drdavewatford Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 There are just too many excellent sets in the current Lego range, and my wallet won't stand buying them all at once ! Is there any way of knowing which sets are due to be retired and when ? Do Lego give any advance warning ? Most of the time it seems like a set just goes out of stock at the Lego online store and then the stock is never replensihed. No warning. Nothing. So where, if anywhere, can I find information on this ? Thanks ! Dr. D. Quote
The Cobra Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Id' say: If it's no longer available (to your country/continent) on Shop@Home, chances are that it has been retired! Quote
Algernon Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Most sets are retired a good year after initial release. However, they're always available on Ebay or Bricklink. Quote
CP5670 Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 There isn't really any way of finding out for sure. Sets will typically be around for at least a year, but beyond that it's hard to predict anything. If you see something over a year old on S@H that you like, I would advise you to just buy it quickly. It may not be there a few weeks later. Some sets are easy to find on ebay after being taken off S@H, but others aren't. Quote
natelite Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 take a look at the latest catalog. if it's there, it's good for at least 3 more months. if not, then i recommend buying asap since it's being retired. if your country has a S@H, that's usually the last retail place to sell out. if not, then TRU is usually the last available place to get them. drdavewatford Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 Thanks for the comments. Brinklink is ridiculously expensive for whole sets, particularly if you're an EU buyer, although it's a brilliant source of missing pieces. I've had quite a lot of luck on eBay, but it's hard to find certain sets. I think the best bet is to get the sets from Lego S@H - compared with eBay and Bricklink the prices are low - but there are just too many sets and not enough cash!! Happy building , Dr. D. Quote
Algernon Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Ebay is cheaper, but Bricklink nearly always has what you're looking for available, and the sellers are generally more reliable. I still use Ebay more though. S@H is definitely your best bet. Quote
mrchris Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 S@H isnt always a way to tell, the small indy set with the tent is not on S@H anymore but argos in uk have kept it in their latest catalogue and have had restocks as it was out of stock everywhere around christmas but now back. Quote
