Sandy Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Tei lcnan wayuekh bbeo tish tose. Oh, well done Peter! It's amazing that there was some prints on the paper! Someone has been scribbling more cryptograms, but somehow this doesn't strike me as the usual kind...
WhiteFang Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Well done! But, what kind of puzzle is this? I can't figure this out though.
Sandy Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Well done! But, what kind of puzzle is this? I can't figure this out though. Me neither. The oddest part of the cryptogram is the word "bbeo" - which English word starts with two of the same letter? This alone makes me think that the cryptogram isn't an ordinary one. Maybe the words are backwards, in which case "bbeo" could be something like "free or "tree". There is also only one three letter word, "tei", which could mean "but" or "put" or "the" etc. Gah, my mind's exploding!
Hinckley Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Can't who ever this is just write in normal sentences?? Sheesh. Let's re-arrange the letters. Perhaps he's moved onto anagrams. Dragonator, how did you gain access to the mansion if Lord Chester is not around?
Dragonator Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Dragonator, how did you gain access to the mansion if Lord Chester is not around? Handy how the servants have keys, isn't it?
Sir Dillon Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 This new word thing is has me stumped. We could really have used Anthony's expertise here.
Dragonator Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 This new word thing is has me stumped. We could really have used Anthony's expertise here. Well why don't we see what he has to say on the matter? Dragonator walks over to the chandelier and crouches down. Anthony, I know your busy, but we would lik to know what you think of this little puzzle. ... Is that so? How very interesting. Standing up, Dragonator turns to the detectives. He wants to know what the rest of you think. Is he all right? Probably lost it, it happens sometimes so I understand. Right, well at least he's not hearing voices like that other chap.
Hinckley Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Is that so? How very interesting.Standing up, Dragonator turns to the detectives. He wants to know what the rest of you think. Er...OK. Ask him if it's an anagram. I had a dream that it was and it said "The cartoons have clues too." But that doesn't work IRL, unfortunately. Then I dreamed that there were naked pictures of me on the internet.
Dragonator Posted January 10, 2009 Author Posted January 10, 2009 Er...OK. Ask him if it's an anagram. I had a dream that it was and it said "The cartoons have clues too." But that doesn't work IRL, unfortunately. Then I dreamed that there were naked pictures of me on the internet. Thank you for sharing Max, I'll go ask. A few moments pass. He says sort of. He also mentioned something about a fence?
Shadows Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Why do I get the distinct feeling that we've been overrun by the mob and all of our players are being distracted elsewhere? A fence? I'm stumped here. I really am. Maybe we could search for the triggering device to the chandelier, assuming one exists. I'd like to check along all bookshelves for hidden switches or levers or buttons.
Dragonator Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Why do I get the distinct feeling that we've been overrun by the mob and all of our players are being distracted elsewhere? I really don't know why you would think that... While everyone else stands around in a blank daze, Peter walks around the room searching for a lever or switch of some kind. His efforts prove fruitless however, as he does not find anything. Are we ever going to solve this mystery? somebody cried. Will we ever find a flipping bathroom!? cried someone else.
Erdbeereis Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 This puzzle has me stumped... Does this game have a "phone a friend" option?
Dragonator Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 This puzzle has me stumped... Yes, it is quite tough, isn't it? Lord Chester must have over-estimated the problem-solving capabilities of anyone who decided to take a look at these things. That or he isn't very good at making comprehensive clues... Right, I have been discussing with Anthony, and together we have come to the conclusion that this particular code must revolve around letter re-arranging. Perhaps that will help us...
Hinckley Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Right, I have been discussing with Anthony, and together we have come to the conclusion that this particular code must revolve around letter re-arranging. Perhaps that will help us... It's an anagram, like I said! But it's a real headscratcher. Perhaps I've married myself to the first word being the and I should move on and start over...
Sir Dillon Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Perhaps it's an anagram as well as whatever the last word clues were? (the name escapes me.)
Sandy Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Perhaps it's an anagram as well as whatever the last word clues were? (the name escapes me.) You mean an anagram as well as a cryptogram?! That would be impossible to solve, quite frankly... I've tried to rearrange the letters in a million type of words, too. So far, the only sensible words that could lead to the solving of the clue I've gotten from the bunch are "south", "back", "away" and "Liechestein". But I figure the words should fit the ones in the clue, so Liechestein is out of the question... Also, there are too many letters for any online anagram generator to be of use... Just saying...
