WetWired Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 (edited) I'm not sure if this is in the correct section, so please move if it's not. Anyway I thought I'd share an MOC I abandoned, I gave up on him for now because I can't get his head looking good at such a small scale, and it kind of brings down the whole thing the way it is now. My plan is to wait another year or so when I have more lego pieces and attempt him again at a larger scale, that way I will have more freedom to make his head look better. Anyway here it is, Classic 1980s Cartoon Transformers Starscream I've pulled him apart already I'm using the basic skeletal structure for an upcoming original MOC (not based on any character or TV\Movie) Anyway he's fully articulated at the hips, legs, knees, feet, head, arms elbows, hands and fingers. And can be positioned and stood in a variety of positions. And before you ask, no it doesn't transform, I'm not that insane :P His wings were pretty rough too and I was going to improve them but after hitting a wall with the head I didn't bother, look for it again in about a year...or two :D Edited January 17, 2009 by WetWired Quote
JINZONINGEN73 Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 More suited to ther Mecha forum... moving now... I gave up on him for now because I can't get his head looking good at such a small scale, and it kind of brings down the whole thing THAT. That right there. THAT'S where Lego mecha fail. You can make the most kickass Transformers body, but emulating 95% of their characteristic faces is IMPOSSIBLE. Until Lego makes like a super-small kind of brick, or some kind of system to create heads (by swapping plates with say different eye section, nose section, mouth section...) then Transformers mocs are always going to be "unfortunate". That said, I don't dig the knee or elbow joints, but it's a really good-looking moc! There is no mistaking who it is and you got some shapes crucial to his G1 look just right. Pretty impressive, given the smaller scale. Quote
Loganwan Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 How weak! No transforming? Just Kidding! It looks great. I was just watching the original pilot this afternoon and then I find this fine piece of MOC in Legos. Wonderful creation. Quote
optimus-convoy Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 That's quite a well done likeness, even if it is just a glorified action master. I kid, though I'd have to agree with Jinzo on the elbows and knees. Moreso the knees since they're more noticeable. Nonetheless, it's still a great crack at good ol' Screamer. I feel your pain with the whole face problem. I too had pipedreams of making a Transformer out of Lego. Optimus believe it or not. The best idea I got for heads was this. It kinda works with maskless TFs if you replace the mask with a few plates, and tilt one at a 45 degree angle for a nose, but still it's pretty slim pickings. Quote
Asuka Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Well, he looks very beefy but still pretty poseable... an interesting construction and very charming too! Quote
AgentRick Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Nice, but I feel the head and hands are a bit too big. Also nice Revoltech Screamer. Quote
Lorentzen Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 You did a great job with this Transformer - I was a huge fan when I was a kid, of both original Transformers and LEGO, so finding this MOC was a nice surprise :) I think you managed to create a great face out of "nothing" Quote
WetWired Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 yeah I know what you mean about the knees and elbows, that was the limit of my capabilities with the pieces I had. I've since ordered and received a heap more ball joints from bricklink, so my upcoming MOC will be more flexible and won't have that huge gap on the joints like starscream has. And yeah, the head is too big and crappy looking, hence while I abandoned it :) When I try him again I think I'll pretty much double the size, that way I can get better scale on the head and afford that extra detail. My upcoming MOC I hope will be better, using more ball joints and since it's an original design I can use some of the limitations of the lego as part of the character and charm...That's the plan anyway :/ Quote
Razzer Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Wow that is a great MOC and I love the way you've done the fingers, genius. When you make him bigger will you consider making him transform? Quote
Guss Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I love the last picture^^ that's a really good moc! Quote
