Dragonator Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 I hate you Dragonator. Well, I hate not solving things first. And how were we ever going to find an 8 letter word if we were looking for a seven letter word, jerk! Anyway that really threw off the way I usually solve these puzzles, although I won't say any more to not give you any more evil ideas. I repeat: jerk. Yeah yeah, love you too Hinck. Just to clarify though, it should not matter where the spaces are in solving this type of code as long as the letters are in the right order. I'll explain the whole thing at the end if you like. No hard feelings, all will be revealed eventually. Now please lower your fist... Anyway, we're clearly in the right place. James 1 Chapter 19. What does verse 4 say? *Ahem* Jonathan praised David to Saul and said, "Sir, don't do wrong to your servant David. He has never done you any wrong; on the contrary, everything he has done has been a great help to you.
Hinckley Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Who wants to try the word "Saul" in the safe? Anybody? And I don't punch, Dragonator, I take down... Actually, I totally got what you did, I just realize my puzzle hobbies are mundane to how difficult they can actually be...
Sandy Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I think we shouldn't forget the month of 1940, September. So that gives us three numbers to try around: 9, 1940 and 318. I'd like to know what's the 9th and the 1940th word in page 318 of the Bible?
Hinckley Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I think we shouldn't forget the month of 1940, September. So that gives us three numbers to try around: 9, 1940 and 318. I'd like to know what's the 9th and the 1940th word in page 318 of the Bible? Well, the ninth book of the bible is on page 318, and it happens to be chapter 19. I think we're pretty close... I think we should also read Chapter 18 verse 30... Since we're so keen on using all of our digits...
Dragonator Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Perhaps I should have set this in a church... Amen! I mean... *Ahem* The Philistine armies would come and fight, but in every battle David was more successful than any of Saul's other officers. As a result David became very famous.
Corvus Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Perhaps we should flip through the whole thing, and look for notes or something scribbled inside?
Shadows Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Saul. I'd be willing to blow another combination attempt on it and we're just spinning our wheels otherwise. Seriously, let's not overthink this. Funny that seal and Saul are similar though... Overthinking again. Let's go try Saul.
Sir Dillon Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I don't know if using Saul is such a good idea. It seems too vague to me. As it is though, we aren't getting anything done, so I suppose we might as well.
Hinckley Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Perhaps we should flip through the whole thing, and look for notes or something scribbled inside? Yes, great idea. Let's just sit here and thumb through the whole Bible. Someone already tried that anyway and Dragonator was too lazy to read us the whole thing or compile a list of four letter-words that appear in the text. Saul. I'd be willing to blow another combination attempt on it and we're just spinning our wheels otherwise. Seriously, let's not overthink this.Funny that seal and Saul are similar though... Overthinking again. Let's go try Saul. Yes, his name appears in both verses we've looked at. Perhaps it's the best guess right now. We have three more chances. What does everyone else think?
Hinckley Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 "The bible contains what you seek"! After all that work, he's just trying to convert our souls.
Dragonator Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 Well, Saul could be it, I mean we must be close to the answer to this riddle. So close, yet so hard to grasp... Anyway, Saul is it? The group wander back to the safe for the third time and try typing in the word "Saul". A loud beep is heard and a third red light appears on the display screen. Oh this is getting ridiculous! The group go back to the library, wondering if the bible would ever give up it's hidden message...

Shadows Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Hey jerk! We didn't decide yet. YEAH! 2 for and 1 against is hardly a decision made in a group this size! Geez. Now you owe us one.
Hinckley Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 YEAH! 2 for and 1 against is hardly a decision made in a group this size! Geez. Now you owe us one. Seriously, I want my money back and a bunch of new LEGO Farm sets!
Dragonator Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 Well since you three are the only ones really paying any attention, I thought it was a done decision... Why are you both so mad, you were the two that said you wanted to try it!! Oh, and Michael did sort of agree there at the end, so you could say three for and none against... I'm just going to go hide in that corner over there... A few moments pass. Ahem, anyway, I'm sure you won't be needing that extra chance. Cookie anyone?
Hinckley Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Ahem, anyway, I'm sure you won't be needing that extra chance. Cookie anyone? Two cookies!
Shadows Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Two cookies! EACH! And we get crackers! Yeah, crackers! Good ones! Oh god, it's them again. Perhaps you'd also have a nice bottle of whiskey for my nerves? Ah, whiskey. I used to know this particularly annoying chap named Pedro who could supply you with the most delightful whiskey. A bit of a shady fellow, actually, but who cares? I wonder what's he up to these days...
Sandy Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Great going with the password, guys... We might just as well try the word "word" on the panel. It has four letters, right? Perhaps we should flip through the whole thing, and look for notes or something scribbled inside? I say we rip the covers of the Bible open to see if there's anything hidden inside them! I'm not a very religious girl, no...
Dragonator Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 We might just as well try the word "word" on the panel. It has four letters, right? Should I take that as a group-made decision or should I wait?
Hinckley Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Great going with the password, guys... We might just as well try the word "word" on the panel. It has four letters, right? Someone just wore out their hero's welcome. Well, Ms. Brain, what's the password then? Think you're so smart with your girl brain... Anyway, we're clearly in the right place. James 1 Chapter 19. What does verse 4 say? I meant 1st Samuel. Nuts to this, I'll read the bible myself...
Dragonator Posted January 12, 2009 Author Posted January 12, 2009 I meant 1st Samuel. Nuts to this, I'll read the bible myself... Yes, I did pick up on that. It would be worth noting at this point that not all editions of the bible read the same word for word... Well, I was saving this for later, but since you're all having such a stressful time solving this single clue, we may as well have it now. Dragonator pulls out a bottle of Talisker single malt Scotch whiskey, aged 18 years. Nothing better than fine Scottish whiskey to help the mind work, aye?
Shadows Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 a cartoon illustration of a Sea Lion sitting on a rock in the sea. It is waving a Nazi flag in one hand, and is holding a musket in the other. Underneath the drawing is written the number 318. The only other thing on the sheet is a cross inked into the bottom left corner. Oh good grief. The pictogram points at the bible, the anagram points at the bible. *points at the bible* I'm pointing at the bible. I still don't know how sea lion, flag/nazi and musket fit, but 318 is probably chapter and verse. I assume the rest is somehow indicating the book in a really obtuse and annoying as hell way. Maybe the letters of the clues unscramble somehow. Now give me that damn bottle before the voices start again! He's starting to make sense! Aaaaaah, too late!

Well, what's the 19th book of the bible then? Isn't it odd that pg. 318 brought us to chapter 19 of something. We know it's all about 09-1940 and 318 and this stupid bible... stupid bible

What's the fortieth word in the chapter?
Sir Dillon Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 What kind of bible is it? As in its age, translation, etc.
