So, I just got hooked on the 2003 revived series of Battlestar Galactica, and I have to say I love it. Unlike most Sci-Fi shows that are neat and tidy with fancy technology, this one is nitty and gritty with a lost of technology we use today. Instead of revolving around the tech, is revolves around the drama and emotions between the people. All around a great show.

I can't believe it took until there's only 8 episodes left for someone to make a topic about it! Have you caught up yet?

No, I am not Season 1.

Darn. Well you'd better catch up fast!

Personally, my favorite season is the third, for various undisclosed reasons [although I think you won't be spoilered if I say there's two very well done two-parters].

Indeed, it is the best Sci Fi show i've seen, right on top along with Farscape.

But right now, my favourite season is the second one, because it keeps a good pace for the whole season and has a story arc that ties its episode much tighter than in season 1. Whereas while season 3 has indeed the best two parters of the serie, I find its second half to drag on a bit too much...

Can't wait to see how it'll end.

For my money the best episode of the series is still the very first episode titled 33. Tense, action-packed. Every episode since has been an measured against that for me. Hopefully we get back to something like that for the end.

Well that episode was simply the greatest episode ever of anything.

The people of the fleet shure like shanking people, Gaeta on Baltar, Gaeta on Sweet Eight, Romo on Marine #2 eh?

Anyone else think Daniel is going to be the Cylon God?

How would that work, though, since the old-school Centurions were monotheistic before Daniel got [almost] created, and he would've been just another Cylon model had Cavil not intervened. I think the Cylon God might be Baltar. But, I also thought he was the final Cylon and that he'd actually be playing a role in the last 10 episodes [when was the last time the Opera House was mentioned, exactly? and how are he and Head Six the parents of God's new generation of children when Head Six is in Baltar's head and he's off faffing around with his groupies?].

I'm not sure if he was the original Cylon God, as in the idea that the Centurions had. But I'm thinking he somehow took on that role after Cavil killed him.

Maybe I'm just coming out of left field with this one...

What, sort of like a Cylon Messiah? Maybe if one survived [baltar], that one would take on the Cylon God's role. And he is preaching the one Cylon god to his groupies.

Also, what is the deal with the Opera House, and how is that going to be resolved considering Baltar's been virtually MIA except for the mutiny, Head Six's vanished since around Season 3, and Hera's barely a plot point anymore? I saw Baltar and his groupies getting armed in a trailer for this week's episode, hopefully that'll help explain.

I just finished season 3, and the season finale was probably one of my most favorite episodes. I did not expect four of the Cylons to be revealed so early, only one or two. Can't wait to see the rest of it, but I am sad it is ending.

Well, it's down to 2 episodes. I like the show, but I honestly think parts of the last 2 or 3 could have been trimmed down. The revolt seemed to be moving things in the right by permanently wrapping up some storylines and eliminating characters. Now, the ship's been falling apart for 2 or 3 episodes now. Cavel's plan is moving at the speed of a glacier. Starbuck is still trying to find out what exactly happened to her, however it was nice seeing her turn to Baltar to see what he could come up with. I am guessing by the previews that they are intending to use the Galactica on a suicide mission (that will likely have a huge body count, perhaps it will be total) against Cavel. I'm personally hoping for a massive whirlwind of death that kills about everybody on both sides (and I honestly expect that at this point). Eliminates the possibilities for a sequel of likely questionable quality somewhere down the road. It helps show that war really sucks, even more than they have shown so far. And most of all it will likely mean the characters I don't care for will buy the farm and the others can die some heroic death while the Cylons get to taste the bitterness of mortality. Or, the main characters go on the suicide mission and ram the Galactica (with nukes primed to detonate, no doubt) into whatever Cavel has.

Islanded in a Stream of Stars dragged, you say? Well Daybreak part 1 was just embarrassingly dragging. I hope those flashbacks are resolved quickly next part - all we learned was the start of the mission, Racetrack's back [yay!!] and Gaius's running away from his father.

I did not watch last week, but I will watch all three tonight. I am sad that it is ending.

Edit: Well, a great end to a great ride. I LOVED the series finale. They did a great job with the flashbacks tying in the whole show. The first half was simply epic, and the second half was very surprising. While I wish it wasn't ending, the two hour movie "The Plan" looks great, as well as the new series "Caprica", which we got a sneak peak at.

No one's talking about the BSG finale?

It was great. Well, maybe a little long on some of the flashbacks but the battles were fantastic and it ended with what I would call "real" science-fiction.

The new series should be a little more action-oriented and less metaphysical (I hope).

I much prefer the metaphysical to action. TV just doesn't do it for me, if there isn't some mystical/sci-fi element to it.

The only things I didn't like about the finale:

1. Cavil committing suicide. That just didn't seem right. He should have gone out fighting, rather than a couple second frame of 'frak,' bang!

2. The whole Baltar cult seemed like a wasted subplot that didn't do anything

3. I wanted to see/learn more of Daniel...

I took this as him accepting that it was going to end in either capture or death and he didn't want to give the humans the satisfction of either. Or he realised all hope of resurrection was gone for good so there was no point to keep going.

2. The whole Baltar cult seemed like a wasted subplot that didn't do anything

I kind of agree. The only thing I can figure was that it was to help move the plot towards the idea of one god and the angels and what not. And to help make Baltar's decision seem more selfless knowing that he was possibly turning down a position of real power amongst the survivors in favor of what was thought to be a suicide mission.

3. I wanted to see/learn more of Daniel...

Here's hoping.

That was kind of annoying wasn't it. Introduce the idea of this "failed" model, give it deep significance and then just ignore it.

Well that was actually Dean Stockwell's idea - originally Tigh would throw him off the balcony, but Dean phoned the writer up and said something along the lines of 'Cavil knows the jig is up'.

Moore: Cavil killing himself came from Dean Stockwell, to be honest. As scripted, in that climactic battle in CIC, Tigh was going to grab Cavil and fling him over the edge of the upper level, and he was going to fall to his death. Dean called me himself and said, "I just really think that in that moment, Cavil would realize the jig is up and it's all hopeless and just put a gun in his mouth and shoot himself." And I just said, "Okay."

About the finale as a whole -

I loved it up until the last five minutes. The action was great [Cylon on Cylon, if only the old ones did some trash-talkin'], I liked Racetrack returning [then becoming the most destructive single character in the show], most of the flashbacks seemed to make sense to me [Adama's could have definitely been compressed, though, and Laura only seemed to get one because she had second billing], and Laura dying was really sad. While I didn't expect a happy ending, I liked it.

Then we jump into the future for a cheap cameo and a montage of goofy robots. I doubt that's how the Cylons came to be.

Well I guess its hard to argue with the actor, but I think Cavil would have gone out fighting. Or at least there needed to be a bit more build up for his suicide. It just came out of the blue, without much reason behind it. There's no reason to think that if it had come down to a fight, that he'd have lost.
