NewRight Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I am a little new to the use of bley cheese slopes other than for mountains. Thanks , NewRight Quote
Darth Legolas Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 (edited) Wow, that's a lot of cheese slopes! From the front, it looks very well designed, with the spinny wheely thingy behind the fan. But from the back, it looks a little odd, since it's sloped over and the wheels aren't on the same level. Good job though! Edited February 6, 2009 by Darth Legolas Quote
Ralph_S Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I agree that the radial engine looks great, but I'm not really convinced by the rest of it. It's very oddly proportioned. The tail is too short, you don't have a horizontal tailplane and the wings are set too far back. I imagine that with the cheese slopes along the forward part you were trying to replicate exhaust pipes like on a Spitfire or P-51 Mustang, which is a decent idea, but completely clashes with the radial engine. It has wings, but it doesn't look like any fighter plane that I know (from whatever era) and doesn't actually look like something that can fly. Sorry. If I may offer a suggestion, I'd say it might be a good idea to look at a few real aircraft before building one. Cheers, Ralph Quote
xenologer Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 He has a horizontal tailplane, its a 'T' tail, hard to see since the wing blocks it at these angles. I think the attempt at going totally studless actually hurts this model, namely the main wing. Using the bricks sideways there makes it too thick, and the cheese slopes on the leading edge don't help because their steep slope makes it look even stubbier. A thinner wing made using traditional plates would probably look nicer here, and I wouldnt worry about studs showing on a military airplane anyhow. Quote
NewRight Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 To answer a few questions: I was going for almost Post-Apoc. feel. I thought that this model proportionally speaking did the perfect job for something of that nature. I will keep all these comments in mind though if I choose to build a different model. Quote
Ralph_S Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 He has a horizontal tailplane, its a 'T' tail, hard to see since the wing blocks it at these angles. I stand corrected. It's an unusual configuration for a fighter though. I can only think of one at the top of my head: the F-101 Voodoo To answer a few questions:I was going for almost Post-Apoc. feel. I suppose it makes a bit more sense as a post-apoc model, because if it's bodged together like something on scrapheap challenge/ junkyard wars you would expect it to look somewhat weird. Ralph Quote
