lumiosa Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 This was the last item of MOC building in the contest being held at Fórum 0937. What if LEGO would launch a new theme? We had to build a set that would be part of a new theme. I chose one of my favorite cartoon/anime shows, Dragon Ball. 110 pieces, 3 minifigs (Son Gon-Ku, Piccolo and the Marcial Arts Tournament Host ), a functionality ripped off from Harry Potter, that will send the minifigs flying (though not far ) and some custom stickers. Here's the pics: Quote
pr0visorak Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Erm sorry for asking but how old are you to be watching dragon ball? Anyway I dont think lego would approve of this as they are not into anime like this. The only anime they did was Avatar and that was propably only because it was created by a fellow american unlike dragon ball and that Avatar was awarded best Tv series But good idea! Quote
lumiosa Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 eheh, I'm thirty something , and first watched the anime some 15 odd years ago, when it first showed here in Portugal. The reruns have been airing ever since. Yes, I know LEGO is not really into this kind of theme, but what with the live action movie due this year, heck, why not? It would make for some very nice minifigs, methinks... Quote
Skinny Boy Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Great MOC lumiosa! I watched a bit of Dragon Ball (Z?) a few years ago, and though I don't remember much of it, I definitely remember that green dude Are you planning on making any other scenes from it? And your stickers look very good, very TLC-esque! Quote
eti Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 The question 'how old are you to watch that' strikes me as odd... after all, how old are we all to play with Lego? I could imagine Lego doing licensed sets on this kind of shows unless it's extremely bloody and violent (don't know this series - I'm not into anime...) but it would have to be current and popular. Since they are making a live action film, it could be possible. But I think Lego shouldn't and wouldn't redo an idea they already used for a HP duel... it would have to be something new. Your background looks cool, though (even I don't like drawn on bricks much) Quote

To be correct, Avatar ISN'T an anime, it is an American cartoon drawn in an anime-like style. Although you are right when you say that Lego did only one anime, and that was Speed Racer, Speed Racer is a movie adapted from an anime of the same name (the anime was from the 70s). Quote

LEGO is a Dutch company, not American. Thats a nice MOC, I read the manga myself and that looks perfect. Good work with the decals. =D Quote

Anyway they did not make a lot of money with the avatar products so I think they are stopping for a while on Ainime lego. Quote
Mr Spielbrick Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 LEGO is a Dutch company, not American. Close, but no cigar. LEGO isn't Dutch, but Danish. If it were Dutch, it would be the pride of my nation! Well, along with Philips electronica and actor Rutger Hauer. On topic: cool MOC! Fabulous figs, too. I wonder... do you have a white turban, perhaps? I'm curious how your Piccolo would look with one. Quote

Anyway they did not make a lot of money with the avatar products so I think they are stopping for a while on Ainime lego. As Tin7 said, Avatar isn't Anime, it's an American Cartoon that combines elements of Western Animation and Eastern Animation. Actually, they've done two Anime lines, Exo-force and Speed Racer. Anyway, i like the idea of a dueling system but since TLC have already made this as part of the HP sets, they probably won't use it again. However, you're good with custom figures! Quote
lumiosa Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 Thanks for the kind words everyone. I wonder... do you have a white turban, perhaps? I'm curious how your Piccolo would look with one. Unfortunately, no. I spent some time thinking about what I could use for Piccollo, but couldn't come up with anything remotely interesting, so he just went bare headed... By the way, the results just came up and I won this item of the contest. Now I'll try to make some other characters from the show, and also some structures/vehicles. Will keep you informed... Quote
