Brickthing Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Don't worry I was being sarcastic Oh OK There was a brief period around 2002 or 2003 when the upper age limit was 99. The box for my 8455 Backhoe says ages 11-99 on it. I remember that, but I thought it was rather discriminative against Centennial AFOLs. Quote
Pencoin Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I have no friends because oh my hobbies (Not just LEGO bricks, I also like Transformers, 'kiddie' games, stickfas and many others...) But I couldn't care less because I have Eurobricks. Unless you do have the 'wrong' mindset I would stick to LEGO bricks and don't worry. If you search hard enough I'm sure you find a friend near you who likes LEGO bricks as will. Growing-up isn't discarding childhood past times, it's excepting that you can do what you please and you don't have to be influcenced by others. Quote
CP5670 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I remember that, but I thought it was rather discriminative against Centennial AFOLs. I wonder if there are any out there. The oldest AFOL I've seen was an 80 year old woman at Brickfair last year, who had actually made some quite nice MOCs. Quote
isaacbrockthebuilder Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Hey, stop attacking me. I know what you guys are trying to say and thats your opion, in my opion most Adults (including me) who collect lego are nerds. I'm not saying everybody just alot of them, I don't know who you people really are, all i know abou you is that you like lego and some other stuff. Quote
Natman8000 Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Once again, people who waste their time judging you are the nerds. Y,now what? If you want, you can be the one nerd amongst 4000 non-nerds. Happy? Quote
JimBee Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 (edited) I don't know who you people really are, all i know abou you is that you like lego and some other stuff. Exactly, so stop making assumptions, and stop insulting. Sure, a lot of us like to geek out about the latest Lego sets, but that doesn't mean we're "uncool" or "nerds". And nobody is "attacking" you, if anyone's verbally attacking, it's you. With that kind of outlook, you won't make many friends here, so keep it to yourself, alright? Eilif Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I don't know if it is helpful, but it's best to know from the start that there will always be people, especially among those between the ages of 13 and 27, who will tell you how uncool or nerdy LEGO is. Nothing you can say will change their mind, so just know that it's going to happen. As has been mentioned, it might be a good idea to not spend all your cash on LEGO, but if you have the disposable income, there's alot worse things to spend it on than LEGO. Also, some folks like to specify that they don't "play" with LEGO, they "build" or "Design" or whatever. This may or may not be your point of view, but I "play" with LEGO, and admitting to this makes alot of interactions aboug LEGO easier. Another thing to do -if you are old enough- would be to join a LEGO club. It's a great way to learn more about the hobby, to help show the rest of the world what a legitimate hobby LEGO is, and to bring more people into the hobby. Quote
Dr. Brick Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 My fellow students also always thought my hobby was a bit weird. Till I showed them my MOC's. Now they're really impressed with LEGO, and they respect it. (some even give me their LEGO or ask me to help them selling their LEGO) In the summer I also work at LEGO camps, here I teacht smal kids stuf about LEGO and i help them build them their first MOC tha's three times as large as they are. I earn a nice amount of money (~>LEGO ) with that. When people heard I earned money thanks to playing with LEGO they never said it was immature anymore. The problem that you are facing is that a lot of people think that LEGO is just a toy. Show them that it is more than just a toy, show them it is art. Hope I could help and good luck! Dr. Brick Quote
