love to read some of your comments and offcourse tips and suggestions. Folder after moderation: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=367078 Quote
prateek Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 (edited) i it!! i love the front and the use of the messed up brown tiles Edited February 8, 2009 by prateek Quote
Batbrick Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Awesome stuff! As a huge fan of Post Apoc I love it when someone makes something like this, since my own brand does not include it. The mixing of grey and bley really works here, and I love the wood flatbed walls at the back. Great stuff, do you plan on more? Batbrick Away! Quote
Matn Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 Thanks! And yes, I have a tank in mind of the Army that started the Apocalyptic era. And if that one also works out well, I'll try to make a little diorama with those two vehicles, lot's of greenery and a little community that is trying to get away from the Army. But that's for later, for now I will focus on some vehicles and perhaps a smaller MOC in the theme. Quote
Lasse D Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 First of all it is a nice truck. That said, there's nothing telling it from being a mid-western farm equipment rather than post-apoc. I'm talking about details such as the front: Picture perfect chrome grille, lights and bumper without a sign of use in a time where resources are sparse and roads mostly blocked with debris. Here's an example. When you drive around in such an environment, the lights are often the first to go, hence the extreme use of light racks often shown in post-apoc fiction. ... This is, hopefully, the first of the row. ... So. Do you plan on more? Sorry. Couldn't help myself. Quote
Matn Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 Thanks, and you're right, I know. My creations are settled in the beginning of the Apocalyptic era. And I was going to use trans-clear lights, but I didn't find those. I will adjust it in the near future. In the first stages of design the front had a fence, but I got rid of it because I didn't like it. I think the use of different shades of grey shows a bit it's apocalyptic (or it shows the lack of the right pieces in the right colours =P). But like said; in my story it all has just begun and at this moment my vehicles are placed in that time. I'll update him as the story continues, I'm also thinking of showing the story with pictures in LEGO. =) Quote
Lasse D Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 OK. That explains a lot. It would actually be pretty awesome with small things like vehicle developing throughout a story, but are you sure you aren't able to give it a uniform gray paint job for the first episodes? Quote

I will make a big Bricklink order within a few days, so I could order the right grey pieces. It would indeed be nice to see the car going from good state to bad state. Quote
kill will Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Great! And the mixed old and new gray gives it that gritty feel of post-apoc. Quote