Hinckley Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Also, there are too many letters for any online anagram generator to be of use... Just saying... I noticed that as well... The puzzle can't make the words "back" and "away" at the same time. I assume the anagram is at least giving us the order of the numbered words. So we are loooking for a six-word sentence. That would fill this "hangman" setup. "( _ _ _ ) ( _ _ _ _ _ ) ( _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ) ( _ _ _ _ ) ( _ _ _ _ ) ( _ _ _ _ )" with these letters: a a b b c e e e e h h i i k l n n o o s s t t T u w y I would like to check with the dead body of the detective if I'm on the right track. One promising lead could be: "The house ( _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ) ( _ _ _ _ ) ( _ _ _ _ ) ( _ _ _ _ ) " a a b b c e e i i k l n n o s t t w y I'm having trouble coming up with a seven letter word that would follow that though. The word "because" could fit... Or... "The south balcony ( _ _ _ _ ) ( _ _ _ _ ) ( _ _ _ _ )" a b e e e i i k n s t w "The south balcony wiki been east?" Out of the words that are left, the only words that could be helpful are west, east, wait or take-but they don't leave letters that form a sentence. Perhaps I have the first half wrong. A little help? Is there a south balcony. Here are some seven-letter words we can get out of that jumble: chateau, annual, bathtub, absence, because, cabinet, setback, beneath, enables, blanket, bayonet, sealion Sealion? Hold on...
Hinckley Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 The wacky sealion bite bone hush! OK, I need to take a break...
Dragonator Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 This is almost more amusing than that Baritones thing on TV... The dead body says you are on the right track, but there is an easier way.
Hinckley Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 This is almost more amusing than that Baritones thing on TV...The dead body says you are on the right track, but there is an easier way. I'd to ask the dead body what the easier way is and is the word sealion part of the answer??
Sandy Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Oh my goodness! I think I got it! "The bible contains what you seek"! It all started with the word 'the' that you guys were sure it began with. I started to look where in the sentence "Tei lcnan wayuekh bbeo tish tose" there's an 'h', and I realized that the second letter was 'e', so I started to put letters in between each other, starting from the first 'h', and this was the result! Thus, I'd like to take a look at the bible, if there's one in the room.

If you're right, and I think you are I'm going to kill Dragonator because there's an extra letter!!!!!! Let's check page 1940 of the bible. And then 318. And then we'll go to page 1940 and see if it's chapter 3 v 18. And then we'll check all the books, c 3 v 18 or c 19 v 40 What's the 9th book of the Bible? It's 1 Samuel. Perhaps we should check 1st Samuel c 19 v 40...
Erdbeereis Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Fantastic Miss Sandy! I'm with Sinclair on what we should do next.
Dragonator Posted January 11, 2009 Author Posted January 11, 2009 Oh well done miss Sandy, very well done! If you're right, and I think you are I'm going to kill Dragonator because there's an extra letter!!!!!! What!? Why me? I don't see an extra letter, although two of the spaces are in the wrong spot. I think it would be a good idea to take another look at the bible. As you will recall, Peter did briefly look at page 318 earlier: ...Peter returns to the desk and pulls out the bible. The bible is the Good News Bible, 2002 edition. He flips to page 318. This page is in the 1st book of Samuel and shows verses 15 to the end of Chapter 18 (verse 30) and the first 8 verses of Chapter 19. You cannot see anything out of place. The group returns to the bible and opens it up to where Peter had it. Chapter 19 finishes on the next page, page 319. It only contains 24 verses. This bible only contains 1457 pages, so turning to page 1940 is out of the question.
Hinckley Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I hate you Dragonator. Well, I hate not solving things first. And how were we ever going to find an 8 letter word if we were looking for a seven letter word, jerk! Anyway that really threw off the way I usually solve these puzzles, although I won't say any more to not give you any more evil ideas. I repeat: jerk. Anyway, we're clearly in the right place. James 1 Chapter 19. What does verse 4 say?
