WOW!! Not a fan of the "mega" figs, but if these designs translate into minifigs :o The insignia are believable, the helms are closer to historic and the colours are not easily mistaken for those of the rainbow. I look forward to this new line!

Ok, after reading some posts requesting to call these "KK3" I thought I'd share my opinion on the matter:

So the last old grey castle-line was "Knights Kingdom" that got us the fight between King Richard and Cedric the bull. People complained, mourned and argued about it being the ultimate downfall of all things castle. Its big castle was released in 2000 as sets 6091(us) and 6098...the line then ended.

Not later than 2004 TLC released it's new grey/bley castle-line called "Knight's Kingdom" that would introduce fantasy blades, rainbow knights and a shallow good vs. evil plot pattern. For the sake of easiness it was deemed "KK2" to set it apart from the last "Knights Kingdom"-line.

So far we had two line-ups of releases in this line (2004, 2005) and it always kept its name "KK2".

With these new big figs on the horizon people meddle about it being "KK3". Why?

The story about the colour knights contre "Monsieur Vladek le sombre" isn't at an end yet, so it still stays "KK2" since it is not an entirely new line that would need a rechristening of any kind.

To set the different releases apart I always used interpunction to provide a numerical index, as in:

2004: KK2.1

2005: KK2.2

2006: KK2.3

So to those people meddling and all: this is still "KK2" even though it may have taken a turn in a new direction (a turn for the better! there is even chainmail on the big-figs!).

And remember the name "KK2" is entirely a community product I reckon so if you'd like to be ultra-accurate please feel free to call it "2006 releases of the Knight's Kingdom-line".

I am going to take a guess at this bu by judging from the pictures this years KK2 is a little different than past years. A little while back the summary from the scholastic book was released and it mentioned King Jayko and his new knights. Though I seem to remember something about how he only had two knights. Yet there are four knights. So sit back and enjoy my thoughts if you will.

After the defeat of vladek at his castle, his power is weakened and no longer can he control the shadow knights as he once did. Jayko has taken the place of the elderly king Mathias and the older knights have returned to their homelands. Yet Vladek has indeed escaped and is plotting anew! Like Jayko before them, new knights are entered into the service of the code and their king. Two of them to be exact. One hails from the nearby land (insert dorky name) with the unicorn as his standard. The other is from the land of (insert some other dorky name) with the bull as his standard. Yet, Vladek the evil and former almost king of Morcia will not be undone. He goes out and gains two knights of his own, one with a dragon and one with a serpent as their standard. It is a battle royal of the two powerful leaders and their knights which ends in, you guessed it, the defeat of Vladek and his knights.

At some point this whole story will have to end. My hope is that in 2007 KK2 will end in the biggest and most powerful storyline yet. Malakee the former magical king comes back and reveals himself as the sorceror that has been using Vladek to try and defeat the powers in charge of Morcia. Vladek has failed three times and now it is time to show the true power Malakee has. He brings out the rouge knights, the gargoyles, the monsters, and Vladek his general to final overturn Morcia. Yet, Jayko and his knights along with all the older knights are ready to face the challange and after assembling the armor of ages (which is the shield, sword, helm, and plate armor) Jayko puts it all on ane has a one on one duel with the sorceror. After a tough battle Jayko wins out with help from Vladek who (just like Darth Vader) is really good inside he turns on his master and helps Jayko put in the finishing blow with the book of Morcia (which the sorceror helped make so powerful). Jayko then becomes the new guardian and uses his power to usher in a new rain of peace in Morcia. Knights save the day and the code is maintained.

My hope is that LEGO doesn't drag this out like the bionicle series with no new direction and just a repeat of the previous year with different colors.

What do you think?

Does anyone think Sir Adric (the bull guy) sounds remarkably similar to Cedric (the bull guy from KK1)?

Coincidence? A cross over story line? Or is Lego just getting clever/lazy with the names?

clever/lazy is nothing new... just look at the shield designs over the years, some are exact reprints in different colours.

Few things:

Bionicle is orginal and different each year. Maybe only fans see this.

KK2 isn't like Bionicle in any way.

KK2 won't go on for that long.

The plots are different each year, and anyways, you can make your own up.

1)I'll take your word for it :) . To an outsider it seems like a similar number of similarly named, similarly coloured, 'Toa's ,(granted with new weapons), fighting another 'evil' more scary than the last (though possibly smaller ;))to defend the same island.... Just me...

2)KK2 is lke Bionicle in that 'heroes' take on 'evil' in a fictional world with very little back story and large non-systemish parts.

3)One can only hope...

4)I'm not sure whether this refers to Bionicle or KK2... ;)

God Bless (and no offence meant)

Personally, I don't care for the larger KKII figures, and these are no exception. They are not particularly useful for me, and that will not change with this new batch. That being said, these guys have me VERY excited! In fact, I haven't been this excited by anything castle related in over a decade!!

These guys are a marked improvement over their KKII predecessors.

1) Improved colour selection. Unlike our current heroes, these Knights have foresaken the rainbow coloured helmets of the past two years for something more conventional. The colourful torsoes play well against the armoured bodies of the figures. No more purple or baby blue visors here!

2) Improved design. The previous knights suffered greatly due to the odd design choices made by LEGO designers. Space swords and helmets simply seemed out of place with the medieval theme, making the line feel decidedly futuristic. This current batch of knights can be seen in more conventional armour, far more suited to the era. In fact, Sir Adric's helmet could easily pass itself off as a great helm, something castle fans have been clamouring for over the past decade. Karzon's helmet could also be used as a sort of great helm. Unlike the futuristic designs of years 1 & 2, year 3 actually seems to include more conventional elements. Hopefully these will make the transition to minifig form.

3) Improved heraldry. Finally, no more monkey or scorpion shields. Although the animal theme seems to be a bit redundant, I much prefer the horse, dragon, bull and snake to the odd animal choices from years 1 & 2. The scorpion, and monkey just felt out of place. Not the case with these new shields.

4) Evenly matched forces. It looks like two of the new knights are villians. This is a refeshing change from previous years where all of our knights were heroes, going after the lone villian Vladek. Overall, things are looking up.

Hopefully, the set designs will match the figures. This looks like it could be a good year.

Later.

Did anybody notice that some of new knights hold their swords in right hand? Before that all knights were left-handed only.
