SirNadroj Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Hmmm... this has to be my first topic in this subforum. Wierd! Where do I begin? Some of you may have seen one of my pics on flickr, inquiring on NXT sound capabilities (I got my answer). I mentioned briefly plans on building a 1:1 scale humanoid audio animatronic using only official LEGO elements, and have to basis of the movements created using NXT technologies. Obviously the movements are going to be very, very simple. I've got tons and tons of inspiration for this project; most notably the Timekeeper figure from (Disney) Tomorrowland's "The Timekeeper" attraction, and (my favorite) S.I.R. - the robot from the original preshow of (Disney) Tomorrowland's Alien Encounter - (now "Stitch's Great Escape). So I plan on having those as a basis of the design. (here are some links in case you want to check them out: )I want to start with the head, and if that comes out well, I'll move on to a body - probably one moving arm and one stationary one. But I really haven't thought about that much yet. I've got the designs for the mechanisms all in my head. Here are some WIP shots: And a test video: Thanks! Quote
MrCustomizer Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 WOW. I have played around with the NXT (I used to do First Lego League) and I went and saw the Stitch's Great Escape earlier this year. Your Audio-Animatronic guy is really cool! Now if only I could dig up some money to actually buy the NXT.. Quote
Asuka Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 A very creative and clever work, very well done... hmm, although the color´s wrong, something on that head reminds me a lot of Homer Simpson... can that thing eat doughnuts too? Quote
Brickthing Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Cool, the head is looking good! Are you going to make the mouth or eyes move? Also, if the eyes aren't going to move, I think it could look better if you have the car wheel rims on the top of the eyes, so that they look like eyebrows. Quote
SirNadroj Posted February 4, 2009 Author Posted February 4, 2009 Thanks for the feedback, guys. Here's some progress: Quote
Erdbeereis Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 That's looking amazing SirNadroj. Very sleek yet still captures the robotic charm. I greatly look forward to seeing the end result. Quote
CP5670 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Great concept. The size is quite impressive. Are you planning to animate the arms? Quote
SirNadroj Posted February 7, 2009 Author Posted February 7, 2009 Thanks guys! Are you planning to animate the arms? If I can get some pneumatic parts; I'm well on my way to getting my paws on some, so it's likely they will be animated (only the elbow joint would move the arms up and down). Quote
Trexxen Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Wow, this is amazing! If you manage to get the entire thing to animate...well, I'd put something here, but "words cannot describe" is both true and cliche...=P Anywho, I know you're making it for function over form, but if you can make it look like the Technologic robot, I'll be amazed. Here's a link for reference: ~Trexxen Quote
