Oky Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the newest, coolest Lego theme: Air Pirates! This is a steampunkish, post-apocalyptic, Crimson Skies type of theme. In a distant future where there is not a lot of high technology around anymore, air travel has become the most popular type of transportation. But this world isn't safe, for air pirates rule the skies! The Iron Eagle This is Captain Ironclaw's Airship, the Iron Eagle! With his wench and crew of three loyal air pirates, the cyborg captain travels through the skies and plunders any airship or plane that passes their way! All the propellers are connected with each other. There is a mechanism going from the wheels through the entire body of the ship up to the balloon. So, if you push the airship over the floor, the propellers will turn! The rudder can be turned to the sides, and the propeller inside of it will work in any position! The anchor can be lower and raised by turning the cross, and the side railing can be opened to let down a rope ladder! The front wall of the cabin can be easily removed to reveal the interior! Here you can see the brave crew! As the subtitle of this topic says, this is my entry for the large division of VBBN's Lego Themes contest on Brick Horizon. You can cast your vote for it here. Please also check out my entry for the small division. Comments are highly welcome! Quote
rriggs Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 (edited) I really like this! It gives a nice twist on the regular pirate MOCs we see. The design is believable yet still in keeping with pirate look and feel. The anchor is a particularly nice touch. Only criticisms I have are very small - How are the propellors actually controlled by the pirates? Is there animal or human power there somewhere... A couple of native slaves or alien creatures tucked in below somewhere could be a nice detail! Or a funky powerplant on board would be cool to see either. Only other thought is that the technic universal joint would be nicer tucked away below deck. I don't know if changing any of your axles would allow this to be hidden? Great model overall though! Nice one! Cheers Rog Edited January 7, 2009 by rriggs Quote
user Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Wow! This is close to how I made my space pirate vehicles and I see you made prof. Gizmo as the pilot! I like the captain alot but is that captain brickbeard fro the future? I like the ship a whole bunch very creative build and I am glad you did not just put the old zepplin peice from the adventurers set! ~Computerbug P.S (off topic) I see you have capt. brickbeard but if you have gold tooth that hook would look great on him!
