Erdbeereis Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I think that the Power Miners boxes look excellent, and really stand out on the shelf. But there are many others that I like, such as the new Medieval Market Village. Nice idea for a topic! Quote
Matteo Kenobi Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I do like the Medieval Market Village box, very cool! However the Clone Wars boxes look very sleek (but I still can't wait until the summer sets where the boxes change to red) But I have to say I love the Star Wars Anniversary Box (i.e Vader's Tie) It's very retro but still sleek, haha I love it Quote
CP5670 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 My favorite box style is the old 90s Technic one, with the old logo and the blueprints in the background. The current Technic design is nice too, although the internal packaging sucks. The Star Wars UCS models also have great box pictures. If you consider the packaging as well, some specific great boxes from the past that come to mind are: 6990 Monorail Transport System (multi-layered featured parts tray and minifigs prominently set up in the middle) 6392 Airport (parts tray had the plane pieces laid out in the shape of the plane) 8094 Control Center (electronic schematic in background art, styrofoam section to hold the control center, big parts tray) 8448 Super Street Sensation (7 or 8 sub-boxes of various sizes arranged to fit in like a puzzle, and the wheels arranged along the side) Quote
Derek Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I think the Clone Wars boxes are probably the best at the moment. They just look so clean and shiny and make me want to buy every set on the shelf. Second, I think the Power Miners packaging really stands out. The lime green and orange just pop out at you. Quote
Bricks Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I made a little ranking : 1. Power Miners 2. Pirates 3. Castle 4. Star Wars: 30th Anniversary 5. Agents Greetings 'Bricks' Quote
Norro Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 The classic yellow is hard to beat... Then, of course, there is the reissued Guarded Inn (what were they thinking?) Of the relatively modern themes the orient expedition sets spring to mind... God Bless, Nathan Quote
Deepwoods Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 The Viking Chess set had a pretty cool box! :-) Quote
Fluyt Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I like the legoland boxes, also most classic-pirate boxes, especially 1788 - treasure chest, but that is mainly for the special box shape (unfortunatly I don't have the box from mine anymore ). Most or all legoland boxes actually showed what the set was like, unlike most modern boxes with all kinds of photoshop usage. Quote
mrchris Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 1788 is about the only box i kept from the old days the rest i cut the front off of and just kept that. I remember the treasure chest shape did help me pick it. I still like the old style boxes that had a flap and opened to display all the rare bricks, but its not as important these days because of all the info on the net. I also prefered the old thinner boxes with the tray inside, as it gives a perfect place to tip the bricks out into and makes the boxes to keep take up less room. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I like the Agents boxes, maybe its the spy thriller style set up or the mission document case silver of the border, but I think they look great. Quote
donneyboy Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Well, I have a few, number one being The Clone Wars, it is so shiny, and smooth that when I saw them at Wal-Mart, i went up and kissed them. And number two is The Power Miners boxes, why, because the lime green is different from the other colors like black, blue, and white. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 that when I saw them at Wal-Mart, i went up and kissed them. That's a bit too much information... I agree though, the Clone Wars boxes look very nice. Quote
fenrir Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 The Viking Chess set had a pretty cool box! :-) I agree! Quote
mania3 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Yeah, I'll certainly agree with the Clone Wars boxes looking good. I don't even collect the Star Wars sets at all but the packaging alone makes the Clone Wars series pretty appealing, from an aesthetic standpoint. Quote
donneyboy Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 That's a bit too much information... I agree though, the Clone Wars boxes look very nice. I know, but it was the new Clone Walker Battlepack, and I bought it. I also did that with the Republic Gunship, but I left it there. Quote
bamaker Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I guess I'm in the minority. I'm a Star Wars fan but I don't find the Clone Wars boxes all that appealing. I don't like the blue/white theme of the boxes, especially when they're all placed together in the stores -- the white boxes give the appearance of empty space on the shelves and the blue does not capture the consumer's eye. There's just Star Wars images floating on empty shelves. For best overall box theme, I'd go with the Castle line. Having never been a fan of the classic castle sets, it was the box for Skeleton Tower that finally got me to purchase a set, and I've really enjoyed all the new Castle boxes. But for best individual box, I really like the box for 8637 Volcano Base from the Agents line. Vibrant reds & oranges, against dark brown with a dash of lime green, all framed by the metallic "Agents" header make for an appealing box (plus I really like this set). Quote
Dr. Brick Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I LOVE the LEGO Direct boxes, like the Town Plan or the Green Grocer. They are huge, as a LEGO box should be! Dr. Brick Quote
Algernon Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Now, now- have we forgotten the older themes, that had some of the coolest box art ever? Quote
Norro Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Now, now- have we forgotten the older themes, that had some of the coolest box art ever? True... it was only the sets that let Mars Mission down although the one pictured was a highlight. God Bless, Nathan Quote
CP5670 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I like the earlier space boxes better, with that grid pattern in the background. Every theme had its own color for the grid. Quote
Algernon Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I like the earlier space boxes better, with that grid pattern in the background. Every theme had its own color for the grid. Meh... that got boring quickly. I always thought the Life on Mars boxes were beyond cool. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Historic? I'd have to say I really liked the Adventurers boxes and the Alpha Team boxes. Quote
Dennimator Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I know, but it was the new Clone Walker Battlepack, and I bought it. I also did that with the Republic Gunship, but I left it there. Ewwww! If I ever come to your walmart, I´ll never buy a republic gunship...unless it´s on sale. I´ll wear gloves, though. My favourite box-art is also the CW ones, though. They´re so smooth and clean and... However I won´t ever go as far as donneyboy. Quote
darkrebellion Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Well I must say that the overall best boxes in my opinion are the SW ones . Almost every SW box is great but here is my favorites in order: 1- 10th Anniversary Box - This new box design is the best one I have ever seen. I think the TLC just get this ones perfect. Awesome retro look and also adds the clever shiny of the boxes. Simple awesome . 2- 30th Years of SW box - This is another awesome box design . The look of the SW title is just perfect and the whole box is beautifully designed. 3- Original box (That one with the OT minifigs logo ) - This one just looks perfect and also is a perfect start for the SW theme. 4- CW box - The shiny boxes really capture the look of thousands of kids... and AFOLs . So far this are my favorite boxes including the PM ones that are also great. Quote
